Yes, Sophos Home looks like a credible choice for households that want web and ransomware protection, parental web filtering, and remote management. But the available independent evidence does not establish that it is best-in-class, and published scores for Sophos’s business product should not be mistaken for results for Sophos Home.

What Sophos Home offers

Sophos describes Home as providing malware scanning and cleaning, AI-based threat detection, ransomware protection, web protection against malicious or compromised sites, device management, and parental web filtering. These are vendor-described features, not independent proof that every threat will be blocked.

Household management and device coverage

Sophos Home Premium advertises remote security management for up to 10 devices. Sophos’s marketing page describes coverage for up to 10 Windows and Mac computers, plus an unlimited number of iOS and Android phones and tablets. Those mobile-device figures do not establish that phones receive the same antivirus features as desktop computers, so check the feature list for each operating system before relying on mobile coverage. Sophos Home Support describes a Premium-feature trial for up to three devices for 30 days. Device limits and offer terms can change; confirm them on the current Sophos offer in your region. Is Sophos Home effective?

Independent test coverage is relevant, but the available evidence does not support a specific Sophos Home detection rate or protection score.

Protection testing

AV-Comparatives lists Sophos Home Premium among 20 home-user security programs in its February–May 2026 Real-World Protection Test. Inclusion confirms that the product was tested; the cited listing does not provide Sophos’s outcome. It therefore cannot support a claim about a detection percentage, ranking, or award. AV-Comparatives: Real-World Protection Test, February–May 2026

AV-Comparatives’ 2025 consumer summary does not include Sophos in its listed vendor and product set. That is not evidence that Sophos failed a test; the 2026 real-world test listing does include Sophos Home Premium. The reports cover different periods and test scopes. Performance testing

AV-Comparatives’ April 2026 low-end Consumer Performance Test includes Sophos Home Premium 2024.3. It measured system performance on an up-to-date 64-bit Windows 11 setup and cautions that results apply to the listed product versions and test conditions. The cited report information does not give a Sophos score, so it does not justify a numeric slowdown claim or a prediction for your computer. AV-Comparatives: Consumer Performance Test, April 2026

Why Sophos business scores do not answer the Home question

AV-TEST’s August 2026 listing gives Sophos Intercept X Advanced version 2026.2 scores of 6/6 for protection, 5.5/6 for performance, and 6/6 for usability in a business Windows-client test. Intercept X Advanced is Sophos’s business endpoint product, not Sophos Home. Those scores cannot be presented as consumer-product results. AV-TEST: Business Windows-client tests

Compatibility and system requirements

Sophos lists support for Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11, and says ARM architecture is not supported. Its stated Windows minimums are:

  • 4 GB of RAM.
  • 1 GB of free disk space.
  • An additional 3 GB of free disk space for Premium CryptoGuard ransomware protection.

Sophos Home is intended for private, non-commercial use. Businesses should assess Sophos Central or another business endpoint product rather than treating the consumer product as a business recommendation. Check the current requirements before installation, since supported systems can change. Sophos Home system requirements

Who should consider Sophos Home?

  • It may fit a household that values managing protection remotely, web filtering for children, and the advertised web and ransomware defenses.
  • Check carefully first if you need a verified independent consumer protection result, a measured performance impact for your specific computer, or identical features across Windows, Mac, and mobile devices.
  • It is not the right product category for a business endpoint deployment; Sophos states that Home is for private, non-commercial use.
