Rockstar has not explicitly confirmed that Deathwish is GTA 5’s canon ending. A December 2025 report interpreted story details in GTA Online’s A Safehouse in the Hills update as evidence for that conclusion. The update’s reported continuity is consistent with Deathwish, but Rockstar’s announcement confirms the update’s arrival—not a canonical ending.
What is the canon ending of GTA 5?
The strongest evidence-based answer is that Deathwish is the ending most consistent with the later story details reported for GTA Online, but it has not been established as an official Rockstar canon choice. The claim that it was “officially confirmed” goes further than the official announcement supports.

Rockstar announced that GTA Online: A Safehouse in the Hills would arrive on December 10, 2025. Its announcement identifies the update and date, but does not name a GTA 5 ending as canon: Rockstar’s announcement.
Why does the update point toward Deathwish?
Times of Bangladesh reported on December 10, 2025, that the update brings Michael De Santa into GTA Online’s present timeline and includes dialogue indicating Trevor Philips is alive. It also reported that Michael is pursuing film production and remains with Amanda. Those plot details are reported by Times of Bangladesh; they are not stated in the Rockstar announcement cited above.

In its account of GTA 5’s finale, the report describes three choices for Franklin: kill Trevor, kill Michael, or choose Deathwish, which allows all three protagonists to survive. If the reported later appearances of Michael and Trevor are taken as evidence of continuity, Deathwish best fits: both characters are alive in that ending. That makes it a plausible inference, not a direct declaration from Rockstar.

Did Rockstar officially confirm GTA 5’s ending?
No explicit confirmation appears in the official announcement reviewed here. Times of Bangladesh made the stronger interpretive claim that the update effectively establishes Deathwish as canon; that conclusion should be attributed to the outlet rather than presented as Rockstar’s own wording. The distinction matters: a later story can support a continuity without the publisher formally declaring which ending is canonical.
