Yes. Dell is an American technology company founded in Austin, Texas, in 1984 by Michael Dell. Its corporate headquarters are in Round Rock, Texas. Dell Technologies also changed its state of incorporation from Delaware to Texas, effective July 1, 2026—but that was a legal change, not a move of its headquarters or operations.

Where Dell began and where it is based

Michael Dell founded the company in Austin in 1984 while he was a student at the University of Texas. In a May 2026 company announcement, he described the business as starting in his dorm room. Dell Technologies lists its corporate headquarters in Round Rock, Texas, north of Austin. The founding and headquarters locations make Dell’s American identity clear, independently of its legal domicile.

Dell later grew beyond its personal-computer origins. The company describes itself as a global provider of hardware, software and services, while its fiscal 2024 annual report discusses IT infrastructure, multicloud operations, workforce transformation and connected organizations. These are company and SEC-filed descriptions of its offerings, not an independent ranking of its position in the industry.

What changed when Dell became a Texas corporation?

Dell Technologies Inc. was incorporated in Delaware for much of its public-company history. Following shareholder approval, it converted to a Texas corporation effective July 1, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. Central Time. The SEC filing says the company continued in existence as a Texas corporation, with its internal affairs governed by Texas law. As of that effective date, Texas is both its founding state and its state of incorporation.

The conversion did not relocate Dell. The SEC filing says the change did not alter its headquarters, business, jobs, management, offices, facilities, obligations or assets. Dell’s headquarters were already in Round Rock before the conversion. Older records calling Dell a Delaware corporation reflect the company’s previous legal status; their dates matter when assessing whether they describe its current incorporation.

How Dell became a global technology company

Dell’s business developed from a Texas-founded computer company into a wider technology provider. A major milestone in its corporate evolution was the Dell Inc.–EMC merger, which Dell Technologies says closed on August 2, 2016. The company’s Class C common stock began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol DELL on December 28, 2018.

Its later company materials describe hardware, software and services, and its fiscal 2024 SEC filing outlines solutions for infrastructure, multicloud environments and connected organizations. That growth helps explain why Dell is now associated with more than PCs, while its corporate origins and headquarters remain in Texas.
