TrendForce reported on October 12, 2026, that Qualcomm’s PC processor platforms, including Snapdragon X and X2 Elite, would see an approximately 10% price increase starting in October. TrendForce attributed the information to Commercial Times, which cited supply-chain sources. Accordingly, the careful answer is: a roughly 10% increase has been reported, but it is not established here as a Qualcomm-confirmed announcement. The reported figure applies to processor platforms, not directly to the retail price of every laptop using them.
Why might Qualcomm’s chip costs be rising?
The TrendForce account says Qualcomm’s expansion from smartphone processors into PCs, edge computing and other high-performance computing markets, along with more advanced CPU, GPU and NPU specifications, is increasing reliance on advanced manufacturing nodes and packaging. It presents those factors as cost pressures, but does not quantify how much they contribute to the reported increase.

This supports a narrower conclusion than the assignment’s claim that advanced wafer nodes have eroded Qualcomm’s cost and efficiency strengths over x86. The cited coverage supplies no historical cost series, cost-per-performance comparison, or quantified x86 benchmark demonstrating that those strengths have disappeared. For a purchase decision, compare actual laptop listings rather than applying the reported chip figure to a device’s price. Check the exact model and processor, current price and stock, performance for your workload, battery life under comparable conditions, and compatibility with the software and peripherals you need. The available reporting does not provide current model-by-model prices or an apples-to-apples comparison with x86 laptops.
Keep the PC report separate from smartphone chip pricing
TrendForce also published an August 5, 2026 report about separately reported smartphone Snapdragon chip adjustments, describing planned September 1 changes and tiered expectations. What Qualcomm said about Snapdragon X PCs
At its November 19, 2024 Investor Day, Qualcomm presented Snapdragon X as a PC platform and described its design pipeline and expected market reach. These were company statements and forecasts, not independent validation of battery life, comparative performance, market adoption, or chip cost.
- Qualcomm cited illustrative battery-life figures of 22 hours of video playback on one charge and 15 hours of continuous browsing for thin-and-light designs.
- The company said 58 designs were in production or development for 2025, forecast more than 100 designs, and projected access to 70% of the total addressable market by 2026.
Those figures provide context for Qualcomm’s PC ambitions, but they do not establish a historical cost advantage over x86 or show that such an advantage has been eroded.
