The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is a premium foldable for people who will regularly use its large inner screen, multitasking space, stronger camera hardware and larger battery. For everyone else, its reported US launch price of $2,099.99 makes it a hard phone to justify—especially if you want long-range optical zoom. That is a value judgment based on Samsung’s specifications and published reviews, not a hands-on test by itechguides.com.

What the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra offers

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra on July 22, 2026, as its high-end book-style foldable. It began selling in select markets on August 7, with a wider global rollout planned. Availability, colors, storage configurations and carrier offers vary by market, so the launch details below should not be treated as a current local quote.

The phone has an 8.0-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover display, measured diagonally. Samsung notes that rounded corners and the camera opening reduce the actual viewable area. The larger unfolded screen is the main reason to consider this design: it gives more room for reading, video, split-screen apps and other tasks that benefit from a tablet-like canvas. The trade-off is that this is a more specialized and expensive phone than a conventional flagship.

At this price, the question is not simply whether the phone is capable. It is whether the larger display and specific hardware upgrades will change how you use your phone often enough to justify paying a substantial premium. Check Samsung’s local store and carrier listings for the price and configuration actually available to you.

What do you get for the extra cost?

A larger screen and a revised design

TechRadar praised the slimmer design, a flatter, less noticeable crease and an anti-reflective inner panel. Those characteristics address some practical irritations of using a large folding screen, but they matter most if you unfold the phone frequently. If you mostly use a phone closed, the Ultra’s central advantage is less compelling.

A high-resolution main camera, but limited optical reach

Samsung specifies a 200MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide. TechRadar lists a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. That is a capable-sounding camera set on paper, but the Ultra does not offer the 5x or 10x optical reach some readers may expect from a phone carrying an “Ultra” name. TechRadar’s review praised the overall camera package while wishing for a stronger optical telephoto option. If distant subjects are a priority, do not assume the name means long-range optical zoom.

A larger battery and faster wired charging

Samsung lists a dual battery with a typical capacity of 5,000mAh and a rated capacity of 4,854mAh. These figures describe the same battery using different capacity measures; the typical figure is not the rated figure. Samsung lists the standard Fold8 battery as 4,800mAh typical and describes the Ultra as built for all-day productivity, but that company statement is not an independent battery result.

TechRadar’s reviewer, after using the phone for almost two weeks, reported: “That battery gave me, with constant, all-day, mixed use in bright sunlight, 12.5 hours of battery life.” The same review reported 14 hours in TechRadar’s lab tests. These are reviewer results under the publication’s usage and test conditions, not a guaranteed runtime for every owner.

Wired charging is rated at 45W. Samsung claims up to 67% charge in around 30 minutes using a 45W adapter and 3A USB-C cable, with the screen and services off under its lab conditions; actual results vary. The 45W adapter is sold separately. Samsung also lists 20W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare, with compatibility caveats.

Water resistance, not a phone for the pool

Samsung lists an IP48 rating and warns that water resistance can diminish with wear. It does not recommend beach or pool use. Treat the rating as a limited protection specification, not permission to expose an expensive foldable to water, sand or other harsh conditions.

Fold8 Ultra vs. standard Fold8: which makes more sense?

The standard Fold8 is the clearest same-family alternative. TechRadar characterizes the Ultra as the larger-screen, camera-focused choice; the standard model has a distinct 4:3-oriented form factor and a lower reported launch price. The evidence available here does not establish a complete side-by-side test, so compare the exact local models and prices rather than assuming one is better for every task.

If the Ultra’s larger screen and camera configuration do not fit your regular use, the cheaper Fold8 may be the more sensible place to start.

Who should buy it—and who should skip it?

It may be worth considering if

  • You regularly need a large unfolded screen for reading, multitasking or other phone-based work.
  • You value the Ultra’s specified main and ultrawide cameras and are comfortable with 3x optical telephoto reach.
  • You want the larger stated battery capacity and accept that real-world endurance depends on use.
  • The current local price fits your budget without sacrificing features you need more.

Look elsewhere if

  • You primarily want a conventional phone or rarely use a large inner display.
  • Your top priorities are a lower purchase price or substantially longer optical zoom reach.
  • You are comparing it with the S26 Ultra: it is a relevant non-folding Samsung alternative, but the cited sources do not establish that the two are equivalent in a full head-to-head test.

TechRadar points cost-focused buyers toward the Fold8 or Flip8. Motorola’s Razr Fold 2026 is another foldable mentioned in that review, but a sound recommendation requires checking its current local price and specifications against the Samsung models.
