Yes—provided you want a full-size controller rather than an all-in-one phone gamepad. The 8BitDo Pro 3 connects to Android and Apple devices by Bluetooth or wired USB, adds premium-style controls such as TMR sticks and remappable rear inputs, and works across Switch, Windows and SteamOS too. The often-mentioned $47 price was a temporary deal, not a guaranteed current price, so check the live listing before buying.
What the 8BitDo Pro 3 is
The Pro 3 is a conventional, full-size Bluetooth gamepad. Your phone remains a separate device; the controller does not slide onto or physically hold it. For handheld play, you either rest the phone nearby or add the separately sold 8BitDo Mobile Gaming Clip.
8BitDo lists support for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Windows, SteamOS, Android and Apple hardware. On Android, supported Apple devices and computers, connection is through Bluetooth or USB. Windows and Switch can also use the included 2.4G adapter. The official compatibility list specifies Android 13 or later and Apple iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, macOS and visionOS 26 or later.
Why it stands out for mobile play
Hall Effect-style control hardware
The Pro 3 uses TMR joysticks and Hall Effect triggers. TMR sticks sense movement magnetically, while the triggers can switch between a regular analog feel and a tactile mode. These features are intended to provide consistent input and let you choose faster-feeling trigger presses for suitable games.

Magnetic ABXY buttons can be swapped between Switch and Xbox layouts. Two fast remappable bumpers and two rear paddles provide four additional controls, useful for keeping thumbs on the sticks in action, racing or cloud-streaming games. Android and iPhone setup
- Choose a connection. Use Bluetooth for the simplest wireless setup, or connect a USB-C cable if both the phone and cable support controller data.
- Put the controller in its mobile pairing mode. Follow the Pro 3 quick-start instructions, then open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and select the controller when it appears.
- Check the game. Most controller-enabled games detect a standard gamepad automatically, but some titles require controller support to be enabled in their own settings.
- Mount the phone if desired. Attach the separately sold 8BitDo Mobile Gaming Clip to turn the setup into a screen-and-controller handheld. Without the clip, the Pro 3 remains a separate pad.
- Use USB when Bluetooth is unsuitable. Wired play can reduce wireless variables, but it occupies the phone’s USB-C port and may require an appropriate adapter for some devices.
The mobile clip is optional for compatibility, but it is the practical accessory if you want to play while holding the controller and phone together. 8BitDo states that the clip is compatible with the Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad and is sold separately.

Is the $47 price real?
$47 was a reported temporary Woot deal. Yahoo Tech described the controller as typically $70 before that discount, but the deal was time-sensitive and is not a standing list price. TechRadar’s May 2026 review listed a US price of $59.99 and a UK price of £40; its UK figure varied by colorway. Check the current retailer listing, shipping and color before treating any price as current.

Trade-offs before you buy
Strengths
- One controller works with Android, Apple platforms, Switch, Windows and SteamOS.
- TMR sticks, switchable trigger feel, swappable ABXY caps and four extra remappable controls are unusual at this price tier.
- A charging dock, 2.4G adapter and replacement joystick caps are included.
- Bluetooth and wired USB cover the two most useful mobile connection options.
Limitations
- It is large and separate from the phone; handheld use needs the optional clip.
- There is no 3.5 mm headphone jack, so wired headphones cannot plug into the controller.
- TechRadar found the Start and Select buttons mushy in its roughly three-week test, conducted mainly on PC and Switch 2.
- Actual battery life can fall below the advertised 20 hours; that review reported about 15 hours.
Who should buy it?
Choose the Pro 3 if you want one substantial gamepad for mobile and console or PC use, value rear paddles and configurable controls, and are comfortable carrying a separate controller. It is especially practical for Android or Apple gaming at a desk, on a stand or with the optional clip.
Look elsewhere if your priority is an ultra-compact controller that attaches directly to a phone, built-in headphone connectivity, or the certainty of a permanent $47 price. The Pro 3’s strongest value depends on its current sale price and whether you will use its cross-platform features.
The Bottom Line
The 8BitDo Pro 3 is a capable mobile controller with broad platform support and unusually configurable hardware. Buy it when the live price makes sense for you, and add the Mobile Gaming Clip if you need a true phone-mounted handheld setup.
