Is CyberGhost VPN safe? The available evidence supports a qualified yes for privacy from local-network observers: CyberGhost says it encrypts traffic in transit, does not log VPN activity, and announced a third Deloitte no-logs review in February 2026. That is not a guarantee of complete anonymity or protection from malware, phishing, account takeover, or every form of tracking. A VPN shifts trust from your internet provider or public Wi-Fi operator to the VPN provider; it does not protect a compromised device or prevent websites from identifying you through accounts, cookies, or browser fingerprinting.
What CyberGhost VPN can—and cannot—protect
A VPN creates an encrypted connection between your device and a VPN server. This can make it harder for someone on the same local network, such as a public Wi-Fi operator, to inspect the contents of your traffic. It also changes which network provider sees your connection: your internet provider can generally see that you connect to a VPN, while the VPN provider becomes the service you must trust with the traffic it handles.
Encryption does not make you anonymous to every site or service. Websites can still recognize you when you sign in, use cookies, or expose identifying browser and device information. A VPN also does not remove malware, stop you from entering credentials on a phishing site, or secure an account with a weak or reused password. CyberGhost describes its service as encrypting data in transit; that is a provider claim, not an independent test of every app and protocol.
What the February 2026 audit does and does not establish
CyberGhost’s audit announcement, last updated February 24, 2026, says Deloitte Audit Romania completed a third independent review. The company says the engagement used ISAE 3000 (Revised) and examined its VPN server network and configuration, change-management processes, incident-response controls, and token-based dedicated-IP system. CyberGhost describes the purpose as reviewing how its infrastructure and operations uphold its no-logs policy. It says earlier Deloitte assessments took place in 2022 and 2024. This is evidence about no-logs controls within the scope CyberGhost describes. It should not be treated as a full security audit of every app, nor as proof that a data leak can never occur. CyberGhost says the full assurance report is available to download; the announcement alone does not establish more detailed conclusions than its stated scope.
Does CyberGhost keep logs or personal data?
CyberGhost says it does not retain browsing history, traffic logs, IP assignments, or connection timestamps. Separately, its support article says it retains account and transaction records, which may include a name, address, email, username, payment information, an IP address in anonymized format, country-level approximate location, transaction details, purchased items and prices, billing method, and partial card information used for fraud detection. The company says these records are not linked to VPN-tunnel activity. Its statement is: “None of this personal data is linked to any activity inside the CyberGhost VPN tunnel, which isn’t recorded, logged, or stored.” That is CyberGhost’s description of its own practices, not an independently verified statement about every data-handling circumstance. See CyberGhost’s explanation of retained information.

What CyberGhost’s transparency reports show
CyberGhost publishes quarterly legal-request information. The figures below are reported by the company; they are not independently validated here. DMCA complaints are not the same thing as findings that a user committed wrongdoing, and the published totals do not reveal VPN-tunnel activity.

|---|---|
| Q4 2025 (October–December) | 56,053 DMCA complaints. The police-request total is inconsistent within the report: its monthly table lists 1 in October, 0 in November, and 2 in December (three in total), while the summary says two. The published page does not resolve the conflict. |
| Q4 2025 bug bounty | 19 submissions, 5 unique submissions, and 2 valid security issues resolved. |
| 2025 | 346,247 DMCA complaints and 11 police requests. |
| First six months of 2026 | 117,539 DMCA complaints and 9 police requests. |
The Q4 2025 figures and the annual and 2026 totals appear in CyberGhost’s Q4 2025 report and its current transparency page. CyberGhost says it stopped reporting “malicious activity flags” after Q2 2024 because the category did not reflect formal legal processes and no longer aligned with its reporting framework; figures from before and after that change should not be compared as if the category were continuous.

Encryption details and evidence limits
CyberGhost’s feature page says the service encrypts data in transit and supports up to seven devices. These are vendor-stated product claims. CyberGhost’s encryption information does not, by itself, establish the exact protocol and cryptographic settings used by every platform or app version.
Tom’s Guide reported observing AES-256-CBC encryption and SHA-256 authentication in one OpenVPN setup during its 2026 review. That is a reviewer observation for the tested configuration, not a universal specification or a full independent audit of CyberGhost. Read the review.

The evidence cited here does not establish current platform-by-platform behavior for kill switches, DNS or IP leak protection, connection stability, or app security. Those questions require current testing or documentation for the specific operating system, app version, protocol, and settings in use.

How to decide whether CyberGhost is safe enough for you
- For privacy on public Wi-Fi: VPN encryption can protect traffic in transit between your device and the VPN server, but keep your device and accounts secured as well.
- For reduced provider logging: The audit announcement and no-logs policy provide relevant assurance, while the audit’s stated scope and the company’s retained account and billing records define its limits.
- For anonymity or protection from online threats: Do not rely on a VPN alone. It does not prevent site-level identification, phishing, malware infection, or account compromise.
- For a specific feature such as a kill switch: Check current documentation or test the exact app and platform you plan to use; the evidence summarized here does not verify that feature.
