Yes—Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is worth buying if you want an atmospheric 3D platformer built around paint-and-thinner puzzles, meaningful choices, and a forgotten-Disney setting. The standard edition is the sensible purchase for most players. Nintendo Switch 2 is the most interesting portable option because the publisher says it improves resolution and framerate, adds mouse-style Joy-Con 2 controls, and includes the Costume Pack. The European Collector’s Edition is for memorabilia buyers, not people simply looking for the best way to play.
There is one important qualification: Nintendo Life’s favorable 8/10 review of the European Nintendo Switch version also reported unstable frame rates, pop-in, and loads approaching 40 seconds. Those observations apply to that Switch playthrough and should not be treated as benchmarks for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, or Switch 2.
What Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a remake of the 2010 Epic Mickey. Mickey travels through Wasteland, a setting populated by forgotten Disney characters, and uses a magic brush as both a tool and a decision system. Paint can restore parts of the environment or create solutions, while thinner can erase or alter objects and pathways.
That mechanic is connected to nearly every major activity. You use the brush to solve environmental puzzles, change routes, handle enemies, and influence how characters respond to Mickey. A choice is not merely a dialogue selection: deciding whether to restore something with paint or remove it with thinner can change what you see and how later situations unfold.

THQ Nordic’s remake also adds dash, ground pound, and sprint abilities. These additions give Mickey more movement options than in the 2010 game, while Nintendo Life describes the wider structure as a 3D platformer with exploration, collectibles, quests, decisions, and side-scrolling interstitial stages. The result is not simply a visual remaster; it is an older platforming adventure rebuilt with additional movement tools and a freer-feeling camera.
The unusual combination is the game’s main reason to exist. If you want a conventional, combat-heavy action game or a technically flawless showcase, the evidence here does not point to that experience. If you like experimenting with the environment and seeing choices produce different consequences, the concept remains distinctive.
Platforms and what each release includes
The original release became available on September 24, 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, according to THQ Nordic’s launch announcement. On October 6, 2026, the publisher announced that the game was available for Nintendo Switch 2.

The publisher’s Switch 2 announcement says: “On Nintendo Switch 2, the adventure shines brighter than ever with: Higher resolution visuals, improved framerate, mouse-style controls using the Joy Con 2 controller and includes the Costume Pack DLC.” That is publisher language, not an independently measured frame-rate comparison, and no numerical target is given.
How the paint-and-thinner system changes play
Paint: restoration and creation
Paint is the constructive side of Mickey’s brush. It can restore damaged or missing parts of Wasteland and create a way forward when the environment has been altered. In practical terms, paint encourages you to look for what can be repaired, revealed, or made solid enough to use.
Thinner: removal and alteration
Thinner is the destructive or editing-focused option. It can erase environmental elements and alter spaces rather than simply opening a locked door. This gives you a second way to approach obstacles and can produce different consequences for characters and quests.

Choices with consequences
The brush decisions are tied to relationships and later outcomes. Nintendo Life praised the way choices can affect consequences in subsequent play, which gives the remake more replay value than a purely linear platformer. You should not expect every decision to transform the entire campaign, but the system is substantial enough that a first playthrough does not necessarily show every result.

Movement and camera changes
Dash, ground pound, and sprint expand Mickey’s movement vocabulary. Nintendo Life also found that camera changes improve on the original’s camera problems. Those improvements matter because a platformer based on environmental interaction depends on being able to read spaces and line up actions without fighting the viewpoint.
What the Nintendo Switch review actually found
Nintendo Life reviewer Mitch Vogel awarded the European Nintendo Switch version 8/10 in a review published September 23, 2024. The review praised the world, art direction, environmental brush mechanic, consequences attached to choices, and replayability. It also noted that some quests are straightforward fetch quests, so not every objective matches the creativity of the brush system.
The same review reported unstable frame rates, visible asset pop-in, and loading that reached just under 40 seconds in some larger areas. The reviewer observed drops of roughly 5–10 frames per second during that playthrough and described the issues as tolerable but disappointing.
These figures are review observations, not independent benchmark measurements. They describe the European Switch build tested by Nintendo Life and do not establish performance on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or Switch 2. The Switch 2 announcement claims an improved framerate but does not quantify how large the improvement is. Anyone who prioritizes stable frame pacing or very short loads should look for testing of the exact version they intend to buy rather than assuming that one platform’s behavior applies everywhere.

The standard game is the right default for someone whose goal is to play the remake. The Collector’s Edition is a physical memorabilia package with a much higher price and should be judged on the value of its objects, not on gameplay features.

At those observed European store prices, the Collector’s Edition costs €110 more than the standard listing. That premium buys a substantial set of physical items, but it does not represent a higher-performing version of the game. Confirm which platform is included, whether the package is in stock, and the local price before ordering; storefront contents and prices are subject to change.
Launch and Switch 2 suggested prices
THQ Nordic’s published suggested retail prices provide useful historical context, but they are not guarantees of what a retailer charges today.

Choose Switch 2 for portable play and the stated upgrades
Switch 2 is the clearest choice if you want to play portably and value the publisher’s announced improvements. THQ Nordic specifically lists higher-resolution visuals, an improved framerate, mouse-style controls through Joy-Con 2, and the Costume Pack DLC. The announcement does not provide a frame-rate number or a direct side-by-side test, so treat those as feature claims rather than a quantified performance guarantee.
The included Costume Pack may also make Switch 2 more attractive when its price is close to other versions. It is an included add-on, not evidence that the underlying campaign is different.
Choose the original Switch version only with performance expectations set
The original Switch release offers the same core remake concept and the convenience of handheld play, but the Nintendo Life review documented the specific compromises described above. If occasional frame-rate drops, pop-in, and waits approaching 40 seconds would undermine your enjoyment, compare the Switch 2 version or another platform before buying.

Choose PlayStation, Xbox, or PC according to your existing hardware
The sources confirm the game on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but they do not provide a controlled ranking across those systems. Players who need flawless technical performance
Be cautious if your first priority is perfectly stable frame pacing and minimal loading. The only detailed performance evidence supplied is the European Switch review, which recorded compromises. That does not condemn every edition, but it does mean you should verify platform-specific testing before treating the game as a technical showcase.
A practical buying checklist
- Identify your platform first. Decide whether portability, existing console ownership, or PC access matters most. The game is available across the 2024 console and PC platforms, with Switch 2 added in 2026.
