HeyPolo is best understood as a family location-sharing and teen-driving safety app—not a full parental-control suite. It offers location sharing with choices about precision and duration, plus features such as arrival alerts, SOS, speed monitoring and crash detection. It is not documented as providing website filtering, app blocking or screen-time limits.
What HeyPolo does
HeyPolo’s product materials describe a shared family location service. People can share an exact location or an approximate area, set recurring sharing schedules, grant temporary access in an emergency, or use private mode while remaining in a group. The company also lists arrival alerts and SOS features. These are descriptions from HeyPolo, not results of independent testing. For teen drivers, HeyPolo lists speed monitoring, phone-use-while-driving detection, crash detection and a Driving Safety Score. These functions may help a family discuss driving and coordinate, but they should not be treated as a substitute for emergency services.

No—not in the broader sense many families mean by parental controls. HeyPolo says it is not a parental monitoring app, and TechRadar characterizes its scope as limited to location tracking. Its materials do not document website filtering, app blocking, social-media monitoring or screen-time management. If your priority is knowing when a family member arrives or sharing location by agreement, that scope may fit. If you need rules that restrict websites, apps or device time, compare products specifically offering those controls. How location sharing and consent work
The U.S. App Store listing says people using iPhone and Android can join the same group, with each participant controlling what they share, its precision and duration. HeyPolo’s approach puts control over sharing settings at the center: exact or approximate location, scheduled or temporary sharing, and a private mode. For a parent and teen, that creates a practical trade-off. Location sharing can support coordination when everyone understands and agrees to it; it is different from monitoring or restricting device use. Agree on who can see location, when sharing is expected, and what happens when someone switches it off.

HeyPolo says it does not sell or exploit user data. That is the company’s stated policy, not an independently verified finding: the reviewed sources do not provide a HeyPolo-specific independent privacy audit. Before adopting any location-sharing app, read its current privacy policy and the privacy disclosures supplied by the relevant app store.

Safety limits parents should understand
HeyPolo’s Terms of Service define alerts as informational rather than emergency response. The terms say, “The purpose of the Service is to provide informational alerts; it is not a guaranteed safety solution and must not be used as an emergency service.” They also state that crash detection “does not contact emergency responders, does not dispatch help, and does not replace emergency services.” These are contractual limitations stated by HeyPolo, not a finding about how often alerts succeed. In practical terms, do not rely on a location or crash alert to summon help. If an emergency occurs, use the appropriate local emergency number or service directly.

Reported price, trials and subscription terms
TechRadar reported a monthly plan at $5.99 or an annual plan equivalent to $1.99 per month, with one paid plan covering a family. It also reported three-day or seven-day free-trial offers through the iOS or Android app stores, depending on the offer or platform, and no trial for direct website purchases. HeyPolo’s terms describe monthly and yearly subscriptions that renew automatically. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. The terms also describe a 30-day money-back guarantee for qualifying initial purchases, while refund handling differs for third-party purchases, including those through Apple. How to decide whether HeyPolo fits your family
- Match the control to the need: choose a location-sharing service for coordination and alerts; choose a broader parental-control product if you need web filtering, app restrictions or screen-time rules.
- Check consent and precision: determine whether each participant can choose exact or approximate sharing, schedule it, make it temporary or turn it off.
- Confirm device support: check that the devices in your household support the specific features you expect, rather than assuming platform parity.
- Understand safety boundaries: establish what an alert can tell you and who must contact emergency services.
- Calculate the real cost: compare monthly and annual billing, trial eligibility, automatic renewal, refund rules and the number of family members covered.
