Yes—if you want a large, character-focused LEGO display and enjoy a several-hour sculpture build. The set is a weaker choice if you need a compact model, frequent hands-on play, or maximum pose flexibility. Its value depends on your local price, available shelf space, and how much you want Pikachu specifically, rather than on the piece count alone.

What LEGO set 72152 includes

LEGO Pokémon Pikachu and Poké Ball (set 72152) is an 18+ display model with 2,050 pieces. It combines a large Pikachu figure, a Poké Ball that can be shown open or closed, and a lightning-bolt support that creates a leaping presentation. The base includes the number 25, Pikachu’s Pokédex number.

This is the first LEGO Pokémon wave. The LEGO Group announced the first sets on 12 January 2026, with the sets launching on 27 February 2026. The announcement describes the partnership as an effort to combine LEGO building with Pokémon’s creativity and adventure; LEGO Group Chief Product & Marketing Officer Julia Goldin said, “Bringing the world of Pokémon to life in LEGO bricks is both an exciting opportunity and a great responsibility.” You can read the full announcement on GlobeNewswire.

How long does LEGO Pikachu and Poké Ball take to build?

Allow roughly four to six hours for a relaxed build. GamesRadar gives a four-to-six-hour estimate and says its reviewer took somewhere between four and five hours, working in approximately one-hour sessions. Brickset’s reviewer completed the model in one evening. Those are individual review experiences, not a LEGO guarantee or a measured average for all builders.

What the 16 bags are doing

Brickset describes a clear progression through the numbered bags:

  1. Bags 1–9: the Pikachu figure, including its internal structure and exterior shaping.
  2. Short interlude: the Poké Ball section.
  3. Bags 10–16: the substantial display stand that supports the suspended action pose.

The stand is not an optional base added after the character. It is the engineering element that makes the upward launch presentation possible, so the build becomes more substantial again after Pikachu and the ball are assembled.

Is the build difficult?

The construction is generally straightforward, but the experience is more methodical than fast. GamesRadar found the large amount of yellow somewhat mellow and occasionally monotonous, with a few moments where instruction interpretation required extra attention. Brickset praised the building techniques and the colorful internal structure. Expect repeated shaping and checking rather than a sequence of complex mechanical functions.

If you prefer short projects, divide the build into the same broad stages used by the bag layout: Pikachu first, the ball next, and the stand last. A relaxed evening is realistic for an experienced builder, while a first-time adult builder may prefer several sessions with space to leave the unfinished model undisturbed.

How the two display configurations work

Battle or launch stance

In the primary presentation, Pikachu appears to leap upward from an open Poké Ball. The lightning-bolt stand supplies the visual motion and keeps the character elevated above the base. This is the most dramatic configuration and the one that makes the set read immediately as a Pokémon centerpiece rather than a conventional seated figure.

Resting pose with a closed ball

The alternate presentation places Pikachu on the lightning-bolt stand while the Poké Ball is closed. Brickset and GamesRadar both explain that changing between open and closed displays is a small rebuild: the two ball halves use different connecting elements. The ball is therefore a display transformation, not a conventional hinged lid that opens and closes in seconds.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When changing configurations, support the ball halves and the nearby stand rather than pulling on Pikachu’s limbs. Keep the removed connecting elements in a labeled container so the alternate configuration can be restored without searching through spare parts.

How big is set 72152, and will it fit your shelf?

LEGO lists the finished model at over 35 cm high, 26 cm wide and 39 cm deep. The product page also shows rounded imperial labels of approximately 14 inches high, 11 inches wide and 16 inches deep. Because the metric and inch values are rounded separately, use the metric specification for planning and measure your own shelf before buying.

Clearance checklist

  • Depth: reserve at least 39 cm, and leave additional room if the shelf has a front lip or if you need to reach behind the stand.
  • Height: check more than 35 cm of vertical clearance, especially under a cabinet shelf or a low overhang.
  • Width: allow at least 26 cm, with side clearance so the ears and tail are not close to neighboring objects.
  • Viewing distance: make sure the lightning-bolt stand and the open ball are visible from the position where people normally enter the room.
  • Stability: use a level, rigid surface; the model is designed as a display sculpture rather than something to move repeatedly.

The full footprint includes the stand and the visual effects, not just the spherical ball. A shelf that fits a 26 cm-wide figure may still feel cramped if it cannot accommodate the 39 cm depth of the complete presentation.

What the finished model looks like from different angles

The upward-facing head

Brickset notes that Pikachu’s head is locked looking upward. That fixed direction reinforces the launch pose, but it limits placement flexibility. On a high shelf, viewers may see more of the underside of the face than intended; in a low display position, the upward gaze can work well. Choose the shelf based on the finished pose, not only on the model’s dimensions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Movable parts and handling

GamesRadar reports that the ears and limbs can move and that the tail has limited articulation. The same review describes its own example as fragile during repositioning. Brickset also treats the model as a designed pose rather than a broadly articulated action figure. These are reviewer observations, not an independently established defect rate, so they should shape handling expectations rather than be read as a guarantee that every copy will fail in the same way.

For routine display, set the pose once and avoid repeatedly lifting Pikachu by an ear, limb or tail. If you need to move the model, support the body and the stand together. Recheck connections after dusting or after converting between the two Poké Ball presentations.

What the build experience is like in detail

Pikachu’s internal structure

The first nine bags create a sizeable internal framework before the yellow outer surfaces are complete. Brickset specifically praises the colorful interior, which gives the repetitive exterior work a structural purpose. You see more varied colors and techniques inside than the finished yellow silhouette suggests.

The Poké Ball section

The ball is a relatively short section compared with Pikachu and the stand. Its two halves are built to support two different display arrangements, which explains why the finished object does not behave like a single permanently hinged shell.

The lightning-bolt stand

Bags 10 through 16 form the substantial support. The stand’s horizontal black surfaces help create the display effect, but Brickset points out that they also attract dust. The stand is the engineering and visual centerpiece that turns the figure into a suspended action scene, so it deserves the same care as the character itself.

Instruction pace

GamesRadar’s comments about occasional instruction interpretation challenges are useful if you are planning a first build. Work under bright, even light, keep bags and loose parts separated, and rotate the model to confirm orientation before pressing a section firmly into place. These habits reduce the chance of having to dismantle a large yellow section later.

Is the launch price good value?

Launch-era coverage cites $199.99 in the United States, £179.99 in the United Kingdom and €199.99 in the euro area. Those figures describe the launch context around the 2026 release; they are not a current price promise. Retail discounts, stock, taxes and regional pricing can change the amount you would actually pay.

A 2,050-piece count is useful context but does not by itself prove value. Large character elements, internal support, the display stand and the engineering needed for the suspended pose all contribute to the model. Compare the current local price with the following questions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Would you still want the model if Pikachu were the only character represented?
  • Will the finished model have a permanent display location?
  • Do you enjoy a four-to-six-hour sculpture build, including repeated yellow shaping?
  • Are you comfortable treating the ball as a rebuildable display option rather than a play feature?
  • Does the upward-facing head suit the shelf or cabinet where you plan to place it?

If your answer is yes to most of these, the set’s value comes from the combined character recognition, scale, building experience and display story. If your priority is the largest number of moving functions for the money, a highly articulated figure or a smaller play-oriented set may fit better, even if its piece count is lower.

Who should buy it?

Strong match

  • Pikachu fans: the model gives the character most of the visual attention and adds recognizable details such as the lightning effects and the “25” base marking.
  • Adult LEGO collectors: the 18+ designation, large footprint and multi-stage construction suit a display collection.
  • Centerpiece hunters: the open-ball launch stance has more visual impact than a small static character model.
  • Builders who enjoy sculpture: the internal structure, shaping and stand construction provide more than a simple mascot build.

Weak match

  • Small-space buyers: a 39 cm depth requirement is significant for a bookcase, desk or shallow wall shelf.
  • Frequent-handling users: the pose is designed to be set and displayed, not repeatedly reconfigured or played with.
  • Articulation-focused collectors: the head is fixed upward and the available movement is limited.
  • Budget-first shoppers: launch pricing was premium, and current value depends on the price in your market rather than on the headline piece count.
  • People who dislike repetitive builds: the yellow exterior can feel monotonous during portions of the construction.

A practical buying decision framework

Question If the answer is yes If the answer is no
Do you have more than 35 cm of height and 39 cm of depth? The full launch display is physically realistic. Measure another location or choose a smaller model.
Is Pikachu the main character you want to display? The set’s single-character focus is an advantage. You may prefer a multi-character collection.
Do you enjoy a four-to-six-hour build? The project length should feel substantial rather than burdensome. Expect the build to feel long and repetitive.
Will you mostly look at the model after building? The fixed pose and display stand make sense. Limited articulation and rebuild-based ball changes may disappoint.
Is the current local price within your display budget? Judge value by the character, scale and experience together. Wait for a discount or reassess the purchase.
Does your viewing angle work with an upward-looking head? The intended pose should read clearly from the room. Choose a lower or more open location, or skip it.

Display, dust and long-term care

Brickset observes that the stand’s horizontal black surfaces collect dust. An enclosed cabinet can reduce cleaning, but a special display case is not required. If the model is on an open shelf, use a soft, dry brush or gentle air to remove dust without catching the ears, tail or lightning-bolt edges.

Keep the model away from direct sunlight and areas with frequent knocks, such as a narrow hallway shelf. When moving it, hold the base and support the figure rather than carrying it by the ball or a projecting body part. If you switch configurations, keep the alternate connector with the instructions or in a small labeled bag.

Because the head’s direction and the stand’s geometry are intentional parts of the composition, avoid treating the completed model like a poseable action figure. A stable permanent arrangement will usually look better and require less maintenance than repeated adjustments.

Bottom line: is it worth buying?

LEGO Pokémon Pikachu and Poké Ball 72152 is worth buying when your priority is a substantial Pikachu centerpiece and a satisfying adult build. Its strongest features are the recognizable launch scene, the two display presentations, the colorful structural techniques and the scale that makes it a room-visible collectible.

Buy with caution if your shelf is shallow, your budget is tight, or you expect a highly articulated model that can be handled often. Check the current price in your country, measure at least 35 cm of height and 39 cm of depth, and decide whether the upward-facing head suits your viewing angle. Those practical checks matter more than assuming that 2,050 pieces automatically make the set a bargain.
