No official announcement promises Kratos will return in 2029 or says a future God of War game will launch on PlayStation 6. PlayStation has announced God of War Laufey, a Faye-led game for PS5, and Santa Monica Studio has confirmed a remake of the original Greek trilogy. Separately, GamesRadar+ reports that Cory Barlog described a Kratos-led game connected to Laufey—but no title, release window, or platform has been announced for that project.
Is Kratos coming back in 2029?
There is no confirmed 2029 release date for Kratos’ return. The official announcements from PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio do not give that date, and the reported remarks about a future Kratos-led game provide no launch window. The claim that a roadmap promises a 2029 return is therefore unsupported by the available announcements.

Will the next God of War be on PS6?
No platform has been announced for the reported future Kratos-led game. In particular, the report does not name PS6. PlayStation’s announced God of War Laufey is coming to PS5, but that is a different, Faye-led game. Do not treat a possible future console generation as confirmed.
What has been announced about the next God of War games?
| Project | What is confirmed | Platform and timing |
|---|---|---|
| God of War Laufey | The announced next chapter centers on Faye, also known as Laufey. | PS5; PlayStation’s franchise page lists February 16, 2027. |
| Original Greek trilogy remake | Santa Monica Studio has confirmed the remake is in development and says it is very early in development. | The cited announcement gives no release date or platform. |
| Future Kratos-led game | GamesRadar+ reports that creative lead Cory Barlog described a Kratos-led game that directly connects to the events of Laufey. | No title, estimated release window, or target platforms are given in the report. |
PlayStation’s announcement of God of War Laufey identifies its protagonist and PS5 platform. Its franchise catalog lists the February 16, 2027 date. Santa Monica Studio’s trilogy-remake announcement says the project is very early in development and asks for patience before further details.

What did Cory Barlog reportedly say?
GamesRadar+ reported remarks by Santa Monica Studio creative lead Cory Barlog at a San Diego Comic-Con panel: “Kratos is in another game immediately after this [that] directly connects to the events of the Laufey game, but don’t say anything about it to anyone,” he quips. That is a report of a panel remark, not a release-date or platform announcement. The article does not identify a title, launch window, or target platform for the Kratos-led game. Read the GamesRadar+ report in that context.
