The available sources do not confirm that NTT DATA is in advanced talks to build a data center for Anthropic in Osaka, or that such a project would reach 500 MW or cost $6.3 billion. Those figures appear in a separate report about a possible Mubadala-backed project in Akita. NTT DATA’s reported capacity expansion is a third, company-wide plan—not evidence of either facility.

What is confirmed about the Osaka claim?

The claim combines a company, a prospective tenant, a location, a capacity and a price, but the sources available for this article do not verify that combination. They do not establish advanced talks between NTT DATA and Anthropic, a new Osaka facility, a 500 MW capacity, a $6.3 billion cost or a construction timetable.

That is not proof that private discussions do not exist. It means the project details should not be stated as fact based on the sources reviewed. NTT Group’s May 8, 2026 financial-results release provides general data-center business context, but the available excerpt does not confirm the alleged Osaka project (NTT Group financial results release).

Where do the 500 MW and $6.3 billion figures come from?

Arizton’s Japan data center market report, published in January 2026 and refreshed in September 2026, associates 500 MW and up to ¥1 trillion—reported as approximately $6.3 billion—with a possible Mubadala investment in an AI data center project in Akita Prefecture. The report describes an investment under consideration, not a confirmed build, final project cost or operating facility (Arizton Japan data center market report).

That distinction matters: the reported location is Akita, the investor under consideration is Mubadala, and the report does not establish Anthropic as a customer. The figures cannot be reassigned to an alleged NTT DATA–Anthropic project in Osaka.

How does NTT DATA’s expansion plan differ?

The same Arizton report separately describes NTT DATA’s plan to invest at least ¥1.5 trillion through 2033, targeting around 1 GW of total data-center capacity by adding about 750 MW. This is a national, company-wide expansion plan as described by a market-report source; it is not a stated capacity or budget for a single Osaka site.

The figures should be attributed to that report.

What does NTT DATA’s Osaka presence tell us?

NTT DATA’s 2025 corporate profile lists Osaka and Kyoto among its Japan locations and describes its data-center portfolio. This establishes regional footprint context. It does not show that NTT DATA is building a new 500 MW Osaka facility or that Anthropic would use one.

What readers can conclude

  • The sources reviewed do not verify the full claim of advanced NTT DATA–Anthropic talks for a 500 MW Osaka data center costing $6.3 billion.
  • The 500 MW and up-to-¥1 trillion (approximately $6.3 billion) figures are tied by Arizton to a possible Mubadala-backed project in Akita, not the alleged Osaka project.
  • NTT DATA’s reported plan to add about 750 MW is a separate company-wide expansion described by the same market-report source.
  • NTT DATA’s listed Osaka presence is not evidence of a new facility, a particular tenant or a deal between the companies.
