No—not through the normal, supported PS5 route. P.T. was delisted from the PlayStation Store, and Konami said players would not be able to re-download it through PS5 backward compatibility. A PS5, new controller, or additional storage does not restore that access.
That answer concerns ordinary consumer use of the PlayStation Store and Sony’s supported backward-compatibility process. It does not prove what happens with every retained installation, modified console, account-transfer scenario, or unofficial download. Those edge cases are not verified solutions and should not be treated as standard ways to play.
The direct answer: can you play P.T. on PS5?
For a normal PS5 owner trying to download or re-download P.T., the answer is no. P.T. is a delisted PS4 playable teaser, not a currently available PS5 download. Konami’s position, reported by GameSpot in October 2020, was explicit: “the content will not be available on the PS Store, so users won’t be able to re-download the content through the backwards compatibility feature to the PS5.”

That means the usual routes are closed:
- You cannot find P.T. as an ordinary PS5 Store download.
- You cannot use PS5 backward compatibility to re-download it from the normal digital-library process.
- Buying PS5 hardware, a DualSense controller, or more storage does not change the title’s Store availability.
The limitation is specific to P.T. It does not mean that PS5 lacks PS4 backward compatibility generally.

Why PS5 backward compatibility does not guarantee P.T.
Sony’s general guidance says PS5 consoles can play the overwhelming majority of PS4 games. Its November 2020 “PS5: The Ultimate FAQ” gave the historical launch-era figure of more than 99 percent of the 4,000-plus games available on PS4. That statistic was a broad statement about the PS4 catalog, not a promise that every demo, beta, or delisted item would remain obtainable.
PlayStation’s compatibility guidance also separates ordinary games from other software. The PS4-only compatibility list excludes demos, media applications, and non-game applications. The same 2020 FAQ said that the majority of legacy PS4 demos and betas would not be playable on PS5. P.T. was released as a playable teaser, so the general “most PS4 games” figure cannot be used as proof that P.T. is supported.
There are two different questions that are often mixed together:
- Can the PS5 technically run a particular PS4 program? General backward-compatibility information addresses this at a high level.
- Can a consumer legally and normally obtain that program today? Store delisting and the publisher’s redownload policy determine this for P.T.
For P.T., the second question is decisive. Even a broad hardware-compatibility policy cannot recreate a download that is no longer offered through the supported store path.
What happened to P.T. and its download access?
P.T. was removed in 2015
GameSpot reported in May 2015 that P.T. had been removed from PlayStation servers and was no longer downloadable on PS4, including for players who had previously added it to their library. This is the key historical reason that a PS5 owner cannot simply search the Store, select the teaser, and install it.

Konami addressed PS5 redownloading in 2020
In an October 2020 report, GameSpot quoted a statement from Konami supplied to GamesRadar. The statement said: “the content will not be available on the PS Store, so users won’t be able to re-download the content through the backwards compatibility feature to the PS5.” No individual spokesperson was named, so the statement should be attributed to Konami rather than to a particular executive.
What those dates mean in 2026
The 2015 report establishes the delisting history, while the 2020 statement directly addresses the PS5 redownload route. Together, they support a narrow but clear conclusion: ordinary PS5 backward compatibility does not provide a supported way to obtain P.T. Neither source is a current measurement of every possible technical edge case, and neither guarantees that a copy retained on another console will transfer or launch on PS5.
How the usual access routes compare
| Attempted route | What the available evidence establishes | Practical reading |
|---|---|---|
| Search the PS5 PlayStation Store | P.T. is not available through the Store. | No normal PS5 download. |
| Re-download from a PS5 digital library | Konami said users would not be able to re-download it through PS5 backward compatibility. | The supported library-redownload path is unavailable. |
| Rely on PS5’s general PS4 compatibility | PS5 supports the overwhelming majority of PS4 games, but PlayStation’s guidance excludes demos from the PS4-only list and says most legacy demos and betas would not be playable. | The broad percentage does not establish P.T. support. |
| Keep an existing PS4 installation | The cited PS5 statement rules out the normal redownload route, but does not verify every case involving a retained PS4 installation. | Do not assume the installation can be transferred or launched on PS5. |
| Buy a secondhand console advertised with P.T. | The cited sources do not verify individual listings or guarantee that access remains usable. | Not a dependable, assured consumer path. |
| Use a modified console or unofficial download | The available evidence does not establish these methods as supported, reliable, or appropriate. | Outside the documented options described here. |
If P.T. is already installed on a PS4
An existing PS4 installation is a different situation from downloading P.T. on a new PS5. The available statement from Konami specifically rules out re-downloading the content through PS5 backward compatibility; it does not test every edge case involving a copy that remains installed on a PS4.
For that reason, separate these decisions:
Using the PS4 as the original platform
If you already possess a PS4 with P.T. installed, keeping that console as the platform for the installation is distinct from obtaining P.T. on PS5. The evidence here does not promise that every retained installation will continue to launch indefinitely, but it also does not establish that a retained copy is automatically converted into a PS5 copy.
Moving the installation to PS5
Do not treat a system transfer, cloud library, external drive, or account history as a confirmed way to make P.T. playable on PS5. The documented PS5 route is a Store or backward-compatibility redownload, and Konami said that route would not be available for this content.

Deleting the PS4 copy
Because P.T. is delisted and the normal redownload route is unavailable, deleting an existing installation could remove an access path you currently have. The sources do not provide a restoration procedure, so avoid assuming that the title can be recovered later from the library.
Why buying accessories or another PS5 will not solve it
Readers sometimes look for a hardware fix: a larger SSD, a different PS5 edition, a new controller, or a second console. None of those changes the publisher’s Store decision. Storage can hold software that you are allowed to download; it cannot make a delisted title appear in the Store. A controller changes input, not licensing or backward-compatibility availability.
The same reasoning applies to purchasing another PS5. A second unit uses the same PS5 Store and supported compatibility framework, so it does not create a separate official download channel for P.T. The restriction is title-specific rather than a performance problem with one particular console.
Should you buy a used console advertised as containing P.T.?
Listings for secondhand consoles may claim that P.T. is installed. The sources available for this question do not verify those listings, the condition of the installation, the seller’s account status, or whether the software will remain usable after a reset or account change.
That makes such a purchase materially different from buying a normal, supported PS4 or PS5 game. You would be relying on an unverified listing rather than on a current Store entitlement. A seller’s photograph or description is not evidence that the installation can be transferred to your account or re-downloaded if it disappears.

If your goal is a reliable PS5 library, do not count an advertised used console as an assured way to obtain P.T. It may be a private, unverified transaction, not an ordinary compatibility option.
What about unofficial workarounds?
Modified consoles, unofficial package files, account-transfer tricks, and fan-made downloads are frequently discussed around delisted software. The evidence supplied for this question does not verify any of those methods as supported, reliable, or appropriate consumer solutions. They can also involve account, security, legal, or hardware risks that are outside the documented PlayStation path.
Accordingly, they should not be presented as instructions for playing P.T. on PS5. The supported conclusion remains limited to the Store and backward-compatibility route: that route does not provide the title.

“PS5 plays 99 percent of PS4 games, so P.T. must work.”
The more-than-99-percent figure came from Sony’s November 2020 launch-era FAQ and referred to more than 4,000 PS4 games. It was not a guarantee for every demo or delisted application. PlayStation separately warned that most legacy PS4 demos and betas would not be playable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors“I owned P.T., so it should be in my PS5 library.”
Ownership history does not override the publisher’s stated redownload restriction. GameSpot’s 2015 report said P.T. was no longer downloadable even for people who had previously added it to their PS4 library, and Konami later said it would not be available for PS5 backward-compatibility redownload.

“A bigger drive will let me install it.”
Drive capacity matters only after you have an authorized installation package. It cannot restore a removed Store listing or create a new PS5 entitlement.
“A used console with P.T. is the same as buying the game.”
It is not the same. The cited sources do not verify secondhand listings or promise that their installations survive a reset, account change, or other ownership transition.
What you can realistically do
- If you want P.T. specifically: understand that the normal PS5 download and backward-compatibility redownload route is unavailable.
- If you already have a PS4 installation: treat that PS4 as a separate environment. Do not assume a PS5 transfer or re-download will work.
- If you are shopping for a console: do not buy a PS5, storage device, or accessory expecting it to unlock P.T.
- If you see a secondhand listing: regard the claim as unverified rather than as a guaranteed source of access.
- If you consider unofficial methods: recognize that they are not established by the cited evidence as supported or reliable options.
P.T. versus other horror experiences
Other horror games, playable teasers, and fan recreations may be available on current consoles, but they are separate products. Availability of a similar experience does not make P.T. itself downloadable or backward-compatible on PS5. If a listing or video uses “P.T.” loosely to describe a different game, check the exact title and publisher before assuming it is the original teaser.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The practical verdict
Is P.T. playable on PS5? Not through the normal supported route. P.T. was delisted, and Konami said PS5 users would not be able to re-download it through backward compatibility. Sony’s broad PS4 compatibility figures do not override that title-specific restriction, especially because PlayStation’s guidance treats demos and betas separately. An existing PS4 installation, an unverified secondhand console, or an unofficial workaround should not be presented as a standard PS5 solution.
