Palantir stock could be a strong long-term business investment, but the evidence does not support a simple yes-or-no verdict. Palantir Technologies reported unusually fast growth and substantial quarterly profit through the quarter ended June 30, 2026. At the October 12, 2026 close, however, the shares traded at valuation multiples that require investors to assume continued rapid growth and strong execution. Whether PLTR is suitable depends on the price you pay, your time horizon, ability to tolerate volatility, and whether the company can convert current momentum into durable cash flow.
What the latest Palantir results actually show
The latest quarter identified in Palantir’s investor-relations reporting is the second quarter of 2026, ended June 30 and released August 3, 2026. Chief executive Alex Karp’s shareholder letter said the company generated $1.9 billion in quarterly revenue, a 93% increase from the same quarter a year earlier. The letter described it as another record in the company’s two-decade history.
Palantir also reported $1.1 billion in quarterly profit and $1.6 billion in U.S. revenue. Those are company-reported figures. The available material does not establish from the headline letter alone whether the $1.1 billion profit figure is GAAP net income or an adjusted measure, so investors should use the earnings tables and read the accounting label before comparing it with other companies’ GAAP results.
U.S. commercial activity was an especially prominent growth area. Q2 U.S. commercial revenue was $764 million, up 149% year over year. That is a single quarter’s growth rate, not a forecast that the rate will continue. It does show why the market is willing to consider a very high-growth scenario.

Longer-term revenue baseline
Palantir’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K reported $4.5 billion of revenue, up 56% from $2.9 billion in fiscal 2024. The annual figure gives a more useful baseline than extrapolating one exceptional quarter, while still showing that the business was expanding rapidly before the second quarter of 2026.
Management’s 2026 guidance
In its Q2 release, management raised 2026 U.S. commercial revenue guidance to more than $3.424 billion, described as at least 134% growth. It also guided to $4.5 billion–$4.7 billion of adjusted free cash flow. Both statements are forward-looking company guidance, not completed results. Adjusted free cash flow is a non-GAAP measure; compare it with reported cash-flow statements and review the reconciliation before treating it as equivalent to GAAP earnings.

| U.S. commercial revenue guidance | More than $3.424 billion, at least 134% growth | 2026 guidance issued with Q2 results | Management target, not an achieved result. |
| Adjusted free cash flow guidance | $4.5 billion–$4.7 billion | 2026 guidance | Non-GAAP forward-looking measure. |
Why a long-term bull case exists
The positive investment case starts with operating momentum rather than a price chart. Revenue growth accelerated to 93% year over year in Q2 2026, while U.S. commercial revenue grew 149%. Fiscal 2025 revenue had already increased 56%, so the recent result was not the first year of expansion.

A business that wins more commercial customers, renews them and expands their contracts can grow without relying solely on new government awards. Palantir’s reported U.S. commercial figures indicate that commercial demand was a major contributor to the latest growth. The key long-term question is durability: investors need to see whether customer additions, renewals and expansions continue after unusually strong quarters.
Profit and cash generation can support reinvestment
The reported $1.1 billion Q2 profit and management’s $4.5 billion–$4.7 billion adjusted free cash flow guidance suggest substantial financial capacity if the figures are delivered. Durable cash generation could fund product development, sales expansion and implementation work without requiring constant external financing. That conclusion remains conditional on the company achieving its guidance and maintaining margins.

Management is signaling confidence
Raising U.S. commercial guidance to more than $3.424 billion implies that management expected strong momentum through the rest of 2026. Guidance is useful evidence about management’s expectations, but it is not independent confirmation and can be revised. A long-term thesis should therefore treat it as a scenario to test against future reported results.
What could break the investment thesis
Palantir’s own filings identify risks that matter to a multi-year shareholder. They are disclosed possibilities, not predictions that a particular adverse event will occur.

Maintaining a 93% quarterly growth rate becomes mathematically harder as the revenue base gets larger. A company can remain successful while growth decelerates; the risk for shareholders is that the market price may already assume exceptionally high growth for many years. If expansion falls short of those assumptions, the share price can decline even while revenue and profit continue to rise.
Sales cycles can be long and unpredictable
Palantir warns that sales efforts can be expensive and that contracts may take a long or uncertain time to close. Delayed procurement, implementation or renewal decisions can make quarterly results uneven. This matters because a few postponed deals can create a large difference between expected and reported revenue in a high-growth company.
Customer concentration and contract realization
The filings state that a limited number of customers account for a substantial portion of revenue. Losing, shrinking or failing to renew a large account could affect results more than the loss of a small customer. Contract value is also not the same as realized revenue: Palantir cautions that it may not capture the full value of contracts, and bookings or commitments can be converted over time rather than immediately.
Profitability and expenses can change
Palantir warns that operating expenses may rise and that profitability may not be maintained. Hiring, sales investment, implementation costs, stock-based compensation and other expenses can alter margins. The Q2 headline profit should therefore be examined alongside GAAP income statements, cash-flow statements and expense trends rather than treated as a permanent margin level.

The company says operating results can vary significantly from quarter to quarter. Investors who need predictable near-term liquidity may be poorly matched with a stock whose results and valuation can move sharply around earnings, guidance changes or contract news.
Is PLTR’s valuation reasonable?
Valuation is the central counterweight to Palantir’s growth story. In a Stock Analysis snapshot at the October 12, 2026 close, PLTR was priced at $209.00 per share with a reported market capitalization of $502.24 billion, a trailing P/E of 178.75 and a forward P/E of 109.98. These figures are time-sensitive third-party data; vendors can use different earnings definitions and calculation dates.
| Valuation item | Value | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Closing share price | $209.00 | October 12, 2026 close. |
| Market capitalization | $502.24 billion | Stock Analysis snapshot on October 12, 2026. |
| Trailing P/E | 178.75 | Provider-reported ratio; denominator and timing are vendor-specific. |
| Forward P/E | 109.98 | Provider-reported forward estimate; estimates can change. |
A high earnings multiple means the purchase price relies heavily on future earnings growth. If revenue growth slows, margins disappoint, guidance is reduced or investors accept a lower multiple for high-growth software shares, returns can be poor even if Palantir remains profitable. Conversely, a high multiple can be supported if the company delivers exceptional growth and cash generation for longer than the market expects. The snapshot alone cannot prove that the stock is objectively overvalued or undervalued.
Use an explicit valuation model
Rather than asking whether a multiple looks high in isolation, write down the assumptions that would justify it:
Rank #4
- Expected revenue growth for each of the next several years.
- A sustainable operating or free-cash-flow margin, with GAAP and adjusted measures kept separate.
- The time at which growth is expected to settle into a lower mature rate.
- A discount rate that reflects interest rates, business risk and equity volatility.
- Share dilution and the difference between enterprise value and equity value.
Then test lower-growth and lower-margin cases. If the investment only works under the most optimistic assumptions, the price leaves little room for execution mistakes.
How dependent is the thesis on AI adoption?
Palantir is often discussed in connection with artificial-intelligence adoption, but the figures above do not isolate an AI-specific revenue line or prove how much of Q2 growth came directly from AI products. The evidence supports evaluating commercial adoption, customer expansion, contract realization and cash generation rather than assuming that broad AI enthusiasm automatically becomes Palantir revenue.
For an AI-related thesis to strengthen, investors can look for repeatable evidence in future filings: growth across a broad customer base, renewals and expansions, increasing realized revenue from contracts, and margins that remain healthy while deployment scales. A single large deal, demonstration or management comment is weaker evidence than several quarters of reported conversion and retention.
How to compare PLTR with other software stocks
There is no consistent, like-for-like peer valuation dataset in the available evidence, so a claim that PLTR is cheaper or more expensive than particular competitors would not be reliable. You can still compare companies using the same definitions and dates.

| Comparison axis | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Growth durability | Is growth broad across customers and regions, or concentrated in a few contracts or one quarter? |
| Profitability | Are margins and earnings GAAP, adjusted, or a mixture? What costs are excluded? |
| Cash conversion | How closely does free cash flow track operating income, and is the stated measure adjusted? |
| Customer and contract risk | How concentrated are customers, how long are sales cycles, and how much contract value becomes revenue? |
| Valuation | Are P/E, price-to-sales or cash-flow multiples calculated from the same date and denominator? |
| Investor fit | Can you tolerate drawdowns, and does the holding period match the business’s execution risk? |
Comparing a rapidly growing company with a mature software issuer also requires normalizing for growth, margins, dilution and balance-sheet items. A lower multiple is not automatically better if growth is weaker or cash conversion is poor.

A practical decision process for a long-term investor
- Set the role of the position. Decide whether PLTR would be a small speculative growth holding, a core position or an income substitute. A high-volatility growth stock should not be assigned a role that requires stable near-term cash.
- Record the data date. Use the October 12, 2026 price and multiples only as a dated reference. Recheck the price, market capitalization and denominator before placing an order because all are volatile.
- Separate facts from forecasts. Put Q2 and FY2025 results in one column and 2026 guidance in another. Do not treat the $3.424 billion commercial target or $4.5 billion–$4.7 billion adjusted free cash flow range as achieved.
- Verify accounting definitions. Confirm whether profit is GAAP net income and reconcile adjusted free cash flow to the cash-flow statement. Keep stock-based compensation and other exclusions visible.
- Stress-test the price. Model slower revenue growth, lower margins, delayed contracts and a lower exit multiple. Estimate how much the position could fall without assuming a permanent business failure.
- Check concentration and liquidity. Review your exposure to a single company, technology theme or customer-sensitive business. Keep money needed for living expenses or near-term obligations outside a volatile equity position.
- Define monitoring triggers. Before buying, write down what would change your thesis: repeated guidance cuts, slowing commercial growth, weaker renewals, rising concentration, deteriorating cash conversion or an inability to sustain profitability.
Common questions about Palantir as a long-term holding
Is Palantir profitable?
Palantir’s Q2 2026 shareholder letter reported $1.1 billion of profit. The headline evidence does not by itself establish whether that number is GAAP or adjusted, so use the detailed earnings tables before making a profitability comparison.
How fast is Palantir growing?
For Q2 2026, the company reported $1.9 billion of revenue, up 93% year over year, and $764 million of U.S. commercial revenue, up 149%. Fiscal 2025 revenue was $4.5 billion, up 56% from fiscal 2024. These are historical company-reported rates, not guaranteed future growth.
Does the current valuation leave room for attractive returns?
The October 12, 2026 snapshot showed a $209 share price, $502.24 billion market capitalization, 178.75 trailing P/E and 109.98 forward P/E. Whether that supports an attractive return depends on future earnings, cash generation, dilution and the multiple investors assign later; the snapshot cannot answer that alone.
What are the biggest business risks?
Palantir identifies the possibility of slower growth, expensive or unpredictable sales cycles, customer concentration, failure to realize full contract value, higher expenses, loss of profitability and significant quarter-to-quarter variability.
How should I treat the 2026 guidance?
Treat more than $3.424 billion of U.S. commercial revenue and $4.5 billion–$4.7 billion of adjusted free cash flow as management guidance issued with the Q2 results. Compare later reported results with the targets and retain the adjusted qualifier.
Bottom line: a conditional investment case
Palantir has the operating characteristics that can support a compelling long-term story: very rapid reported growth, expanding U.S. commercial revenue and substantial reported profit. The shares also embed demanding expectations, as shown by the October 12, 2026 valuation snapshot. A sensible conclusion is conditional: PLTR may fit an investor who can hold for years, tolerate large drawdowns and accept the risk that growth or valuation falls short. It is not possible to establish a future return from the available results, guidance and one dated market snapshot, so the decision should rest on your own valuation assumptions, diversification plan and liquidity needs.
