Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is a conditional buy on Nintendo Switch 2. It delivers the toy-car fantasy that fans are looking for: four themed islands, more than 150 collectible vehicles, vehicle customization, a track builder and arcade-style events. The main compromise is technical. Milestone’s stated Switch 2 target is 1080p at 30 frames per second, and multiple platform-tested reviews report long loading screens. One review found a stable 30 fps apart from loading, while others reported stutters, perceived input lag or crashes.
Buy it if collecting cars, exploring the islands, building tracks or playing local and online races matters more to you than instant transitions and a higher frame rate. Wait for patches or choose another platform if smooth frame pacing, minimal loading and consistently responsive controls are your priorities. The recommendation reflects reviews of particular builds; performance can change with updates.
What you actually get
Infinite Rush is an arcade racer organized around four themed islands. Each island contains races and other activities, supports free exploration and ends with a Rush Master boss encounter. Progression is built around unlocking vehicles and completing events rather than following a purely linear championship ladder.
Four vehicle classes
Your garage is divided into four classes: Versatiles, Titans, Drifters and Speeders. The categories suggest different handling identities, so the choice is not simply cosmetic. Cars can also be customized, giving collectors a reason to keep experimenting after an initial unlock.

A large collection, with a qualification
The publisher description on Nintendo’s US product page says, “Discover and collect 150+ vehicles through events, activities, and challenges.” That is Milestone’s listed collection count for the game; it is not an independent audit of every model on every platform or a guarantee that all content is available immediately at launch.
Events beyond ordinary races
In addition to standard races, platform-tested coverage describes time attacks, stunt activities and destruction challenges. These activities give the islands variety, although the amount of variety you feel will depend on how much repetition you tolerate. Nintendo Wire describes the open-world campaign as repetitive, and Final Weapon also found repeated content. What’s It Like? regarded the racing and track creation more favorably but noted that early progression can leave stretches of the world feeling empty between events.
Track Builder and free exploration
The Track Builder lets you create courses with the environment around you rather than limiting construction to a separate menu of isolated pieces. That can extend the game well beyond the campaign for players who enjoy experimenting with layouts and sharing play sessions. It is an accessible creator according to What’s It Like?, but the appeal is still strongest for people who want to make or replay tracks; a buyer looking only for a tightly paced campaign may get less value from it.

How the Switch 2 version is designed to run
A Milestone representative told GamingBolt that the Switch 2 version targets 1080p resolution at 30 fps. Treat that as a technical target or specification statement, not as an independent measurement of every scene. It also means this is not a 60 fps Switch 2 release.

Loading is the most consistent complaint
What’s It Like? describes very long loads when moving between the open world and individual events, while still saying its frame rate stayed locked to the 30 fps target. Final Weapon reports loads averaging about 30 seconds during its playthrough. These are reviewer observations from specific sessions, not a guaranteed load time for every transition or every updated build.

For many players, the practical issue is not a brief pause after a menu selection but the interruption of the game’s loop: explore, enter an event, finish, then wait again before returning to the island. If you prefer short sessions or frequently retry races, that rhythm may become more irritating than the 30 fps figure itself.
Why reports about stutters and crashes conflict
Nintendo Wire reports stutters in some open areas and perceived input lag, and its reviewer was notably negative about the Switch 2 version. Final Weapon says most of its playthrough was fine but records one freeze and two race-start crashes. What’s It Like? reports no additional performance problem beyond loading. The sensible conclusion is not that one outlet is universally right or wrong; it is that the severity of issues varies by review build, location and tolerance, and current patches may alter the result.

If you are highly sensitive to frame pacing or input response, the existence of those reports is enough to justify waiting for clearer post-launch update information.
The local split-screen limit is easy to misread
The same GamingBolt interview explains that the six-car limit applies specifically to local split-screen races. Rendering the world and physics in multiple views is demanding, so the team made compromises to maintain its frame-rate target. The limit is not a six-car cap for every mode. In a split-screen race, the total participating vehicles, including artificial-intelligence opponents, are capped at six.
Modes and player counts
Nintendo’s listing supports one to four players on a single system and two to twelve players online. The listing also says online play is limited to Switch 2 users, so you should not assume cross-generation matchmaking with the older Switch version.

That makes the game a better fit for a household that will actually use local multiplayer or a group that can fill online races. If you plan to play alone, the value rests on the campaign loop, collection and Track Builder rather than on the headline player count.

Digital edition, storage and DLC
Nintendo’s US product page identifies the Switch 2 release as a digital edition with a listed download size of 12.7 GB. Check the live regional eShop listing before buying because available editions, prices and store information can change. The current listing text used for this guide did not provide a reliable base-game price, so a precise dollar recommendation would be misleading.

The standard edition already contains the systems that define the game. Deluxe and Ultimate are content bundles, not separate performance modes, and the available information does not show that either upgrade fixes loading or frame-rate behavior. Compare the exact live regional listing rather than assuming the largest bundle is automatically better value.
What the reviews agree—and where they do not
Three platform-tested reviews provide a useful range of expectations:
- What’s It Like? praises the accessible track creator and describes the 30 fps target as staying locked during its testing, but calls out very long loads and an initially empty-feeling world.
- Nintendo Wire is more critical of the Switch 2 experience, citing repetitive open-world content, handling that can feel mismatched to the open-world format, stutters in some areas and perceived input lag. Its reviewer says docked play did not materially improve the experience.
- Final Weapon praises the core arcade racing while criticizing repetitive content and technical problems. It reports roughly 30-second average loads, one freeze and two race-start crashes during its playthrough.
These are judgments and observations from individual reviews, not controlled measurements conducted under one identical test plan. Their agreement on loading makes that issue the safest expectation. Their disagreement about stutters, input lag and crashes is why a blanket statement such as “the game is broken” or “the game runs perfectly” would overstate the evidence.

Who should buy it
Good fit: collectors and toy-car fans
The strongest reason to buy is the collection loop. More than 150 listed vehicles, four classes, customization and unlocks turn the garage into a long-term project. If identifying a new car, tuning your lineup and completing challenges is inherently satisfying, you may forgive transition waits that would bother a pure racing specialist.
Good fit: creative players
The environment-based Track Builder gives the game a second identity as a construction and replay sandbox. Players who enjoy making layouts, testing shortcuts or inviting friends into locally created races can obtain value that is not visible in a short campaign review.
Good fit: families and local groups, with the cap understood
Up to four players on one system is attractive for a living-room session. Remember that the race simulation still caps the total participating vehicles at six, counting AI. That is a performance compromise, not a contradiction in Nintendo’s player-count listing.
Proceed carefully: players demanding a polished open world
The open-world format is not universally praised. Nintendo Wire calls the campaign repetitive and finds the handling model less convincing in an open setting, while What’s It Like? notes empty stretches early in progression. If you expect a densely populated world where every turn offers a fresh activity, the structure may feel thin.

Thirty frames per second is the stated target, and some reviewers report input lag or stutters. Even if your copy has no crashes, those characteristics can matter in an arcade racer where timing and quick corrections are central. Waiting for update information is rational if frame pacing is more important to you than the Hot Wheels theme.

How to decide before spending money
- Choose your priority. Write down whether your main goal is collecting, creating tracks, local multiplayer, online racing or the campaign. The game serves those goals unevenly; collection and creation are safer reasons to buy than a flawless open-world presentation.
- Check the current regional eShop page. Confirm the live price, edition names, download size and the exact DLC included. The US listing is digital and lists 12.7 GB, but regional storefront details can differ.
- Budget for waiting. Assume that transitions may be long. If you routinely stop playing when a game inserts repeated 20–30-second waits, that is a meaningful negative rather than a minor technical footnote.
- Decide whether 30 fps suits you. The published target is 1080p/30 fps. Do not buy expecting a 60 fps mode unless a later official update explicitly adds one.
- Match multiplayer expectations to the rules. Local play is listed for up to four people, online play for two to twelve Switch 2 users, and local split-screen races cap total vehicles at six including AI.
- Consider your tolerance for unresolved reports. Reviews range from “loading is the main flaw” to accounts of stutters, input lag, a freeze and race-start crashes. If any of those would make a purchase unacceptable, wait for clearer evidence from a patched build.
Switch 2 versus buying on another platform
The available interview information gives other platforms higher stated resolution and frame-rate targets, but the material available here does not include equivalent platform-tested reviews for those versions. That prevents a fair claim that another platform is definitively smoother or faster in practice.

Verdict
Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is worth buying on Nintendo Switch 2 when the Hot Wheels collection, customization, track creation and multiplayer possibilities are the point of the purchase. Those systems provide a substantial arcade racer, and the standard digital edition includes the core experience without requiring a DLC bundle.

It is not the safest recommendation for someone seeking a technically polished, fast-transitioning open-world racer. The 1080p/30 fps target sets a clear ceiling, long loads are the most consistent complaint, and other issues vary from one review to another. For that audience, waiting for patches or checking well-tested alternatives is the better decision. For everyone else, buy with realistic expectations: this is a sizeable toy-car sandbox whose best qualities are collecting and creating, not uncompromised performance.
