No. Digital-asset yield is not inherently guaranteed. A quoted rate does not necessarily promise that the rate will stay available, that you will get your principal back, or that you can withdraw on demand. Those are separate questions, and the answers depend on the product, provider, asset, jurisdiction, and account terms.

In the United States, SEC investor guidance warns that crypto assets placed in interest-bearing accounts do not receive the same protections as insured bank or credit-union deposits. To assess an offer, first identify how it generates rewards, then check how your assets are held and what can happen if withdrawals are restricted or the provider fails.

What “guaranteed yield” can—and cannot—mean

The word yield describes a return or reward an account or service says it may provide. It does not, by itself, establish a promise. A displayed percentage might be a current estimate, a rate that can change, or a term offered only under particular eligibility rules. Even a stated rate does not automatically settle whether the provider must repay your assets or let you transfer them whenever you ask.

Keep three questions separate when you read an offer:

  • Genuine Check: confirm your signer is authentic during setup with the Ledger Wallet app.
  • Protect your signer: keep it in mint condition at all times with a bespoke Pod or Case to avoid scratches and everyday wear and tear.
  • Rate: Is the quoted return fixed for a defined period, or can it change? What activity or conditions determine it?
  • Principal: Is repayment of the assets promised, and what does the agreement say if the provider cannot meet its obligations?
  • Access: Can you withdraw or transfer at any time, or can protocol rules, account terms, or a provider decision delay or restrict access?

A “guaranteed” label should not substitute for answers to those questions. In its April 24, 2019 Investor Alert, the SEC’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy and the CFTC’s Office of Customer Education and Outreach cautioned: “All investments have risk, and investors should question any so-called ‘guaranteed’ return.” The alert addresses fraudulent digital-asset and crypto trading websites; it is a warning to examine claims, not proof that every digital-asset product is fraudulent.

Digital yield can come from different arrangements

“Digital yield” is an umbrella phrase, not one standard account type. An advertised reward can be tied to a company’s use of customer assets, a lending arrangement, or protocol staking. These mechanisms should not be treated as interchangeable: they can expose assets to different conditions, restrictions, and counterparties.

Arrangement What the cited material establishes What to check in the product terms
Crypto interest-bearing account The SEC says interest paid on these accounts is based on the company’s investment activities. Deposited crypto assets may be used in activities including lending. How assets are used; whether they are lent, pledged, or otherwise deployed; what rate terms apply; and when transfers or withdrawals may be restricted.
Lending product Lending is one possible activity through which a company may use assets deposited in an interest-bearing account. The cited guidance does not establish one standard lending structure or rate. Who receives or controls the assets, whether collateral or other conditions apply, the fees, and what the agreement says about repayment and access.
Protocol staking Coinbase Global, Inc.’s 2025 annual report says rewards for its staking services vary by asset and are estimated using network and protocol conditions. It also says protocol rules can prevent sale or transfer while certain assets remain staked. Which asset and protocol are involved, how rewards are estimated, what fees apply, and whether protocol rules affect sale or transfer.

The table describes distinctions in the cited SEC guidance and Coinbase’s company-specific 2025 filing; it is not a provider-by-provider comparison or a claim that all products in a category have identical terms. A company may use lending as part of an interest-bearing account, for example, but that does not make every account or staking service the same product.

Why a quoted rate may change

There is no single rate-setting method for all digital-asset products. For the crypto interest-bearing accounts covered by its February 14, 2022 Investor Bulletin, the SEC says interest paid is based on the company’s investment activities. That means an advertised rate should be read alongside the terms describing those activities and any conditions attached to the offer.

Staking is a different mechanism. Coinbase’s 2025 annual report says its staking reward rates vary by asset and are estimated using protocol and network conditions. That disclosure describes Coinbase’s staking services; it does not establish how every provider calculates rates, or that a rate shown by one service will continue for another asset or customer.

The SEC materials reviewed do not provide a current, comparable rate table across named providers. Rates, fees, eligibility, lockups, and withdrawal terms can vary by asset, provider, jurisdiction, and product version. Do not treat a rate as current or generally available unless you have checked the provider’s dated terms for your location and circumstances.

Are crypto interest accounts insured?

In the United States, the SEC’s February 2022 Investor Bulletin says: “Companies offering interest-bearing accounts for crypto assets do not provide investors with the same protections as do banks or credit unions, and crypto assets sent to those companies are not currently insured.” Crypto assets in such accounts therefore should not be assumed to have the deposit protections that apply to covered bank or credit-union deposits.

SIPC protection also does not cover most crypto assets or losses caused by changes in market value. The practical point is to identify exactly what protection applies to the particular account and asset rather than relying on a familiar financial label. The cited SEC guidance is U.S.-focused; legal treatment and protections may differ elsewhere, and the sources do not establish one rule for every token or product.

What can put assets or access at risk?

The SEC’s 2022 bulletin lists risks associated with crypto interest-bearing accounts that include market volatility and illiquidity, company failure or bankruptcy, regulatory changes, fraud or default, technical glitches, hackers, and malware. Those risks can affect the value of assets, the ability to recover them, or the ability to transact. They are not a forecast that any particular provider will fail.

A separate SEC alert dated March 23, 2023 concerns crypto-asset securities platforms and related entities. It describes risks including concentrated or opaque control, unauthorized lending or transfers, halted withdrawals, and uncertainty about recovery after bankruptcy. Its scope matters: those observations should not be generalized into a statement that every crypto product or token has the same legal status or risk profile.

Access can also be affected by product-specific rules. Coinbase’s 2025 annual report says protocol rules may prevent the sale or transfer of certain assets while they remain staked. This is an example tied to its staking services, not evidence that every staking product has the same restrictions. For any offer, read the withdrawal and transfer provisions rather than assuming that a displayed balance is immediately available.

How to check an offer before depositing

Read the account agreement and disclosures for the exact product, asset, and jurisdiction you intend to use. A general help page or promotional rate may not answer what happens to your assets under the binding terms. The SEC’s 2022 bulletin advises investors to review account documents and disclosures; its December 12, 2025 custody bulletin offers additional questions to ask about how an intermediary handles assets.

  1. Identify the product type. Establish whether you are considering an interest-bearing account, a lending arrangement, protocol staking, or a product that combines activities. Do not assume that “earn,” “rewards,” or “yield” identifies the underlying arrangement.
  2. Find the rate rules. Check whether the rate is fixed or variable, how it is calculated or estimated, which asset it applies to, and what conditions can change it. Note the date of the terms and any eligibility rules that apply to you.
  3. Ask how assets are used. The SEC’s 2025 custody bulletin recommends asking whether a custodian uses assets, lends them, or uses them as collateral. Also ask who controls the assets and whether they are commingled with other holdings.
  4. Read the withdrawal and transfer rules. Look for notice periods, lockups, protocol-related limits, and clauses that allow withdrawals or transfers to be restricted. Confirm what the agreement says about pending requests and the process for restoring access.
  5. Check fees and deductions. Ask which asset-transfer and other fees apply and whether charges affect the reward you receive. Do not assume that an advertised rate is the amount you will net.
  6. Understand the failure and legal provisions. Read what the agreement says about the provider’s obligations, default, insolvency, and recovery. Check which law and regulatory framework apply to the actual product; do not infer legal treatment from a token’s name or from a platform’s description.
  7. Keep records of the terms. Save the dated disclosures and the rate, asset, and eligibility details shown when you make a decision. This makes it easier to notice later changes and to compare the offer against what you accepted.

If an offer describes a high return as both guaranteed and low-risk, treat that combination as a reason to investigate, not as proof of safety. The SEC’s 2019 alert specifically urges investors to question so-called guaranteed returns. Claims should be assessed against the written terms and the actual arrangement, not the label alone.

Questions to ask before choosing a product

  • What activity generates the return: company investment activity, lending, protocol staking, or something else?
  • Can the rate change, and what conditions determine an estimate or adjustment?
  • Are assets lent, pledged as collateral, used in another way, or commingled?
  • Who has control of the assets, and what does the agreement say if the provider becomes insolvent?
  • Can you sell or transfer the asset while it is earning a reward? If not, what ends the restriction?
  • When can withdrawals be delayed or halted, and what fees or other conditions apply?
  • Which protections and rules apply in your jurisdiction to this particular account and asset?

If the provider’s documents do not clearly answer material questions about asset use, control, fees, rate changes, or access, do not treat the missing detail as a guarantee in your favor. The documents and legal treatment are product-specific, so a generic explanation of “crypto yield” cannot resolve them.
