Yes—especially at a discount. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered is worth buying if you want an arcade racer built around intense police-versus-racer chases, separate career paths, tactical gadgets, asynchronous friend competition and cross-platform multiplayer. It is a less convincing purchase at full price for anyone expecting a ground-up remake, a major graphical overhaul or a realistic driving simulator. The best platform is usually the one where you already play and where your regional store has the better current offer.
The short verdict
Hot Pursuit Remastered preserves the 2010 game’s strongest idea: you can experience the same high-speed events from both sides of the law. As a racer, you evade roadblocks, helicopters and pursuing police. As a police officer, you deploy equipment to stop illegal street racers. The two-sided solo career gives the package more variety than a conventional racing campaign, while Autolog and crossplay make it suitable for competing with friends on different hardware.
The remaster also bundles the main downloadable content. Electronic Arts says that content adds six hours of gameplay and more than 30 challenges, alongside additional wraps, car colors, photo-mode updates and quality-of-life improvements. The six-hour figure is the publisher’s description rather than an independently timed completion result, but the added events materially improve the value of the base release.
The reservation is technical ambition. A contemporary review praised the driving, content, Autolog and crossplay but characterized the visual update as modest. In other words, this is a polished way to play a strong arcade racer, not a remake designed to showcase a new generation of graphics.

What kind of game is it?
An arcade chase racer, not a simulator
The handling is designed for speed, spectacle and recoverability. Events emphasize aggressive overtakes, shortcuts, pursuit tactics and the moment-to-moment drama of escaping or catching another car. That makes the game approachable with a controller and immediately entertaining in short sessions, but it also means drivers seeking realistic braking distances, tire modeling or a serious motorsport structure should look elsewhere.
Two sides of one career
The single-player progression is split between racers and police. Each side has its own events and objectives, so finishing one branch does not simply repeat the other with a different car. Racers focus on reaching the finish while managing pursuit pressure; police focus on intercepting targets and using enforcement tools effectively. Electronic Arts describes the PlayStation release as having “a deep and fully-defined single-player career” covering both cops and racers, with multiplayer linked across the race modes (official PlayStation listing).
Equipment gives pursuits their identity
Police and racers can use tactical equipment during events. These tools turn a race into a moving confrontation: positioning, timing and choosing when to spend an ability can matter as much as raw top speed. If you prefer clean laps with no interference, the pursuit structure may feel chaotic. If you enjoy creating and escaping traffic disasters, it is the central attraction.

Included downloadable content
The remaster packages the principal post-launch content instead of making buyers assemble the original release and its add-ons separately. EA and the platform listings describe six additional hours of gameplay and more than 30 challenges, plus extra customization options and updates to photo mode. Treat those numbers as EA’s product description, not as a universal measure of how long every player will take to finish the content.

Modern platform features
The major functional upgrade is cross-platform play. The PC manual explains that EA’s crossplay system allows players to compete with people on all available platforms through Autolog or online multiplayer (EA PC manual). That is more consequential than a modest texture or lighting improvement because it expands the pool of friends you can play with.
A restrained visual refresh
The remaster improves presentation and usability, but the available 2020 review evidence does not support calling it a ground-up remake. MeriStation’s November 4, 2020 review praised the content and racing while describing the technical update as modest (MeriStation review). Set expectations accordingly: you are buying the definitive, more accessible version of a proven arcade racer, not a new-generation reinterpretation.
PC, PlayStation and Xbox compared
| Platform | Edition and current-generation access | Performance evidence available | Online considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC | Steam edition of the remaster | A current, source-backed PC frame-rate profile is not stated in the cited listings. | Crossplay and EA Friends support are described in the EA manual. |
| PlayStation | PS4 release playable on PS5; PlayStation warns that some PS4 features may be absent on PS5. | The 2020 review reported 1080p/60 on PS4 Pro as one option and 4K/30 as another; base PS4 was reported at 1080p/30. | Cross-platform play is supported; verify the PS5 feature caveat before purchasing. |
| Xbox | Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S editions are listed as supported. | The 2020 review reported 1080p/60 or 4K/30 on Xbox One X; base Xbox One was reported at 1080p/30. | Xbox console online multiplayer requires an eligible Game Pass subscription according to the store listing. |
The performance figures in the table come from a 2020 review and describe its tested console modes. They are not a current, comprehensive comparison of PC, PS5 and Xbox Series versions. Do not use them as a promise that every modern display, patch or console configuration will behave identically.
Is Hot Pursuit Remastered worth buying on PC?
Why PC makes sense
PC is a good choice when your friends are split across platforms or when you prefer playing through Steam. Crossplay means you do not need to buy the same hardware as everyone else, and the game’s arcade design works well with either a controller or keyboard controls. The Steam page is the relevant place to check your local price, system requirements and current availability (Steam listing).

What the evidence does not establish
The supplied platform information does not provide a current PC benchmark, frame-rate ceiling or settings guide. Avoid buying on the assumption that a particular resolution or refresh rate is guaranteed. Check the live Steam listing and your own hardware compatibility before purchase, particularly if you are targeting ultrawide resolutions, very high refresh rates or older integrated graphics.
PC buying advice
- Confirm that the Steam edition is available in your region and check the live price rather than relying on an old sale screenshot.
- Plan to use an EA account for crossplay and EA Friends features.
- Choose PC for flexibility and storefront preference, not because the available evidence proves it is the best-performing version.
Is Hot Pursuit Remastered worth it on PS5?
How PS5 access works
PlayStation lists the game as a PS4 release playable on PS5. It is not described in the supplied evidence as a separate native PS5 version. PlayStation also warns that some PS4 features may be absent when the game is played on PS5, so check the current product page and the feature details shown for your account before buying (PlayStation product page).
Who should choose it on PlayStation?
It is a sensible purchase for PlayStation players who want the convenience of backward compatibility and already have friends using crossplay-enabled versions elsewhere. The PS4 Pro performance options reported by the 2020 review—1080p at 60 frames per second or 4K at 30—may help explain the original console design, but they should not be presented as a complete PS5 performance specification.

- Confirm whether the PS5 feature caveat affects a mode or function you care about.
- Check whether you are buying a digital PS4 license or a physical copy and whether your console supports that format.
- Compare the current PlayStation price with other platforms only on the same date; store pricing changes independently.
Is Hot Pursuit Remastered worth it on Xbox?
Xbox One and Series X|S support
The Xbox store lists support for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. That makes Xbox the clearest choice for players who want an edition explicitly listed across both console generations (Xbox store listing).
Rank #4
- Cross-Platform Multiplayer and Autolog - Bolt down the winding Seacrest County roads headfirst in racing that is socially competitive at its core.
- All Main DLC Included, Plus More Updates - Get all main DLC delivered at launch including an extra six hours of gameplay and more than 30 challenges.
- Exotic Cars with Weapons - Drive the world’s most desirable supercars on both sides of the law.
- Chase and Escape - A deep and fully-defined single-player career delivers the action of both cops and racers.
- Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered delivers a timeless racing experience updated for today's generation of Hardware with enhanced visuals
Online subscription requirement
The Xbox listing says console online multiplayer requires an eligible Game Pass subscription. This requirement applies to online play; it does not change the value of the single-player career. Include the subscription cost in your decision if multiplayer is the main reason you are buying.
Sale pricing is temporary
An Xbox US storefront snapshot checked on October 13, 2026 showed a sale price of $7.99, reduced from $39.99, with the sale scheduled to end three days later. That was a volatile regional promotion, not a permanent price or a guarantee for another country. Check the live Xbox page before purchase.
How crossplay and EA Friends work
Crossplay is the remaster’s most important modernization because it lets players on different supported platforms meet in Autolog and online multiplayer. EA’s manual says crossplay can be enabled at first launch or changed later in privacy settings. Friends from other platforms are managed through EA Friends using EA IDs.
- Enable crossplay when prompted. On first launch, accept the crossplay option if you want matchmaking and friend competition across platforms.
- Change the setting later if necessary. If you skipped the prompt, open the game’s privacy settings and review the crossplay option.
- Exchange EA IDs. Cross-platform friends are handled through EA Friends rather than only through your console or Steam friend list.
- Use Autolog for asynchronous competition. Autolog compares friends’ event performances, so you can challenge records even when nobody is online at the same time.
- Use online multiplayer for live races. Crossplay applies to the supported online modes described by EA; platform availability and subscription rules still apply.
If a friend does not appear, first check that both players are using the correct EA ID and that crossplay is enabled. Then verify the platform’s online-service access requirements. Do not assume that a console friend-list invitation alone replaces the EA Friends connection.
Best Value
- Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit contains 1-8 player online support as well as leaderboards
- Play as either cops and racers in both a tremendously deep, fully-defined single player career and a groundbreaking multiplayer experience across all race modes
- The Need For Speed Autolog system connects friends directly to each other's games, enabling them to compare and share all their experiences and challenges
- Whether taking down suspects with a variety of cop weapons or using evasion equipment to outsmart the cops, players will always have a method for gaining an edge over their opponent
- Feel the power of busting suspects in supercharged cop interceptors like the Lamborghini Reventon or outsmarting the law as a racer in high performance supercars like the Pagani Zonda Cinque
Does Hot Pursuit Remastered run at 60 fps?
There is a qualified yes for some of the older enhanced consoles, but not a universal yes for every platform and mode. MeriStation’s 2020 review reported these console targets:
| Hardware tested in the review | Reported modes |
|---|---|
| PS4 Pro | 1080p at 60 fps or 4K at 30 fps |
| Xbox One X | 1080p at 60 fps or 4K at 30 fps |
| Base PS4 | 1080p at 30 fps |
| Base Xbox One | 1080p at 30 fps |
Those are review-era observations, not a current specification for every PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC configuration. The evidence also does not establish a complete set of current-generation graphics modes. If 60 fps is your deciding factor, read the current platform listing and look for an in-game performance option after installation rather than treating the older review as a blanket guarantee.
Price, ownership and long-term value
Use the live regional storefront
Digital prices, discounts and sale end dates vary by country and can change within days. The Xbox US promotion above and a Steam localized listing showing €29.99 on October 13, 2026 are snapshots only. They should help you recognize a discount, not serve as a permanent price guide.

Compare like with like
Before deciding, compare the same format across platforms: digital against digital, or physical against physical. Confirm whether the listing includes the remaster’s bundled DLC, whether a physical copy is available in your region and whether you need a subscription for online console play. A cheap base price can be less attractive if your preferred multiplayer platform adds an ongoing access requirement.
Online population is not guaranteed
No verified current concurrent-player figure is established by the cited sources. Crossplay reduces hardware fragmentation, but it does not guarantee instant matchmaking at every hour. Buy the game for its complete solo career and friend-based competition first; treat public matchmaking activity as a variable rather than a promised service level.
Who should buy it?
Strong match
- You want fast, forgiving arcade driving rather than simulation physics.
- You enjoy switching between the racer and police roles.
- Your friends use different platforms and you value crossplay.
- You missed the original release and want its main DLC included.
- You can buy it during a substantial regional sale.
Weak match
- You expect a full remake with modern-generation visual technology.
- You want a detailed motorsport career, realistic tire behavior or licensed-racing authenticity.
- You need a guaranteed large public online population.
- You are buying solely for a specific PS5, Xbox Series or PC frame-rate mode that the available listings do not explicitly promise.
A practical buying decision
- Define your priority. If it is chase gameplay, the remaster’s design is a good fit. If it is technical spectacle, lower your expectations.
- Choose the platform where your friends already play. Crossplay helps, but the platform’s own online requirements and storefront rules still matter.
- Check the current regional listing. Prices and sale dates are volatile, and the same game can cost very different amounts on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
- Confirm access on your console. PS5 uses the PS4 release and carries a PlayStation feature caveat; Xbox lists Xbox One and Series X|S support.
- Buy at the right price. A deep discount makes the modest remaster work easier to justify; at a higher price, make sure the bundled DLC and crossplay are valuable to you.
Bottom line
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered is worth buying as a discounted arcade-racing package, particularly for players who want a two-sided career and friends on different platforms. PC, PlayStation and Xbox offer broadly the same core experience, so storefront price, your existing hardware and your friends’ platforms should decide the purchase. Choose it for the chases, equipment, Autolog, crossplay and included DLC—not for a dramatic remake-level visual upgrade.
