CONTROL Resonant is worth considering if you want a supernatural action RPG built around melee combat, weapon forms, and exploration in a warped Manhattan. It released on September 24, 2026, and Remedy says it is out now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and GeForce NOW. Whether it is right for you depends on your appetite for action-RPG progression and repeated encounters: reviewers disagree about the combat, with one criticizing repetition and enemy scaling and another praising the story, adjustable difficulty, and accessibility to newcomers.
What kind of game is CONTROL Resonant?
CONTROL Resonant is Remedy’s sequel to CONTROL, but it shifts the playable lead from Jesse Faden to her brother, Dylan. The story takes place in Manhattan after paranatural forces have transformed the city. Jesse is missing, and Dylan is the sole playable character.

Dylan fights with the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon, alongside supernatural abilities that evolve as he progresses. Remedy describes large, distinct zones with side activities, hidden encounters, optional discoveries, and gravity anomalies that can change orientation and gravity. This is a supernatural action RPG, not simply another Jesse-led version of the original game.

Is CONTROL Resonant worth buying?
It is a stronger fit if you enjoy melee-focused action, supernatural settings, exploration, and character progression. Be more cautious if repetitive combat or enemy scaling tends to frustrate you in a long game. Those are specific concerns raised by PC Gamer, not an established consensus.

The reviews available offer different judgments. PC Gamer criticizes repetitive combat and enemy scaling, while Tom’s Guide is strongly positive and highlights interconnected maps, skill trees, multiple weapon forms, adjustable difficulty, and the story. Treat these as individual editorial assessments rather than a settled verdict on the game.
- Consider it if: you want a Dylan-led story, shapeshifting melee combat, and a supernatural take on Manhattan.
- Think carefully if: repeated encounters or enemy scaling are deal-breakers for you.
- Check your platform first if: you intend to play on Mac or a handheld. The Mac date is not specified on Remedy’s current page, and PC Gamer’s Steam Deck “Unverified” label reflects its status at review time, not a permanent compatibility guarantee.
Which platforms can you play it on?
Remedy announced a worldwide September 24, 2026 release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Its current game page also lists GeForce NOW and says the game is out now on the listed platforms. Remedy described the Mac version as coming later in 2026 but did not give a specific date on the current page reviewed; check the relevant store before buying for Mac.

Choose Deluxe only if the listed extras are worth the price difference to you. The PS5 Digital Deluxe Edition’s 48-hour advance-access window was announced for preorders and has passed now that the game is out; it is not a current reason to pay more.

Not necessarily, according to Tom’s Guide: its reviewer says CONTROL Resonant includes a recap and has a self-contained story. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a guarantee that every character or story connection will land the same way for newcomers. Playing CONTROL first is the better choice if you want fuller context for the setting and the Faden family before following Dylan.

- Confirm the game is available for your exact platform and region, especially if you are waiting for Mac or planning to use cloud gaming.
