Short answer: PEAK looks worth watching for PS5 owners who enjoy chaotic, teamwork-heavy survival games, but it is not yet a confirmed PS5 purchase. Landfall says console versions are in development and cross-platform play with Steam and other consoles is planned; no PS5 release date, price, or currently playable PS5 edition has been announced in the official sources available as of October 13, 2026.
Is PEAK on PS5 right now?
Not according to the latest official information reviewed. Landfall’s PEAK FAQ says console versions are being developed and that cross-platform play with Steam and other console platforms is planned. The FAQ does not provide a PS5 release date or price. A PEAK Team Steam developer update also describes preparation for console ports and the addition of room codes so players can connect across platforms once those ports launch.
That makes the PS5 version a port to watch rather than a game you can safely buy today. Any listing, release window, price, player-count detail, or feature claim that is not backed by a newer official console announcement should be treated as unconfirmed. The currently documented feature set comes from the Steam edition, released June 16, 2025, so console-specific menus, performance, input options, and save behavior remain unknown.
What kind of game is PEAK?
PEAK is built around one demanding objective: climb a dangerous mountain, survive the route, and help your team reach the summit. The Steam description calls it “a co-op climbing game where the slightest mistake can spell your doom.” That sentence captures the design better than a conventional platformer or relaxed hiking game. Progress comes from reading the terrain, sharing supplies, and recovering from errors rather than simply moving upward as fast as possible.

Runs combine traversal and survival decisions. Players climb ledges, use ropes and climbing spikes, search the environment for food, and cope with injuries that reduce stamina. A missed jump or poorly judged route can therefore create a problem several minutes later: lower stamina makes the next climb harder, while an injured teammate may need assistance or a safer route.
The tension is cooperative rather than purely competitive. One player can scout, another can secure a rope, and a third can carry or distribute useful supplies. The mountain is hazardous enough that communication and patience matter as much as reflexes.
How does PEAK co-op work?
Player count and communication
The Steam listing documents online co-op for up to four players total. It also lists proximity chat, friends-only multiplayer, and offline single-player. Proximity chat means voices are tied to where characters are in the world, so a player who moves ahead may become harder to hear. That supports natural coordination—calling out a ledge, warning about an injury, or asking for a rope—without turning every exchange into a lobby conversation.
These are specifications for the listed Steam edition. Do not assume that the PS5 release, when announced, will use identical matchmaking, chat controls, or offline behavior. Landfall has planned cross-play, but the final console implementation and account requirements have not been documented.

What a four-player run feels like
A full group has more capacity to scout and rescue mistakes, but it also has more opportunities for confusion. The most effective teams tend to establish simple habits:
- Agree on who is scouting and who is carrying shared supplies.
- Stop at safe ledges so slower or injured players can regroup.
- Use ropes and climbing spikes deliberately instead of spending them on every minor obstacle.
- Call out food, injuries, and risky alternate routes before moving.
- Keep proximity-chat distance in mind when splitting around a cliff or obstacle.
Those habits are not formal classes or roles; PEAK’s appeal comes from players improvising them. A group that enjoys talking through problems will get more from the game than a group looking for a silent, individually optimized speedrun.
Solo play
Offline single-player is listed for Steam, giving you a way to learn the climbing and resource systems without coordinating a group. Solo play removes the social chaos but also removes the safety net of another player securing a route or helping after an injury. It is best viewed as a different challenge, not merely a smaller version of four-player co-op.

PEAK is difficult in a practical, risk-and-resource sense. The official store copy emphasizes dangerous climbing and setbacks that limit stamina, but the reviewed sources do not document selectable difficulty modes or settings. You should therefore expect one core ruleset rather than Easy, Normal, and Hard campaigns.

Why mistakes compound
Stamina is the key pressure point. Injuries reduce it, and reduced stamina limits how much climbing you can safely attempt. A mistake is consequential because it can consume a resource needed for the next section, not just because it sends you back a few steps. Food and other scavenged items become part of route planning: using something now may save a teammate, while saving it may make a later ascent possible.
The game also asks you to judge uncertainty. A visible ledge may be reachable, but a safer detour could preserve stamina and equipment. Teams must decide whether to continue after a setback or retry a section while the route is familiar. That is a gentler learning curve than a pure reaction test, but it can feel punishing if your group dislikes losing progress to one poor decision.
Who will find the difficulty enjoyable?

Yes, PEAK has concrete replay systems, although they do not guarantee that every run is completely unique. Steam says the island map rotates every 24 hours, and players can retry a map during the day. The listing also identifies four biomes, dozens of badges, cosmetics to unlock, and 64 Steam achievements.

Daily map rotation
A 24-hour rotation changes the route context from day to day. You can learn the current map through repeated attempts, then return later to face a different arrangement. The ability to retry the same daily map matters because it turns failure into practice rather than requiring an immediate wait for a new layout.
Biomes, badges, and achievements
Four biomes provide environmental variety, while badges and cosmetics offer longer-term goals beyond reaching the top once. The 64 achievements listed on Steam give completion-focused players a defined checklist. These systems support repeat sessions, but they should not be mistaken for a promise of an endless live-service pipeline.
Not a forever-game promise
Landfall’s official FAQ says, “As we’ve said since the beginning, PEAK isn’t a live-service-game.” The FAQ also explains that the developers expect to return to their separate projects while continuing maintenance and bug fixes until they are satisfied with the game’s stability. That positioning is important: buy into the current climbing game and its existing replay loops, not an expectation of constant seasonal content or an unlimited update schedule.
PEAK co-op versus solo: which should you choose?

Does PEAK have crossplay?
Cross-platform play is planned, not confirmed as an active PS5 feature. Landfall’s FAQ says the developers plan cross-play with Steam and other console platforms. The PEAK Team’s Steam update says room codes were added to support cross-platform play once console ports are available.
That gives mixed-platform groups a reason to watch the PS5 version, but it does not answer every practical question. The official material reviewed does not state whether cross-play will be opt-in, whether voice chat will work identically across systems, or whether console players will need a separate account. Wait for the console announcement for those details.
What does the Steam reception tell PS5 buyers?
At access on October 13, 2026, Steam displayed 95% positive English reviews from 140,144 reviews. That is a changing PC-store metric, not an independent survey and not a PS5 rating. It is useful as a signal that the released PC version has attracted broad positive feedback, but it cannot predict console performance, controller feel, frame-rate targets, or launch stability.
The Steam page lists a June 16, 2025 release date. Between that release and any future console launch, controls and technical performance may differ. Look for a PS5-specific announcement, platform requirements, and post-launch reports before treating the Steam reception as a direct console verdict.
Should you wait for the PS5 version?
Wait if these details decide your purchase
- You need a confirmed release date or price.
- You will play only on PS5 and cannot use the Steam edition.
- You require guaranteed cross-play, specific voice-chat behavior, or a particular performance target.
- You want to know whether progress and cosmetics transfer between platforms.
Keep PEAK on your watch list if this sounds appealing
- You have two to four friends who enjoy cooperative problem-solving.
- You like games where injuries, stamina, and supplies make a route feel consequential.
- You are comfortable retrying a climb and learning from failure.
- You value daily map rotation, four biomes, badges, cosmetics, and achievements more than a long-term live-service schedule.
The sensible PS5 decision is to wait for a dated, priced console announcement while judging the concept on its current mechanics. The evidence supports enthusiasm for the co-op design, not a claim that a PS5 edition is available today.
Verdict: is PEAK worth playing on PS5?
PEAK is a promising PS5 prospect for players who want a compact, high-stakes co-op climb rather than a conventional action game. Its strongest reasons to play are the four-player teamwork, proximity-based communication, injury and stamina management, daily map rotation, and collectible goals. Its main cautions are equally clear: the PS5 release is not confirmed, formal difficulty modes are not documented, and Landfall does not position the game as an ongoing live-service product.
In other words, PEAK is worth watching—and potentially worth buying on PS5 once Landfall confirms the port—if your group enjoys improvising under pressure. It is not yet a confirmed PS5 recommendation because the platform, date, price, and final console feature set remain unannounced.
