Short answer: You can reach Quordle through the official quordle.com address, which redirects to Merriam-Webster Games. However, the accessible version of that destination only says that JavaScript is required, so its current price, account requirements, score system, and streak rules cannot be confirmed from the page text alone. Other sites using the Quordle name describe free browser play and tracking features, but those are separate implementations.

That distinction matters. A four-board game with nine shared guesses is documented by quordle.game, while quordle.me displays daily and practice controls plus counters for Played, Win %, Streak, and Solved. Neither site proves that the Merriam-Webster game works identically. Use the exact web address, mode, and operator shown on your screen before relying on any explanation of cost or streaks.

What “free Quordle” means in practice

There is no single ruleset shared by every page carrying the Quordle name. The official destination is quordle.com; it redirects to Merriam-Webster’s games area. The text exposed by that destination states only that JavaScript is needed to run the application. It does not expose a price, a subscription prompt, a sign-in requirement, a statistics panel, or streak instructions.

As a result, the most accurate answer is qualified: the game is available at the official web destination, but the current official free-versus-paid terms are not established by the readable page information. A page loading in your browser without a checkout screen is not the same as a documented guarantee that every feature is free, nor does it tell you whether an account is needed to save results.

Independent implementations provide useful examples, not official rules. quordle.game describes an unlimited browser game with no daily mode. quordle.me presents Daily and Practice controls. Those differences alone show why an answer that simply says “Quordle is free and has one daily puzzle” can be wrong for the site you opened.

How to identify the version you are playing

  1. Type quordle.com directly into the address bar rather than selecting a similarly named search result. Confirm that the browser redirects to the Merriam-Webster Games destination.
  2. Read the final domain in the address bar. A page ending in quordle.game, quordle.me, or another domain is an independent implementation unless the page clearly establishes a different relationship.
  3. Look for the operator’s own labels, such as Daily, Practice, Classic, Extreme, or Weekly Challenge. Do not transfer a guess limit or streak rule from one label or site to another.
  4. Before starting a scored game, locate the statistics or settings panel. Check whether it says what is counted, where data is stored, and whether a browser account or local storage is involved.

This check prevents the most common source of confusion: assuming that a score, streak, or mode found on one Quordle-branded page belongs to all of them.

How the documented four-board game works

The clearest rule description comes from quordle.game, not from the JavaScript-only official page. In that implementation, you solve four separate five-letter answers at the same time. You receive nine shared attempts, so one guess is entered across all four boards rather than spending nine guesses on each board.

Reading the colored clues

  • Green: the letter is correct and in the correct position on that board.
  • Yellow: the letter occurs in that board’s answer but is in the wrong position.
  • Gray: the letter is absent from that board’s answer.

The same typed word can produce different colors on different boards because each board has a different answer. A letter that is green on one board may be gray on another. Evaluate every board separately instead of treating a color as a global verdict.

Managing nine shared guesses

Nine attempts create a resource-allocation problem. Early guesses should reveal common letters and positions across as many boards as possible; later guesses should exploit the board with the fewest remaining possibilities. Because the limit is shared in the documented implementation, spending several turns on a single nearly solved board can leave the other three unsolved.

This nine-guess format is evidence about quordle.game. The official Merriam-Webster game’s interactive rules were not readable from the available page, and other modes may use different limits.

Are other modes and guess limits the same?

No universal list can be confirmed. A listing at dev.quordle.com showed an entry dated October 8, 2026, with modes named Classic, Extreme, Chill, Sequence, Rescue, Image, and Weekly Challenge. The listing indicated that guess limits differed among modes, but it did not establish a complete set of current rules for the Merriam-Webster destination.

Treat those names as a snapshot of that listing rather than a promise that every mode is available to every player. A mode can change its board count, order of play, clues, or number of attempts without changing the site’s name. Record the mode shown in the interface when comparing results.

Destination or implementation What the available page establishes What it does not establish
quordle.com (redirects to Merriam-Webster Games) The official web destination; the page requires JavaScript. Current price, sign-up requirement, guess limit, statistics, streak behavior, and sharing rules.
quordle.game Four five-letter answers, nine shared attempts, board-specific colors, unlimited play, spoiler-free emoji-grid sharing, mobile layout, and an on-screen keyboard. Whether any of these rules apply to Merriam-Webster’s game.
quordle.me Daily and Practice controls; counters labeled Played, Win %, Streak, and Solved. How those counters are calculated, whether practice changes a daily streak, or whether the official game uses the same counters.
dev.quordle.com listing An October 8, 2026 listing naming Classic, Extreme, Chill, Sequence, Rescue, Image, and Weekly Challenge, with differing guess limits. A complete or current rulebook for the official destination.

What scores and statistics can you trust?

A score panel belongs to the site that displays it. On quordle.me, the visible counters are Played, Win %, Streak, and Solved. Those labels tell you what the page chooses to show; they do not reveal, by themselves, whether a loss breaks a streak, whether practice games enter Played, or whether a win is recorded only after all boards are solved.

Do not compare a number from one implementation with a number from another as if they were standardized statistics. “Win %” could use different denominators, and “Streak” could mean consecutive daily completions, consecutive sessions, or another site-defined sequence. The available pages do not document the formulas.

The official Merriam-Webster destination’s interactive statistics could not be read because its game requires JavaScript. If the live interface presents a help or statistics panel, use that panel’s definition for the current version rather than importing assumptions from an independent page.

How streaks and practice games can differ

A daily streak normally depends on completing the site’s designated daily puzzle on successive scheduled days, but that behavior is not established for every Quordle implementation. The inspected pages demonstrate why: quordle.game says its own game is unlimited and has no daily mode, while quordle.me exposes both Daily and Practice controls.

Before starting Practice

  • Check whether the control is explicitly labeled Practice rather than Daily.
  • Open the site’s instructions or statistics explanation to see whether Practice results are saved.
  • Look for a statement about streak eligibility. If none appears, do not assume that practice preserves, extends, or resets a daily streak.
  • Confirm that the date and mode shown in the header match the result you intend to count.

The safest interpretation is site-specific: a practice result may be unlimited entertainment on one page and a tracked session on another. No available source establishes a universal rule that practice either affects or cannot affect a Quordle daily streak.

Can you share Quordle results?

quordle.game describes a spoiler-free emoji-grid share button. Its grid communicates the pattern of successes without printing the answers. That is a feature of that independent implementation; it is not confirmation that the official Merriam-Webster game has the same button or output.

If the page you are using offers a share control, inspect the preview before posting. A correct share preview should avoid revealing the four words, especially when the puzzle is still available to other players. If no share control is present, copying the board or taking a screenshot may expose answers and should be treated differently from an emoji summary.

Playing on a phone or tablet

The FAQ for quordle.game says its layout adapts to mobile screens and provides an on-screen keyboard. That can make four boards easier to use on a small display, but it remains a claim about that site. The official destination may have different responsive behavior once JavaScript loads.

If the board is clipped or the keyboard is missing, verify that JavaScript is enabled, reload the page, and use the browser’s normal zoom rather than relying on an unverified mobile mirror. A missing keyboard or broken layout does not prove that the game is paid; it may indicate a script, browser, or compatibility problem.

Troubleshooting access and missing statistics

The page shows a JavaScript requirement

The official destination explicitly requires JavaScript to run the app. Enable JavaScript for the site, reload, and check that content blockers or strict privacy settings are not preventing the game scripts from running. If the page still contains only the requirement message, the text alone cannot tell you the current access terms.

You opened a look-alike domain

Return to the address bar and compare the domain with the one you intended. Similar names can represent independent games with different prices, modes, and data handling. Do not enter an account password or payment information until you have confirmed the operator.

Your streak or score disappeared

First check that you are on the same domain, mode, and browser profile. A site may store statistics locally, so clearing cookies or site data can remove a local record; another implementation may use an account or a server-side profile. The available sources do not establish how the official game persists data, so the live settings or help panel is the only reliable guide for that version.

The guess count does not match nine

Verify the mode. Nine shared guesses are documented for the four-board game at quordle.game, while the dev.quordle.com listing indicates that limits vary by mode. A different count is not automatically an error.

A practical checklist before you count a result

  1. Confirm the exact domain and operator.
  2. Record the selected mode: Daily, Practice, Classic, or another label.
  3. Read the displayed guess limit and board instructions.
  4. Check whether the page defines Played, Win %, Solved, and Streak.
  5. Determine whether the result is tied to an account, browser storage, or neither.
  6. Use the site’s own share function, if available, and verify that it hides answers.

This checklist is more reliable than relying on a generic “Is Quordle free?” answer because access and tracking are properties of a particular implementation, not of the name alone.

Bottom line on free access, scores, and streaks

Quordle is reachable through the official quordle.com address, but the readable official page does not substantiate its current price or tracking rules. Independent pages document free browser play, four boards, nine shared guesses, daily or practice controls, statistics, and sharing in different combinations. Use the exact site’s instructions for any claim about payment, score persistence, practice, or streaks; do not assume that a feature documented on one Quordle-branded page applies to another.
