No—treat purported GTA 6 leak sites as untrusted. Looking at a page is not the same as downloading and running a file or connecting a crypto wallet, but recent documented scams have used convincing Rockstar-style pages to deliver information-stealing malware, solicit cryptocurrency, or prompt risky wallet approvals. Get announcements and downloads through Rockstar’s official channels and authorized stores, not alleged leak pages.
What can happen when you visit a leak site?
The risk depends on what the particular page does and what you do there. A page view alone is different from running an installer, entering account details, sending cryptocurrency, or approving a wallet transaction. The available reports document specific scam campaigns; they do not establish that every GTA 6-related page behaves the same way or quantify the chance that simply opening a page will infect a device.
- Viewing a page: A polished design, Rockstar logo, or familiar release information does not establish that a site is official. Do not follow its download or payment prompts.
- Downloading and running a file: A fake installer can be malware rather than a game. It may target passwords, browser sessions, and other private data.
- Entering credentials: A page asking for Rockstar or other account details may be phishing. Do not enter them on an unofficial site.
- Paying or connecting a wallet: A crypto payment may be difficult or impossible to recover, and a wallet connection or approval can create a separate financial risk.
What have security researchers found?
Fake demos and information-stealing malware
On August 24, 2026, Malwarebytes reported fake GTA 6 Extended Look and demo pages that copied a genuine Rockstar promotion. Their “Play Now” links led to a file named gta6_installer.exe, which researchers identified as a Vidar information stealer. The analyzed sample searched for saved passwords, session cookies, browsing and download history, autofill and other browser profile data, and FTP credentials. Malwarebytes said it targeted 19 browsers and related products, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi. Its analysis found no persistence mechanism and no visible user-facing window in that sample; those findings apply to the analyzed campaign, not every file or site. Malwarebytes reported on June 23, 2026, that fake early-access offers sought cryptocurrency for a purported pre-release game. The report said the offers were not authorized by Rockstar and warned that crypto transfers generally cannot be reversed. Verify current availability directly through Rockstar and authorized stores rather than relying on an old post or a suspicious page. Read Malwarebytes’ report on fake early-access offers.

In a separate report dated September 1, 2026, Malwarebytes analyzed a fake leaked-copy site that loaded wallet-drainer code. The code profiled connected wallets and could prepare transfers or approvals; consequences depended on the wallet connection and what the user authorized. Why a stolen browser session can outlast a password change
Malwarebytes explains that a stolen session token may let an attacker reuse a logged-in session without repeating the usual sign-in process. Changing the account password alone may not end access if the session remains active. Two-step verification helps protect sign-ins, but it is not a guarantee against session theft. After a suspected compromise, use each service’s controls to sign out everywhere, revoke sessions, or remove unfamiliar devices as well as changing the password. How to avoid fake GTA 6 downloads and offers
- Use Rockstar’s official site or an authorized storefront for announcements and downloads. Copied layouts, logos, search placement, and professional design are not proof of authenticity.
- Do not download or run alleged leak builds, demo installers, or early-access files from unofficial sources.
- Stop if a page pressures you to act quickly, requests cryptocurrency, asks for account credentials, or prompts you to connect a wallet. Verify the offer independently through an official source.
- Keep your operating system, browser, apps, and antimalware software updated. Use unique passwords and enable two-step verification on accounts that support it.
Rockstar’s account-security guidance identifies phishing emails, social engineering, and third-party services that ask for account information as threats. What to do if you ran a suspicious installer
- Stop using the affected device for sensitive logins. From a separate, clean device, change passwords for important accounts, starting with email and accounts that store payment or recovery information. Use unique passwords.
- Revoke active sessions. For each important account, choose its sign-out-everywhere, session-revocation, or device-management option. Remove unfamiliar devices and review recovery methods and authorized apps.
- Scan the affected device. Use a trusted, updated security product to scan it. Keep the operating system and antimalware software updated, and monitor accounts for unfamiliar activity.
- Enable two-step verification. Turn it on for accounts that support it, while still revoking existing sessions because two-step verification does not necessarily end a stolen session.
What to do if you connected a crypto wallet
- Disconnect the site in your wallet or browser.
- Review and revoke permissions granted to the site using the wallet’s or relevant network’s permission controls. Disconnecting alone does not cancel approvals already granted.
- Check assets and activity across the wallet’s networks for unfamiliar transfers or approvals. If you signed a transaction you do not recognize, consult the wallet provider’s official support resources promptly.
