Sometimes. Cox may charge a monthly fee for its Panoramic WiFi Gateway, but some eligible plans and bundles include the equipment at no extra charge. Cox pages reviewed list different rental rates—$13 and $15 per month—so check the equipment line in your address-specific order summary or bill rather than assuming one price applies everywhere.
When is Panoramic WiFi included, and when might it cost extra?
Cox’s internet plans page says Panoramic WiFi is included for free with Internet 1 Gig and above, and with specified bundles that combine Mobile or TV with any internet plan. Those eligibility terms do not mean every Cox customer gets the gateway free: the applicable offer and service terms can vary. Review the offer for your address and confirm whether the equipment has a separate charge before ordering. Cox internet plans and offers
If your offer does not include the gateway, a rental fee may appear as a separate equipment charge. Two Cox sources give different amounts:
- Cox’s WiFi page lists Panoramic WiFi modem rental at $13 per month. Cox WiFi page
- A Cox Rhode Island price list lists the Panoramic WiFi Gateway at $15 per month. That location-specific price list is not a universal rate. Cox Rhode Island price list
Because the published figures differ and offers vary, neither amount should be treated as the rate for every customer. Check the equipment line in your checkout summary or current bill to see what applies to your plan.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
What does “Panoramic modem” mean?
Panoramic WiFi is Cox’s gateway: one device that combines a modem, which connects your home to the internet service, and a router, which provides Wi-Fi. The term “Panoramic modem” commonly refers to this combined gateway. WiFi Pods are optional extenders for coverage in larger homes; they are separate from the gateway and are not the modem itself. Can you use your own modem instead?
Yes, if the modem is certified for Cox’s network. Cox’s compatible-modem FAQ says, “No, there is no charge to use your own modem.” That answers the Cox charge for using customer-owned equipment; it does not establish that any modem will work. Check Cox’s current certified-device list and the requirements for your internet service before buying. Cox compatible-modem FAQ

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
If you choose a modem that does not include a router, you will also need a separate router to get Wi-Fi at home. A modem-and-router combo can provide both functions in one device.

- Check your address-specific Cox offer or bill for the Panoramic gateway equipment line. Confirm whether it is included or billed separately.
- If it is rented, compare the recurring charge shown for your account with the total cost of compatible equipment you would buy.
- Before purchasing, confirm the modem is Cox-certified for your service and whether you need to buy a separate router.
Buying your own equipment is not automatically cheaper: the comparison depends on your actual rental charge, how long you expect to use the equipment, the purchase cost, and whether your plan already includes the gateway.
