At the latest cited Steam check on October 13, 2026, Salt and Soil: A Frontier Family Sim was not yet available for purchase, and Steam listed November 9, 2026 as the planned release date. The developer describes a full, playable campaign, but also says characters, homestead businesses, and the economy are simpler than intended for version 1.0. There was no listed price and no Steam user-review record at that time, so you cannot yet make a properly informed Early Access purchase. Recheck the live listing after the planned date and decide based on the actual price, build, reviews, connection requirement, and AI disclosure.
What the current evidence says

The developer’s Early Access questionnaire says the campaign can be played from beginning to end, including the homestead, family, generational succession, trade, neighbors, and historical events on a North American map.
That statement describes intended Early Access scope, not a guarantee of the final level of depth. The same disclosure says the current characters, homestead businesses, and economy are simpler than intended for version 1.0.

The practical distinction is between breadth and depth. Breadth is the developer’s claim that the campaign, family, trade, neighbors, and historical events are all represented. Depth is where the current build is explicitly less complete. If you mainly want to see whether a family can survive the entire 1607–1900 journey, the stated scope may be enough. If you want rich individual personalities, highly differentiated businesses, or a mature economy, the acknowledged simplification is a reason to wait.

Planned improvements are not current features
The developer lists deeper characters and businesses, improved scenarios, mod support, and an offline option using a local language model among the planned improvements. These are future intentions that depend partly on player feedback. They should not be counted as features you receive on the first Early Access build.
This distinction matters most for the offline plan. The current Steam disclosure says an internet connection is required because the Family Council uses generative AI. An offline option is described as a future goal, not as an available launch setting. Buy only if the present online requirement is acceptable; do not purchase on the assumption that an offline mode will arrive by a particular date.

How the AI-powered Family Council works
Steam’s Early Access disclosure says generative AI produces some annual Family Council narrative and structured choice outcomes. The output is based on the current campaign state, constrained by game data, and validated before it is shown to the player. In other words, the council is presented as a game-system layer that turns your accumulated state into yearly narrative and choices, rather than an unrestricted general chatbot.
The same disclosure makes the internet connection a current requirement. If you regularly play without a connection, travel with a laptop, or avoid games that depend on remote services, that requirement is a decisive reason to wait for a confirmed offline build or choose another game. The planned local-language-model option does not remove the requirement today.
The developer explains the design problem this way:

That statement is useful context for Early Access: long-term balance is difficult to validate internally, so the first public campaigns are part of the balancing process. It is also a reason not to assume that the generational economy or delayed consequences will already be tuned to final quality.

The relatively small storage figures do not establish expected performance, loading behavior, battery life, or support for every Mac configuration. No independent performance test or benchmark was available in the cited material. Meeting the minimum RAM and storage figures means only that your system matches the listed baseline; it does not prove that the launch build will run exactly as you want.
What is known about bugs, balance, and reviews
At the cited Steam check, the store page displayed no user reviews. That means there was no player rating, review average, or accumulated feedback from which to judge stability, balance, pacing, or the quality of the AI-generated council content.

Do not infer a player count, performance result, or review score from the game’s announcement activity. None was established by the cited sources.
Price and the decision to wait for version 1.0
No current price was shown in the retrieved Steam listing. Without a launch price, it is impossible to calculate a discount, compare the cost of Early Access with the cost of waiting, or decide whether the unfinished systems represent a good value.

- Buying earlier could let you play the complete stated campaign scope sooner, contribute feedback, and possibly pay less than the eventual 1.0 price—but only after the listing becomes available and only if the actual launch price is acceptable.
- Waiting for more Early Access updates gives you a chance to see reviews, balance changes, and progress on the simpler characters, businesses, and economy, but the price may change before 1.0.

Once the listing is live, an Early Access purchase can make sense for a particular type of player:
- You enjoy turn-based, multi-generation colony simulations and are interested in testing a family legacy over the full historical campaign.
- You are comfortable with simpler characters, businesses, and economic systems while they are developed.
- You can play with a reliable broadband connection and accept the current generative-AI Family Council system.
- You are willing to report problems or provide feedback instead of expecting a finished, fully balanced simulation.
- The live price is low enough that the current scope—not the future promise—feels worthwhile to you.
These conditions describe a fit with the current trade-offs, not a claim that the launch build will be polished.
