Short answer: it depends on which Xbox version you own. The reported Xbox Series X/S upgrade is free for owners of the last-generation Darksiders: Warmastered Edition. Owners of only the 2010 Xbox 360 release are not shown to receive that entitlement, so they would be paying again for the remaster. Buy at full price only if current-console access and a cleaner, steadier presentation matter immediately; otherwise, wait for a sale.
First, identify the game and the version you own
The wording “new Xbox 360 classic port” most closely matches Darksiders: Warmastered Edition. The original Darksiders launched in 2010 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Warmastered Edition followed in 2016 as a technical remaster of that game. A 2026 report describes a further build for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
That history creates three ownership situations that should not be conflated:
- 2010 Xbox 360 original: the first release, with its original presentation and Xbox 360-era technical characteristics.
- Last-generation Warmastered Edition on Xbox: the 2016 remaster, which is the version covered by the reported upgrade path.
- Xbox Series X/S version: the newer current-generation build reported in 2026, with a crisper image and more stable frame rate.
Before spending anything, check the exact product name in your Xbox library, on the disc case or in your purchase history. “Darksiders” and “Darksiders: Warmastered Edition” are not interchangeable labels for entitlement purposes.

The buying decision at a glance
| Your existing version | What the report establishes | Most sensible choice |
|---|---|---|
| 2010 Xbox 360 original only | The free Series X/S entitlement is not established for this version. | Keep the original if you value its presentation or already have suitable hardware; buy Warmastered during a discount if you want modern display and performance improvements. |
| Last-generation Warmastered Edition on Xbox | Xbox Series X/S owners were reported to receive the newer upgrade free. | Claim the upgrade rather than buying the game again. |
| No Xbox copy | The remaster is the relevant purchase; the report lists higher prices for the newer last-generation version than for the earlier release. | Choose Warmastered if you want current-console access, and verify the exact Xbox SKU and price before checkout. |
The key value distinction is therefore not “old game versus new game.” It is original Xbox 360 ownership versus Warmastered ownership. The reported free upgrade applies to the latter, not automatically to everyone who owns the 2010 release.
What Warmastered Edition changes
Warmastered Edition is more than a name change, but it is still a remaster of the same game rather than a documented replacement campaign. The 2016 edition was reported to support native resolutions from 1080p through 4K, improved textures, upgraded lighting and improved character models, with frame rates of up to 60 frames per second.
Resolution and display quality
The resolution range matters most on a modern television or monitor. A higher-resolution output can make geometry, environmental details and interface elements look cleaner than on the Xbox 360 version. The report describes support up to 4K, but it does not establish that every console, display mode or scene runs at 4K continuously. Treat “up to 4K” as a capability of the edition, not a promise of a fixed resolution in every circumstance.
Textures, lighting and character models
Improved textures add detail to surfaces, while revised lighting can change how rooms, effects and characters read on screen. Better character models are most visible in close-ups and during combat encounters. These are presentation upgrades: they make the same adventure easier to appreciate on current displays, but they do not constitute a new story, level set or replacement gameplay experience in the information available.

Frame-rate ceiling versus frame-rate consistency
Warmastered was described as supporting up to 60 fps. “Up to” identifies the target or ceiling; it does not prove that the original Xbox 360 release or every Warmastered scene maintains that rate. The 2026 current-generation report separately emphasizes a more stable frame rate, which is a different benefit from merely having a higher possible maximum. If responsiveness and reduced fluctuation matter to you, the newer build’s stability is the relevant improvement.
What the 2026 Xbox Series X/S upgrade adds
The reported 2026 update is described in practical terms rather than as a content expansion: crisper resolution and a more stable frame rate on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. No new campaign, missions or replacement experience are documented in the available reporting. That makes the upgrade primarily a way to run the existing game more comfortably on modern hardware.
Free upgrade for the last-generation Warmastered version
According to the 2026 report, Xbox Series X/S owners of the last-generation Warmastered Edition receive the current-generation upgrade free. If that version is already attached to your Xbox account, the sensible first step is to check your library or the game’s product page for the Series X/S build before buying anything. A separate purchase would provide no obvious value if the entitlement is already present.
Paid path for people starting from the original
The report does not show the same free entitlement for someone who owns only the 2010 Xbox 360 release. That is the most important caveat in the entire decision. Backward compatibility in the wider Xbox ecosystem does not, by itself, prove that an original-game owner receives a remastered or current-generation SKU. The product page must identify the edition you own and the edition you are being offered.

Reported prices and why they are not permanent
| Transaction described in the 2026 report | Reported price | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Earlier last-generation version | £15.99 / $19.99 | Price cited in the report as the earlier amount. |
| Later last-generation version | £24.99 / $29.99 | Price cited in the report after the increase. |
| Upgrade for the last-generation version | £7.99 / $9.99 | Upgrade charge cited for the paid path; Xbox Series X/S owners were also reported to receive the upgrade free. |
These figures are dated report values, not a guarantee of today’s regional store price. Currency, tax, sales, bundles, ownership history and platform SKU can change the amount shown at checkout. Use the numbers as a guide to the reported pricing structure: a full purchase for the remaster, a smaller paid upgrade in some cases, and no charge for the qualifying last-generation Warmastered owner on Xbox Series X/S.
Who should buy it now?
Buy or claim it if you own last-generation Warmastered
This is the easiest recommendation. If your Xbox account owns the 2016 Warmastered Edition, check for the current-generation entitlement and install it. The reported free upgrade gives you the improved resolution and frame-rate stability without adding another purchase. There is little reason to remain on an older build unless you specifically need that version for a platform, save, accessory or local setup that the newer build does not support.
Consider a sale if you own only the Xbox 360 original
The remaster makes the strongest case when your original copy is difficult to use on your current setup, your television exposes the older image quality, or you care about a steadier presentation. You are not simply unlocking an unused patch, however; you are buying a separate remastered version. Because the free upgrade is not established for original-only owners, waiting for a discount protects you from paying the higher price for improvements you may consider cosmetic.

Pay full price only for immediate convenience
Full-price buying is easier to justify when you want to play now on Xbox Series X/S, no longer keep an Xbox 360 connected, or prefer a current-store installation to locating old hardware and discs. Convenience is a real benefit, but it should be weighed against the fact that the underlying adventure remains the same documented game.

Keep the original for preservation or authenticity
The 2010 version remains the right choice if you value original presentation, physical ownership or the historical Xbox 360 experience. A remaster’s revised textures, lighting and models are artistic changes as well as technical ones. Players who want to see the game as it appeared at launch may prefer to preserve the original rather than replace it.
A practical decision process
- Check the product name. In your Xbox library, purchase history or physical packaging, determine whether you own Darksiders (2010) or Darksiders: Warmastered Edition (2016).
- Check the platform listing. Confirm whether the item is labeled for Xbox 360, Xbox One/last-generation Xbox, or Xbox Series X/S. Do not infer an entitlement from the fact that both products use the Darksiders name.
- Open the current store page while signed into the owning account. Look for an install option, an upgrade label or a price. The account-specific page is more reliable than a general search result for determining entitlement.
- Compare the visible benefit with your priorities. Choose the remaster when higher-resolution output, improved assets, a steadier frame rate or current-console convenience solves a problem you actually have.
- Wait if the benefit is mainly “having another copy.” Original-only owners who are satisfied with their Xbox 360 setup can postpone the purchase and take advantage of a sale later.
How the versions differ in everyday use
| Decision factor | Xbox 360 original | Warmastered Edition | Reported current-generation build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Release timing | 2010 | 2016 | Reported in 2026 |
| Core game | Original Darksiders adventure | Remastered version of that adventure | Further technical update of the remastered game |
| Resolution information | Original Xbox 360 presentation | Reported support from 1080p up to 4K | Reported crisper resolution |
| Asset improvements | Original textures, lighting and models | Improved textures, lighting and character models | Presentation remains based on the remastered version |
| Frame-rate information | Original release characteristics | Reported support up to 60 fps | Reported more stable frame rate |
| New campaign documented | Not applicable | No new campaign is documented in the available report | No new campaign is documented in the available report |
The table shows why the upgrade can feel substantial on a modern screen while still being unnecessary for someone satisfied with the original. Image clarity, lighting and consistency affect every session, but they do not change the game’s fundamental content.

Many Xbox 360 games remain playable through Xbox backward compatibility, and reference lists such as GamesRadar’s provide wider context for that program. Compatibility should not be treated as proof that every original disc or digital purchase automatically converts into a remaster entitlement. A compatible Xbox 360 version and a separately sold Warmastered or Series X/S version can coexist.

Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.

- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Can my console run the copy I already own? This concerns backward compatibility and the specific title listing.
- Which edition will be installed? A compatible original may not be the same build as Warmastered.
- Do I qualify for the newer upgrade? The reported free path is tied to last-generation Warmastered ownership on Xbox Series X/S, not simply to owning any Darksiders release.
Check the current Xbox listing for your region and account before deleting an older installation or buying a second copy. Keep the original disc or license information if preservation matters to you.
Common purchasing mistakes
Assuming “Xbox 360” in the title means a new Xbox 360 release
The 2010 Xbox 360 game is the starting point for this comparison. Warmastered is the 2016 remaster, and the Series X/S build is newer still. The phrase “Xbox 360 classic port” can describe the game’s origin, not the platform you should purchase today.
Assuming every owner gets the free upgrade
The documented free offer is for Xbox Series X/S owners of the last-generation Warmastered Edition. Original-only ownership is not shown to qualify. Read the entitlement text attached to your account instead of relying on a generic headline.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Confusing a higher frame-rate ceiling with guaranteed 60 fps
Warmastered was reported to support up to 60 fps, while the newer build was described as more stable. Those phrases communicate different things. If consistent motion is your priority, the current-generation description is more relevant than the remaster’s maximum figure.
Paying an old price from a current store page
The report records both £15.99/$19.99 and £24.99/$29.99 figures for the last-generation version, plus a £7.99/$9.99 upgrade charge. Prices can vary by country and date, so verify the live amount, edition and discount status at checkout.
Expecting a remake-sized transformation
The documented improvements concern resolution, textures, lighting, character models and frame-rate behavior. There is no reported new campaign or replacement experience. Buy for presentation and access, not for additional story content.
Final recommendation by owner type
- Last-generation Warmastered owner on Xbox Series X/S: claim the reported free upgrade. It is the clear value choice.
- Original Xbox 360 owner who wants modern presentation: buy Warmastered only when the current-console convenience and visual improvements justify paying again; a sale is the safer default.
- Original Xbox 360 owner happy with the old setup: keep playing the original. The available information does not show a content upgrade that would make an immediate repurchase essential.
- New player without either version: choose Warmastered if you want the remastered assets and current-console route, after confirming the exact Xbox Series X/S entitlement and regional price.
In short, the answer is “yes” for a qualifying Warmastered owner because the reported Series X/S upgrade is free. For an original Xbox 360 owner, it is a quality-of-life purchase rather than a mandatory replacement, so waiting for a discount is the more defensible recommendation unless you specifically need the modern version now.
