Remote access on a Samsung tablet can be reasonably controlled, but “remote desktop” can mean different things: projecting Samsung DeX to a display, sharing the tablet’s screen, letting someone control the tablet, or using the tablet to access another computer. Each has different permissions and risks. Before starting, identify which activity is involved, who initiated it, what the other person can see or do, and how you can end the session.
What “remote desktop” means on a Samsung tablet
Samsung DeX, Android screen sharing and remote-support apps are not interchangeable. Samsung’s DeX instructions describe connecting a Galaxy tablet to a TV or monitor for a desktop-style display; Android’s MediaProjection system governs apps that capture or share the screen. Remote-support apps may request additional capabilities, such as accessibility access, to interact with the tablet.
These platform controls do not certify every third-party app or establish that a person requesting access is trustworthy. Accept a session only when you understand what it does and initiated contact with the support provider yourself.

1. Confirm the session and the app
- Ask whether the request is for DeX projection, screen sharing, remote control of the tablet, or access to another computer.
- Check the app’s publisher and why it requests each permission. Do not accept an unexpected prompt or share a session code you did not request.
- If the app asks you to enable an accessibility service, verify its purpose particularly carefully. Android accessibility services are designed to assist users with disabilities and may inspect screen content or interact with apps on the user’s behalf, depending on configuration.
2. Protect the tablet and accounts
Set a strong screen lock and secure the Samsung and Google accounts used on the tablet. Samsung groups relevant controls under Settings > Security and privacy, including lock-screen, account, lost-device, app-security, update and permission controls. The exact menu labels and available options can vary by Galaxy model, One UI version and carrier.

3. Use Samsung DeX only with a display you recognize
For wireless DeX on supported Galaxy tablets, Samsung’s US support instructions give this path: Settings > Connected devices > Samsung DeX > Connect wirelessly. Select the TV or smart monitor, tap Start now, accept the display’s Allow prompt and grant any required tablet permissions. The display must accept the connection. Samsung cautions that availability and settings vary by device, software version and service provider. Samsung’s wireless DeX instructions provide the model-specific details.
Understand what screen sharing exposes
Android documentation says apps that need screen access should use MediaProjection, which presents a consent prompt. Android 14 QPR2 added the ability to share or record a single app window rather than the entire display; in that mode, system UI such as notifications is excluded. This is a platform capability, not a guarantee that every app offers it: availability depends on Android version and the app’s implementation. Even when sharing one app, anything visible inside that app may be exposed. Before sharing, close or hide sensitive messages, payment details, account-recovery pages and one-time codes when possible. Keep the tablet in view, read the consent prompt, and stop if the other person asks for more access than the task requires.

Why accessibility access deserves extra care
Depending on its configuration, an accessibility service can inspect interface content and act in apps on the user’s behalf. Android requires the system-protected BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE permission for the system to bind to such a service, but that mechanism does not prove an app is safe or that its requested access is appropriate. Grant access only after checking the app and the reason it needs the capability; turn the service off when it is no longer needed. Android’s accessibility-service documentation describes how these services work.

End the session and review access
Disconnect DeX or stop sharing
Stop screen sharing in the app or system controls that started it. Samsung documents disconnecting DeX through Quick settings or Settings > Connected devices > Samsung DeX, depending on the connection type. Use the option shown on your tablet; paths can differ across software versions.
Revoke temporary access
Turn off an accessibility service or other temporary permission that is no longer required. Review Settings > Security and privacy > Permission manager, where available, to check app access to sensitive data. If something unexpected occurred, lock the tablet and review account activity.

Locking DeX and the role of privacy accessories
Samsung says DeX uses the tablet’s configured lock; users can select Lock DeX and unlock with the device’s security credentials or biometric method. Its instructions also note that Samsung NotePaper and Privacy Screen products for tablets do not support biometric authentication. A privacy accessory concerns nearby visual viewing; it is not a remote-access security control. Check compatibility and unlocking behavior for the exact tablet before choosing one. - Do you initiate the session, and can you end it yourself?
- Does it share one app or the whole screen?
- Does it request accessibility, device-management or other sensitive permissions, and are they necessary for the help you need?
- Does it support your tablet and installed Android/One UI versions?
- How does it identify the helper and protect the connection? Verify these claims with the service rather than assuming platform consent answers them.
- Do you actually need screen viewing, control of the tablet, DeX projection, or access to a separate computer?
The Android and Samsung materials cited here explain platform behavior and settings, but do not compare or certify particular remote-support apps. They also do not establish a universal safety verdict for every Galaxy tablet setup or quantify incident risk.
