Dragon’s Dogma 2 is worth buying if you want a single-player fantasy action RPG centered on vocation-based combat, open-ended exploration, and customizable AI companions called Pawns. It is a weaker fit if you need guaranteed co-op, a documented best-performing console version, or a PC performance promise for hardware that only barely meets the requirements.
The purchase decision changed with Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen package, announced for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 9, 2026. The base game and expansion are sold separately on the reviewed US PlayStation and Xbox storefronts, while the Switch 2 package combines them. What you are buying
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is presented by PlayStation as a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG. You create an Arisen, choose a combat vocation, build a main Pawn companion, and travel through the kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl. Combat is built around vocation abilities, enemy reactions, positioning, and using the environment during encounters.
The campaign itself is single-player. You can hire two additional Pawns through in-game options or from other players over the internet, but those companions are AI-controlled in your game. Pawn sharing adds an online layer without turning the game into a cooperative multiplayer adventure.

How the core loop works
- Choose a vocation: Your vocation determines the broad role and abilities available to the Arisen. The choice shapes how you approach fights and which skills you want to develop.
- Create and maintain a main Pawn: Your main Pawn travels with you and can be customized as part of your party strategy.
- Recruit two more Pawns: Additional companions can come from in-game options or from other players’ shared Pawns.
- Explore rather than follow a purely linear route: The official description emphasizes exploration and environmental interaction alongside combat.
- Adapt during battles: Enemy reactions and the environment are described as part of combat, so encounters are not framed as simple menu-driven exchanges.
These points describe the systems and structure identified in official platform and publisher materials. They do not, by themselves, prove that every vocation, quest, enemy encounter, or performance configuration will feel equally good to every player.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 editions and Dark Arisen
Capcom announced Dark Arisen on June 10, 2026 as a paid expansion that adds a new story to the game originally released in March 2024. The announced release date for the package is October 9, 2026.

The edition choice is therefore straightforward: buy the base game if you want the original campaign at the lower listed price, or choose the Dark Arisen package if you want the expansion and its listed extras. The exact package name and contents should be checked on the store page for your country and platform.

Before checkout, verify the currency, region, platform, edition name, and whether you are buying a digital or physical copy. The reviewed prices do not establish current PC or Switch 2 pricing, physical-retail pricing, or prices outside the United States.
Which edition makes sense?
- Choose the base edition when you primarily want to play the original game and would rather keep the initial cost lower. You can decide later whether the expansion is worth adding if your platform offers it separately.
- Choose Dark Arisen when you already expect to play the new story, want the expansion included immediately, or value the Explorer’s Camping Kit and custom sounds listed with the PS5 and Xbox bundles.
- Wait for a specific platform listing when you are buying on Switch 2 or PC and the live store page has not yet made the price or bundle contents clear.

Capcom’s announced platforms for the Dark Arisen package are Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. That gives buyers four current hardware routes, but the available evidence does not establish a reliable performance ranking between them.

The US PlayStation Store listing reviewed for this guide showed both the $39.99 Standard Edition and the $49.99 Dark Arisen package. The higher-priced listing included the game, expansion, Explorer’s Camping Kit, and custom sounds. Confirm the live listing because storefront prices and package contents can change.

Xbox Series X|S
The US Xbox Store listing showed Dragon’s Dogma 2 at $39.99+ and Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen at $49.99+. The bundle listed the base game, expansion, camping kit, and custom sounds. The notation and final price should be checked on the current Xbox store page for your account and region.
Nintendo Switch 2
Capcom announced a Switch 2 package that combines the base game and Dark Arisen expansion. The available information does not state a Switch 2 price, physical-versus-digital availability, or a comparative performance result. If portability is your deciding factor, wait for the regional listing to confirm the exact package you are purchasing.
PC
PC buyers get the same announced platform access to the game and expansion, but suitability depends on the particular computer. Capcom’s Steam FAQ, updated October 12, 2026, directs buyers to the Steam store for current system requirements. It supports mouse and keyboard input and lists several compatible controllers.

Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 multiplayer?
No. The campaign is described as single-player, not as a co-op game. The online functions concern Pawns: you can hire additional companions associated with other players, and your own Pawn information can be shared while connected.
What happens if you start offline?
Capcom’s support FAQ says that if the game is started offline, you must turn on Network Features after reconnecting before using online features. The same FAQ says your Pawn information can be uploaded by resting at an inn while connected.
- Reconnect the console or PC to the internet.
- Open the game’s settings or network-options area and turn on Network Features.
- Rest at an inn while connected so your Pawn information can be uploaded.
- Use the in-game Pawn options to hire or manage additional companions.
You can therefore play the core adventure as a solo player while still using network-enabled Pawn features when you choose. If you specifically want a friend controlling a character beside you in real time, this is not the same feature.
What PC buyers should check before purchase
Because Capcom’s current requirements are maintained on the Steam listing, check that page immediately before buying rather than relying on an old specification copied elsewhere. Compare your machine with the listed processor, memory, graphics hardware, operating-system, and storage requirements, then leave room for driver updates and the game’s own settings.

- Open the current Steam listing: Use the system-requirements section associated with the edition you intend to buy.
- Compare the complete configuration: Check every listed requirement, not only the graphics card. A mismatch in memory, processor, operating system, or storage can matter as much as the GPU.
- Plan for settings changes: If your hardware is close to the minimum, expect to test lower graphics options or resolution rather than assuming a fixed visual preset will work.
- Confirm input: Mouse and keyboard are supported, and Capcom lists several controllers. Make sure your preferred controller appears in the current support information.
- Keep expectations qualified: The official material does not provide a performance guarantee for your exact hardware combination.
The reviewed sources do not supply a dependable cross-platform benchmark, frame-rate table, or hardware-specific test. Any claim that one of these platforms is definitively the best-performing version goes beyond the evidence available here.

It is a strong match if you want
- A solo fantasy adventure rather than a persistent online world.
- Combat choices that begin with a vocation and change how you handle enemies.
- Exploration across Vermund and Battahl instead of a campaign built only around linear stages.
- A party system in which you create one main Pawn and recruit two more companions.
- Optional online interaction through Pawn sharing rather than mandatory multiplayer.
- The option to buy the original game alone or a bundle that adds a new story through Dark Arisen.
Consider waiting or choosing another game if you need
- Guaranteed cooperative play with friends controlling their own characters.
- A platform choice backed by a published, independent performance ranking.
- A PC purchase that requires no graphics-setting adjustments on borderline hardware.
- A confirmed physical-retail option or a stable worldwide price; those details were not established for every platform and region.
How to decide between platforms and packages
Use the following order so that the edition decision follows your actual priorities rather than a headline price.
- Start with hardware access: Pick the platform you already own or the one whose current requirements you can meet. The announced choices are Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
- Decide whether the expansion matters now: If the new Dark Arisen story is part of your plan, compare the bundle. If you only want the base campaign, compare the lower-priced edition.
- Check the live regional listing: Verify currency, taxes where applicable, edition name, digital or physical format, and included bonuses.
- Evaluate network dependence: The campaign is playable as a single-player experience, but Pawn hiring and sharing use network features.
- For PC, compare the complete specification: Use the current Steam requirements and plan for settings changes if your system is near the minimum.
- Buy only after confirming the return and upgrade rules shown by your store: The available evidence does not establish identical policies across platforms, so read the current terms attached to your purchase.
What the sales figure does—and does not—tell you
Capcom reported more than 14 million cumulative units sold for the Dragon’s Dogma series as of March 31, 2026. That is a series-wide figure, not sales of Dragon’s Dogma 2 alone. It indicates broad commercial reach for the franchise, but it is not a substitute for an independent quality assessment or a guarantee that the game suits your preferences.

The official storefront descriptions establish what Capcom and the platform stores say the game includes. They do not settle how every vocation feels, how consistently every quest works, or how the game performs on every console and PC configuration.
No current comparative review consensus or dependable platform benchmark was established for this decision. Treat rankings, frame-rate claims, or universal statements about the “best” version cautiously unless they identify a specific platform, build, settings, and test conditions.
Prices are also time- and region-sensitive. The PS5 and Xbox figures above were captured from US digital storefronts on October 13, 2026. They should not be read as permanent MSRP, global pricing, or proof of what a physical copy costs.
Pre-purchase checklist
