Star Wars Zero Company is worth buying if you want a single-player, character-driven Clone Wars campaign built around turn-based squad tactics. It is a weaker fit if you dislike turn-based combat, need multiplayer, or want a short game. Electronic Arts estimates the main story at about 30–40 hours for most players, while one TechRadar reviewer reported spending just over 40 hours. The game launched on August 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
What Star Wars Zero Company is
Star Wars Zero Company is a single-player, turn-based tactics game from Electronic Arts and Bit Reactor, made in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. It is set during the twilight of the Clone Wars, a period when the Republic and Separatists are still at war but the conflict is approaching its decisive end.

You lead Hawks, a former Republic officer, and a team of unconventional professionals. Their opponent is the Infinite Coil, a Separatist-aligned threat. The campaign combines tactical missions with investigations, squad management, character relationships, and a cinematic Star Wars story.

That combination matters to the buying decision. Zero Company is not a real-time action game, a competitive shooter, or a multiplayer strategy title. Its central question is whether you enjoy taking time to position a team, choose actions, adapt a plan, and then watch those decisions play out.
#1 Best Overall
- Command an elite squad through a gritty and authentic Star Wars story set in the twilight of the Clone Wars. Step into the role of Hawks, a former Republic officer leading Zero Company against an emerging threat that could consume the galaxy.
How the tactics gameplay works
Plan a squad before each operation
The game asks you to prepare your team rather than sending a fixed group into every mission. You recruit squad members, adjust their equipment and abilities, and decide how each person fits the operation. Hawks also has a customizable combat specialization, so the leader you build can reflect the way you prefer to approach encounters.
Other characters can receive tailored appearances, loadouts, and abilities. Customization therefore has both a role-playing function and a tactical one: your choices determine which tools and combat roles are available when a mission begins.
Position characters and spend actions deliberately
Combat is turn-based. You plan positions and actions for individual squad members, then resolve the operation through a sequence of deliberate decisions rather than continuous movement and shooting. That structure gives you time to examine the situation, decide which character should act, and consider how one move affects the rest of the squad.
The game is designed around tactical operations, so success depends on managing the whole team instead of treating every character as an independent hero. A useful approach is to decide what each member must accomplish before committing to a turn: advance, attack, support another character, or preserve a more valuable option for the next exchange.
Players who enjoy turn-based tactics will recognize the appeal of solving a battle as a chain of decisions. Players who prefer immediate controls and uninterrupted action should understand that the pauses for planning are the point of the design, not a temporary break from the “real” game.
Build synergies through squad bonds
Squad relationships are connected to combat. EA says bonds between members can unlock combat synergies, making the social side of the campaign relevant to battle preparation. Developing a relationship is therefore not only a story choice; it can affect how particular characters work together in an operation.
This system gives you a reason to care about team composition beyond raw equipment. A character may be valuable because of a specific ability, a preferred loadout, or the way that character combines with a trusted partner. If you like games where the roster develops over time, the relationship system is one of Zero Company’s most important features.

The campaign alternates its tactical operations with investigations. Those investigations provide the narrative context for the conflict with the Infinite Coil and give the squad time to develop outside combat. The result is a broader loop than a sequence of disconnected battles: recruit and customize the team, investigate the threat, choose the next task, fight an operation, and prepare for what follows.
Use the Den as your strategic base
Between missions, the squad operates from the Den, a base on the Ring of Kafrene. StarWars.com describes the Den’s galaxy map as the place where players select strategic tasks and tactical missions.
Rank #2
That map makes the campaign feel like a series of choices rather than a strictly linear list of battles. You decide which available task to pursue, then prepare the squad for the mission you selected. The base also provides the natural setting for managing the roster, maintaining relationships, and adjusting equipment before deployment.
What a mission-to-mission cycle feels like
Zero Company’s structure is easiest to understand as a repeating preparation-and-operation cycle. You return to the Den, review the strategic tasks and tactical missions available on the galaxy map, and decide what deserves the squad’s attention. That decision is followed by the less visible work that makes a battle manageable: selecting members, reviewing their abilities, changing loadouts, and considering which relationships might produce useful combat synergies.
Once an operation begins, the emphasis shifts from broad planning to local decisions. Each character’s position and action contributes to the squad’s overall plan, so the order in which you commit those choices matters. You might move one member to create an opportunity for another, use an ability before an attack, or hold a useful option for a later turn. The game’s appeal is in weighing those alternatives rather than relying on reflexes.
After the operation, investigations and character relationships keep the campaign moving. Recruitment and customization are not one-time menus; they are part of the continuing process of shaping a team for later missions. That gives the campaign a sense of progression even when the basic combat format remains consistent.
The result should suit players who enjoy seeing a plan improve over time. Early missions teach you how your chosen specialists fit together, while later preparation lets you make more deliberate decisions about appearances, abilities, loadouts, and bonds. It is also why the game is less suitable for someone looking only for short, self-contained action encounters.
Story, characters, and the Clone Wars setting
Hawks is a customizable lead
Hawks is a former Republic officer who now leads the Zero Company. You can customize Hawks’s appearance and combat specialization, while the rest of the team can be given individual looks, loadouts, and abilities.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The customization supports a personal version of the protagonist without removing the character’s place in the story. Lucasfilm Games executive producer Orion Kellogg described Hawks as distinctive within the franchise: “I don’t think I can point at another character in the Star Wars franchise and say, oh, that’s Hawks.”
A squad of unconventional professionals
The team is deliberately not presented as a standard military unit. Its members are unconventional professionals brought together for a dangerous campaign. Their different backgrounds and personalities give the story an ensemble structure, while their abilities and bonds shape your tactical options.
Because relationships can unlock combat synergies, the roster is not simply a collection of interchangeable units. The people you recruit and the way you develop them can influence both the tone of the story and the practical composition of your squad.

TechRadar’s August 2026 review praised the story and cast but criticized the antagonist as underused. That is the reviewer’s assessment, not a universal judgment or a statement that later updates have left the issue unchanged.
How long is Star Wars Zero Company?
EA Help estimates that most players will need around 30–40 hours to complete the main story. The estimate varies with difficulty and with your experience in turn-based tactics, so it should be treated as a general range rather than a guaranteed runtime.
TechRadar reviewer Demi Williams reported spending just over 40 hours playing. That is one reviewer’s personal playtime, not a measured average for the player base. Your total can be shorter or longer depending on how thoroughly you investigate, how much time you spend customizing the squad, and how quickly you solve battles.
A 30–40-hour main campaign is substantial for a focused single-player strategy game. It is long enough for relationships, equipment choices, and tactical habits to develop, but it is not an endless live-service commitment. If you want a short weekend game, the campaign may feel too large; if you want a story-driven strategy game with room for a full roster arc, the length is a strong point.

Turn-based tactics versus real-time action
The most important mechanical comparison is not between editions or platforms; it is between turn-based planning and real-time control. Zero Company gives you time to inspect the situation and decide how the squad should act. The enjoyment comes from sequencing moves, positioning characters, and preserving options for the next exchange.
That makes the game a natural fit for players who like pausing to think through a problem. It is less appropriate if your preferred Star Wars experience depends on constant movement, immediate aiming, or uninterrupted action. The turn structure is present throughout the tactical operations, so it is not something you can avoid by choosing a different character or mode.
There is also no multiplayer mode to change that rhythm. Every operation is built for a solo player managing the squad, which can make the campaign feel focused but rules it out for anyone specifically shopping for cooperative tactics.
Platforms and editions

EA Help says Zero Company has no online or competitive multiplayer, online co-op, local or split-screen co-op, or other online social features. Buy it for the solo campaign, not for a shared progression mode.

For PC buyers, the choice is between three listed digital storefronts rather than a boxed release. Console buyers have a digital option on both systems and can look for physical Standard Edition copies through selected retailers. A physical copy can be useful if you collect discs or plan to resell a game, but availability is retailer-dependent and should be checked at the time of purchase.
Is the Collector’s Edition worth considering?
The Collector’s Edition is aimed at physical collectors rather than players seeking additional gameplay. EA’s launch announcement listed a $299.99 suggested retail price and included a Star Wars Zero Company-themed Hasbro Black Series Thermal Detonator, a SteelBook, a desk mat, and other items. Limited Run Games was identified as the retailer in that announcement.
The package does not make the campaign longer or add a different tactical mode. Its value depends on whether the physical collectibles justify a much higher price than a standard copy. Check current stock, the exact contents, and the price before ordering because the announcement describes a launch offering rather than guaranteed inventory.
Who should buy Star Wars Zero Company?
| Your preference | Fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You enjoy turn-based squad tactics | Strong fit | The entire combat loop is built around planning positions, actions, and team composition. |
| You want a character-driven Star Wars campaign | Strong fit | Hawks, the unconventional squad, investigations, and relationship development are central systems. |
| You like customizing teams | Strong fit | Hawks and other characters can receive customized appearances, loadouts, abilities, and combat specializations. |
| You prefer real-time action | Weak fit | Combat pauses for deliberate, turn-based planning instead of continuous action. |
| You need multiplayer or co-op | Not a fit | The game is single-player and has no online or local multiplayer modes. |
| You want a short campaign | Probably a weak fit | EA estimates 30–40 hours for the main story, with difficulty and experience affecting the total. |
| You collect premium physical editions | Conditional fit | The Collector’s Edition emphasizes physical items and carries a much higher launch SRP. |
What reviewers liked—and the caveats to keep in mind
TechRadar’s August 2026 PC review recommended Zero Company to Star Wars fans, players who enjoy turn-based combat, and people looking for a cinematic story. The review praised the tactical gameplay, customization, cast, and story.
The same review listed an underused antagonist and audio-sync bugs among its drawbacks. These are observations from that reviewer’s playthrough, not proof that every platform has the same issues or that they remain unchanged after patches. Treat them as reasons to check current platform-specific feedback before purchase, especially if presentation polish is a deciding factor.
Because the strongest firsthand assessment available here is a PC review, it should not be read as a definitive performance verdict for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. Platform, patch version, and hardware can affect a player’s experience.

- Confirm the platform. Choose PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. On PC, the listed options are the EA app, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
- Decide whether turn-based planning is your preferred combat style. Watch for the difference between wanting tactical decision-making and wanting real-time control; Zero Company is firmly in the former category.
- Budget for the campaign length. Plan for roughly 30–40 hours for the main story according to EA’s estimate, with your difficulty and familiarity affecting the total.
- Choose the edition by its extras. Standard includes the base game. Deluxe adds cosmetics and weapon themes, not extra gameplay. The Collector’s Edition is primarily a physical-collectible purchase.
- Check current pricing and stock. The $59.99 PC and $69.99 console figures were launch SRPs for Deluxe, while Collector’s Edition inventory and pricing may change.
- Set expectations for solo play. There is no competitive multiplayer, online co-op, local co-op, split-screen, or other online social feature.
- Look for current platform-specific reports if technical polish matters. The audio-sync issues noted by TechRadar were reviewer observations from August 2026 and should not be generalized to every current installation.
Verdict: is Star Wars Zero Company worth buying?
Buy Star Wars Zero Company if your ideal Star Wars game is a substantial solo campaign where you recruit a distinctive squad, customize its members, investigate a Clone Wars-era threat, and solve battles one decision at a time. The combination of turn-based tactics, squad bonds, strategic mission selection, and character-focused storytelling gives it a clear identity beyond its license.
Skip it—or wait for a sale—if you dislike turn-based combat, require multiplayer, or have little time for a campaign that may take 30–40 hours. The Deluxe Edition is only worth the premium when its cosmetic content and weapon themes matter to you, while the Collector’s Edition is a collectibles purchase rather than a gameplay upgrade.
On the evidence available, Zero Company is a conditional recommendation: a strong choice for tactical Star Wars fans and a poor match for players seeking real-time action or online play.
