Kingston FURY and HyperX are no longer competing brands for the same products. Kingston moved its gaming memory line to Kingston FURY in 2021, while HP acquired HyperX’s gaming division that year. Today, Kingston FURY is the relevant lane for memory upgrades; HyperX’s catalog focuses on gaming gear such as headsets, keyboards, and mice. The right choice depends on what you are buying and whether it fits your system.
Is HyperX still Kingston?
No. Kingston announced in February 2021 that it would sell its HyperX gaming division to HP, and HP completed the acquisition on June 1, 2021. HP’s completion announcement confirms the change in ownership.
Kingston announced Kingston FURY on June 1, 2021 as its high-performance, enthusiast, and gaming brand, saying it had rebranded its gaming DRAM, flash, and SSD line. That made FURY the relevant Kingston family for gaming memory rather than a continuation of HyperX-branded Kingston memory. Kingston’s announcement describes the launch.
HyperX remains a gaming brand under HP. Its About page describes its gaming-product focus, while its current catalog lists categories including headsets, keyboards, mice, microphones, and accessories. In January 2026, HyperX also announced that HyperX and OMEN would unite under the HyperX brand, with a broader portfolio that includes gaming computers and displays as well as peripherals. Is Kingston FURY the same as HyperX RAM?
No. Kingston FURY is Kingston’s gaming memory brand; HyperX is now a separate brand owned by HP. The distinction matters when shopping: if you want Kingston gaming memory, look for a current Kingston FURY kit and verify that its specifications match your computer.
Kingston’s 2021 launch announcement named FURY Renegade, Beast, and Impact families. It described Beast as enthusiast and gaming memory and Impact as SO-DIMM memory for laptops and small-form-factor systems. Which one should you choose for gaming?
There is no useful overall winner between the brands because they chiefly serve different needs: Kingston FURY is a memory option, while HyperX’s current catalog is centered on gaming peripherals. Choose by product category and compatibility rather than brand name.

How to check whether a memory kit fits
Memory compatibility depends on the computer, not just the brand or the word “gaming.” Before selecting a Kingston FURY kit, check the following against your motherboard or laptop documentation:
- Generation: Confirm the supported DDR generation. A kit from a different generation will not be a drop-in substitute.
- Form factor: Desktop systems generally use DIMMs; laptops and some small-form-factor systems use SO-DIMMs. Confirm which your device accepts.
- Capacity and kit configuration: Check supported capacity and the number of modules your system can use.
- Speed and profile support: Verify the supported memory speed and any profile required to reach the kit’s advertised settings.
- Platform compatibility: Check the exact motherboard or laptop specifications rather than assuming a product-family label guarantees fit.
The Kingston FURY launch announcement establishes family examples, but it does not establish compatibility with a particular reader’s hardware. Confirm the exact current model against your system before purchasing.

What HyperX’s shipment figures do—and do not—show
HyperX’s current About page reports that the company has shipped more than 20 million gaming headsets, one million keyboards, and one million microphones. The page does not state the year for those cumulative figures, so they should not be read as annual totals or used to infer current sales, reliability, or comparative performance.
