Rocket Companies (NYSE: RKT) could suit a long-term investor who accepts a highly cyclical mortgage business and is willing to underwrite acquisition execution, servicing economics and valuation. Its platform is larger after the Redfin and Mr. Cooper acquisitions, and Q2 2026 reported substantially higher adjusted revenue, adjusted net income and adjusted EBITDA than Q2 2025. Those comparisons include the acquired businesses, however, and do not establish organic growth or prove that the stock is cheap.

A sound decision requires comparing the current share price with normalized earnings and cash generation across a mortgage cycle. The available company disclosures do not establish a current share price, forward multiples or a defensible price target, so the evidence supports a conditional assessment rather than a categorical buy or sell call.

What Rocket Companies owns and how the strategy changed

Rocket describes itself as a Detroit-based homeownership platform spanning mortgage, real estate and personal finance. Its portfolio includes Rocket Mortgage, Redfin, Rocket Close, Rocket Money and Rocket Loans; the 2025 Form 10-K also lists Rocket Homes and Lendesk Technologies among its subsidiaries.

Two transactions materially changed the company’s perimeter. Rocket completed its acquisition of Redfin on July 1, 2025, adding a real-estate brokerage and a source of consumer traffic. It completed the Mr. Cooper acquisition on October 1, 2025, expanding mortgage-servicing scale. Management’s thesis is that customer reach, servicing relationships, real-estate services and personal-finance products can reinforce one another through cross-selling and mortgage recapture.

#1 Best Overall

That is a strategic hypothesis, not evidence that the benefits have already been delivered. Rocket’s 2025 Form 10-K warns that anticipated acquisition benefits may not occur and that integration can disrupt operations, technology, personnel or existing plans. Because the acquisitions closed during 2025, year-over-year comparisons in 2026 combine different sets of businesses.

Rocket’s stated mission is “Help Everyone Home.” The investor-relations page says the platform handles more than 160 million client calls a year and more than 30 petabytes of data; those are company-stated figures, not independently verified measurements. The same page attributes 23 No. 1 J.D. Power rankings to Rocket Mortgage across primary mortgage origination and mortgage servicing. Award categories and years should be checked before using that record as a direct comparison with another lender.

What Q2 2026 actually showed

Rocket’s Q2 2026 earnings release reported higher adjusted results than Q2 2025. The figures below are management-reported and the adjusted measures are non-GAAP; they should be read alongside the release’s reconciliation to GAAP.

Q2 2026 measure Reported amount How to interpret it
Adjusted revenue $2.761 billion Non-GAAP revenue measure; compare only with consistently defined periods.
Adjusted net income $441 million Non-GAAP earnings measure, not the same as GAAP net income.
Adjusted EBITDA $766 million Non-GAAP operating-profit measure; use the company’s reconciliation before valuation work.
GAAP diluted EPS $0.08 GAAP per-share result for the quarter.
Total liquidity at June 30, 2026 $11.2 billion Includes $3.1 billion of cash and equivalents, $2.3 billion of undrawn credit lines and $5.8 billion of undrawn available MSR and advance lines; it is not $11.2 billion of cash.

Mortgage production was also substantial. Closed mortgage-loan origination volume was $49.1 billion and total net rate-lock volume was $47.0 billion. Direct to Consumer generated $28.1 billion of closed volume at a 4.13% gain-on-sale margin, while Rocket Pro generated $11.1 billion at a 0.69% margin. These are channel figures defined by management, so they should not be treated as interchangeable with a consolidated margin or as a forecast for every quarter.

Why MSRs make Rocket’s earnings harder to read

Mortgage servicing rights (MSRs) give a servicer the right to receive future servicing cash flows. Their fair value depends on assumptions such as expected prepayments, interest rates, delinquencies and the duration of the servicing relationship. A portfolio can therefore gain or lose reported value even when the associated long-term fee stream has not changed by the same amount.

In Q2 2026, Rocket reported $759 million of fair value of originated MSRs within gain on sale, while the change in fair value of MSRs, net, was negative $616 million. Those lines measure different effects and are not a simple recurring cash-earnings proxy. Investors should separate servicing fees actually generated, new MSRs created through originations, fair-value movements and cash required for servicing advances.

Servicing can be attractive because it produces recurring fee income and creates a relationship through which a borrower may refinance or obtain another product. It is not risk-free recurring revenue: faster prepayments shorten the expected life of an MSR, defaults alter cash flows, and market-rate assumptions can move carrying values sharply.

Potential long-term strengths

Scale and customer reach

A broad mortgage, real-estate and personal-finance platform can create more ways to acquire and retain a customer than a stand-alone originator. Rocket’s own descriptions emphasize brand recognition, customer experience and data capabilities. The investment case depends on those assets producing measurable conversion, recapture and cost benefits, rather than simply increasing the number of products.

Servicing relationships and retention

Rocket reported 97% annual net client retention for its servicing portfolio as of December 31, 2025, using the company’s definition. High retention can support stable fee income and improve the chance of recapturing a borrower when refinancing becomes attractive. Retention does not eliminate runoff: borrowers can sell homes, default, prepay or refinance with another lender.

Expanded distribution after Redfin and Mr. Cooper

Redfin adds brokerage activity and consumer intent around buying or selling a home. Mr. Cooper adds servicing relationships and operational scale. If systems are integrated without harming service levels, Rocket could have more opportunities to originate a loan, retain its servicing and market adjacent products. The Form 10-K’s integration warning means this opportunity must be tested against actual cost savings, customer conversion, retention and cash generation in future filings.

Recent reported improvement

Q2 2026 adjusted revenue, adjusted net income and adjusted EBITDA were all higher than in Q2 2025. That is positive evidence for the combined company, but the acquisition-driven change in scope prevents a clean conclusion about underlying organic growth. An investor should request comparable, pro forma and segment disclosures before assigning a lasting growth rate.

What could make RKT a poor long-term investment

Interest rates and the housing cycle

Rocket states in its 2025 Form 10-K that “Our business is significantly impacted by interest rates.” Higher rates can reduce both refinance demand and purchase affordability, slowing loan volume. Lower rates can revive originations, but they may also accelerate refinancing and shorten the expected life of existing MSRs. Federal Reserve policy, mortgage spreads, employment and home prices all influence the cycle, so one strong quarter cannot establish through-cycle earnings power.

Origination volume, margins and competition

Purchase activity can remain weak when prices are unaffordable, inventory is limited or buyers postpone a transaction. Refinancing depends on a borrower’s existing rate and the gap to current offers. When volume falls, lenders compete more aggressively for each loan, which can compress gain-on-sale margins. Rocket’s 4.13% Direct to Consumer margin and 0.69% Rocket Pro margin in Q2 should therefore be tracked over multiple quarters, with channel mix held in mind.

MSR valuation and prepayment risk

MSR values rely on expected net servicing cash flows. A decline in rates can increase prepayments and reduce the duration of the asset; a rise in rates can support MSR duration but hurt new originations and increase payment stress for some borrowers. Fair-value gains or losses can make GAAP earnings volatile even when servicing fees are comparatively steady. Hedging policy, prepayment assumptions and portfolio runoff deserve attention in every filing.

Servicing advances and liquidity needs

Under many servicing agreements, Rocket must advance scheduled principal and interest, taxes, insurance and certain property costs when a borrower does not pay. Reimbursement can be delayed during delinquency, requiring more cash or borrowing capacity. The $11.2 billion liquidity figure includes undrawn facilities, including MSR and advance lines; those facilities are valuable sources of capacity but are not equivalent to cash on hand and may have borrowing conditions, costs or collateral requirements.

Dependence on the secondary mortgage market

Rocket relies on selling or securitizing loans through a limited group of investors and through government-related channels including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae. A disruption in eligibility, investor appetite, securitization execution or pricing could constrain originations or force Rocket to hold loans longer, tying up capital.

Acquisition and integration execution

Combining Redfin, Mr. Cooper and Rocket’s existing operations involves technology migration, data governance, personnel, branding, compliance and overlapping functions. Costs can arrive before revenue synergies. Management’s expected benefits may be delayed, smaller than planned or offset by disruption. Watch for integration costs, changes in acquisition-related debt, measurable cross-referral rates and whether servicing performance is maintained.

How to analyze Rocket through a full mortgage cycle

A long-term investor should avoid valuing RKT on one quarter’s adjusted EBITDA or on a GAAP result dominated by MSR marks. Build a normalized view using several years that include strong and weak rate environments.

  1. Separate volume from price. Track purchase and refinance originations, rate-lock volume, channel mix and gain-on-sale margins. A volume increase caused only by an acquired business is different from organic share gain.
  2. Reconcile earnings measures. Start with GAAP results, then review the company’s reconciliation for adjusted revenue, adjusted net income and adjusted EBITDA. Identify which adjustments recur, which are acquisition-related and which reflect fair-value accounting.
  3. Measure servicing economics. Follow servicing portfolio size, annual runoff, client retention, recapture, servicing-fee income, delinquencies, advance balances and MSR fair-value sensitivity. A larger portfolio is not automatically more profitable if advances and runoff rise faster.
  4. Stress rates and prepayments. Model a higher-rate case with weaker originations and a lower-rate case with faster MSR prepayments. Include the effect of borrower credit stress and home-price changes on advances.
  5. Test liquidity. Distinguish cash from undrawn lines and assess funding costs, covenant terms and the capacity to finance advances during a delinquency spike.
  6. Demand acquisition evidence. Look for reported cost savings, cross-selling, customer referrals, retention and cash conversion, not just management statements about strategic fit.
  7. Apply a through-cycle valuation. Compare the current market capitalization and enterprise value with normalized earnings and cash generation, using the same definitions and period for any peer comparison.

Is RKT suitable for your portfolio?

RKT is more defensible for an investor who understands mortgage cyclicality, can tolerate volatile quarterly results and has a multi-year horizon. That investor may view servicing relationships and the combined platform as assets that can compound when rates, housing activity and execution align.

It is less suitable for someone seeking predictable annual earnings, low sensitivity to interest rates or a valuation that can be justified from current-quarter GAAP EPS alone. The stock also demands more monitoring than a simple fee-based financial business because MSR marks, advance funding and secondary-market access can change quickly.

What is still missing before calling the stock attractive?

The available evidence does not establish a current RKT share price, forward price-to-earnings or price-to-book ratio, consensus estimates, a peer valuation set or an independent housing forecast. Without those inputs, no responsible analysis can say that Rocket is definitively undervalued or deliver a price target.

The decision step is therefore explicit: obtain the current valuation, normalize earnings across a mortgage cycle, quantify servicing cash flows and advances, and then test whether the Redfin and Mr. Cooper acquisitions are producing measurable benefits. If the price already discounts a strong recovery and seamless integration, the risk-reward may be unattractive even with good Q2 results. If valuation is conservative and servicing cash generation proves durable, the platform could offer long-term upside—but that conclusion depends on numbers not established here.
