What does “the movie” mean here?
There are two different questions hidden in this title. You may mean the announced live-action Cyberpunk film, or you may mean screen adaptations of the franchise in general. The answer changes depending on which one you have in mind.

You decide when to move through the world, how quickly to follow its narrative, and how much time to spend exploring. That difference is the strongest reason to play if your interest begins with the setting itself.

This does not make the game a substitute for the movie. A film will be a directed screen production with its own creators, characters, and plot. Until the filmmakers publish those details, the game can offer atmosphere and world context only in a broad sense.
Active participation changes the pace
A game requires active participation: you need a compatible platform, time to play, and willingness to make progress yourself. The anime, by contrast, is a finite ten-episode story. Neither format is automatically better.
