LifeLock can be worth paying for if you want its mix of identity monitoring and access to restoration specialists, and your plan covers the accounts or risks you care about. It is less compelling if your main goal is to make it harder for someone to open new credit in your name: the Federal Trade Commission says credit freezes are free to place and lift.
Judge the subscription by the renewal price and the features you expect to use—not by the largest reimbursement figure. LifeLock’s listed U.S. individual annual first-year prices were $124.99 for Core, $199.99 for Advanced, and $349.99 for Total when checked October 7, 2026. Offers and plan details can change, so verify the price and terms at checkout.
What LifeLock costs and what the tiers offer
LifeLock lists annual and monthly individual plans. Its annual prices below are first-year prices observed on October 7, 2026; the vendor says annual plans renew at the listed annual rate. It also advertises a 60-day money-back guarantee for annual plans. Check the offer, renewal amount, and guarantee terms at checkout. LifeLock plan details
| Plan | First-year annual price | Monthly price | Account alerts | Maximum identity-theft reimbursement package |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Core | $124.99 | $12.49 | Up to 2 accounts | Up to $1.05 million |
| Advanced | $199.99 | $19.99 | Up to 5 accounts | Up to $1.2 million |
| Total | $349.99 | $34.99 | Unlimited account alerts | Up to $3 million |
The reimbursement figures are plan maxima, not guarantees that every loss is covered. Review the applicable policy terms and exclusions before treating the amount as a reason to buy.

Which features could justify the cost?
Value depends on whether a plan includes monitoring you want and whether you would use its recovery support. LifeLock’s plan comparison includes differences in account-alert limits and reimbursement maxima; consider these alongside the specific monitoring and support features shown for the plan at checkout.
- Would you use alerts across several financial accounts, or is a lower account limit sufficient?
- Do you want monitoring such as three-bureau credit monitoring, investment or home-title alerts, or data-broker removal? Confirm that the tier you are considering includes the feature.
- Would access to identity-restoration specialists be useful if you had to contact creditors or take other recovery steps?
- Do the plan’s reimbursement categories, exclusions, and renewal terms fit your expectations?
Do not assume that a large reimbursement maximum makes you whole after any kind of fraud. The FTC says identity-theft insurance may cover certain recovery expenses, lost wages, or legal fees, but generally does not reimburse money stolen by scammers. Coverage depends on the policy language. FTC guidance on identity-theft protection services
What monitoring and recovery services cannot do
Identity monitoring checks certain databases, but it does not catch every form of identity theft. The FTC notes that monitoring typically will not alert you to some tax-return or government-benefit fraud. It should not replace reviewing bank and card activity or taking action when you spot a problem.

Free credit freezes are the baseline for new-credit protection
A credit freeze is free to place and lift, does not affect your credit score, and can help prevent new credit accounts from being opened in your name. You must contact all three nationwide credit bureaus to place one. A freeze does not monitor existing bank activity, so it is not a substitute for checking financial statements or for identity-restoration assistance.

- Find the renewal amount. Compare the price you will actually pay after the introductory period, not just the first-year offer.
- Identify the features you will use. Match account-alert limits, monitoring scope, and restoration access to your needs; disregard features that do not matter to you.
- Read the coverage terms. Check what the reimbursement package covers, what it excludes, and the conditions for making a claim.
- Set the free baseline. Consider free credit freezes and reports, and keep checking bank and card statements. A freeze restricts access to credit reports for new credit applications, but does not provide monitoring of existing accounts or restoration help.
- Compare like with like. If evaluating other paid services, compare renewal price, people and accounts covered, credit bureaus monitored, alert scope, restoration support, reimbursement exclusions, and cancellation or refund terms. LifeLock’s own provider comparison is vendor-authored and gives pricing as of March 2026, so verify current terms directly with each provider. LifeLock comparison information
LifeLock is most likely to feel worthwhile when the plan’s ongoing price buys monitoring breadth and recovery support you specifically value. If your priority is only reducing the chance of new-credit fraud, start with free freezes and decide whether the remaining paid features are worth the renewal cost.
