The ASICS HYPER SPEED 6 is a lightweight, neutral shoe aimed at faster training and racing, but RTINGS’ testing found a firm ride with limited energy return and cushioning. That makes it a more convincing option for shorter, quicker sessions than for runners seeking a soft, forgiving shoe for half- or full-marathon distances.
What kind of running shoe is the HYPER SPEED 6?
ASICS describes the HYPER SPEED 6 as “designed for quicker training and racing.” Its U.S. product listing classifies it as neutral, with regular cushioning and a 6 mm heel drop. Those are the manufacturer’s positioning and specifications, not a promise that the shoe will suit every runner or distance.
The design combines an engineered-mesh upper with FLYTEFOAM cushioning. ASICS says it added 2 mm of foam in the forefoot and 1 mm in the heel compared with the preceding model, and reduced the drop from 7 mm to 6 mm to pursue a smoother, faster ride. The forefoot outsole uses ASICSGRIP rubber, which ASICS associates with traction and toe-off. These are manufacturer claims, not independent comparative findings. The Canadian product page also lists an OrthoLite sockliner and AHAR LO outsole rubber.
How does it feel on a run?
In its review published September 10, 2026, RTINGS characterized the shoe as light, firm, and low-profile. Its tests found low energy return and a less cushioned feel over longer distances. The firmness can provide a stable platform, but RTINGS also found a relatively narrow landing platform, leaving less margin for error.

RTINGS judged the shoe mediocre for half- and full-marathon racing. That is the reviewer’s assessment based on its testing, not a universal verdict: comfort and performance depend on the runner, pace, distance, and preferred feel. The available test evidence supports a clearer fit for runners who want a firm, straightforward shoe for quicker training than for those prioritizing a highly cushioned long-distance ride.
What do the weight and stack measurements show?
The published weight differs between the manufacturer listing and the independent test. ASICS’ U.S. listing gives 220 g (7.8 oz); RTINGS measured 211.9 g (7.47 oz). The sources do not explain the difference or establish that the figures came from matching samples or weighing conditions, so they should be treated as separate reported values.

How does the fit run?
RTINGS reports that the shoe fit true to size for most runners it assessed, but found little vertical clearance above the toes. If you prefer extra room overhead or have had toe contact in similarly shaped shoes, pay close attention to toe space and your own fit preference rather than relying on the true-to-size finding alone.

- Consider it if: you want a neutral shoe marketed for quicker sessions, prefer a firm and relatively low-profile feel, and are comfortable with the fit and toe room.
- Think carefully if: you want more cushioning or energy return for longer runs, need generous vertical toe-box space, or prefer a wider-feeling landing platform.
- For half- or full-marathon use: RTINGS’ test-based assessment is negative. That finding is a useful caution, especially if long-distance comfort is your priority, but individual experience can vary.
