Brave Firewall + VPN is a paid, whole-device VPN subscription built into the Brave Browser ecosystem—not a free browser feature. Brave advertises protection for other apps on supported devices, up to 10 devices per subscription, and prices of $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year, with a seven-day trial. Those are product details, not evidence of speed, streaming access, or a year of hands-on use.
What Brave Firewall + VPN does
Brave describes Firewall + VPN as network-level protection for a supported device, covering traffic from apps beyond Brave Browser. Brave Browser must also be installed on the device. The service is powered by Guardian, according to Brave. It is a subscription product rather than a free VPN bundled with ordinary Brave browsing. Brave’s product page lists Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows support.
This distinction matters if you are looking for a VPN for just one browser. A browser proxy or browser-only protection would not serve the same purpose: Brave says its VPN is intended to protect traffic from the device’s other apps as well.

The annual rate is a lower advertised total than paying the monthly rate for 12 months, but the page’s listed rates do not establish your local tax or exact renewal terms. Confirm those details in the purchase flow rather than assuming the trial or first payment will renew on the same terms everywhere.
How multi-device setup works
Brave advertises a subscription limit of up to 10 devices, but sharing a mobile purchase across devices can require an extra account-linking step. Brave’s Help Center says a mobile purchase does not automatically create a Brave account; until the user links it, the mobile subscription is separate from an account subscription. In practice, check the Help Center’s current linking instructions if you buy through a mobile app and plan to use the subscription on other devices; the device cap alone does not guarantee that setup is automatic.

In an October 30, 2024 announcement, Brave described hundreds of servers across more than 40 countries and regions, city-level server selection, and support for WireGuard and IKEv2, DNS leak protection, and unlimited bandwidth. What the privacy documentation establishes—and what it does not
Brave says Guardian powers the service and describes a no-logs policy. Brave’s current product page dates its initial software security audit to February 2024 and its initial infrastructure security audit to April 2024. These are company descriptions of its privacy position and audit history. The cited pages do not provide the audit reports’ detailed scope, exceptions, or a later renewal date, so the announcements alone should not be treated as a current, comprehensive independent confirmation of every privacy claim. Brave also says its account authentication method prevents Brave from knowing whether a subscriber actually used the VPN; that, too, is a statement from the company.

Performance and streaming: no independent verdict from this review
Brave’s server count, protocols, leak-protection feature, and bandwidth statement are product claims, not speed or streaming results. No first-hand speed, latency, DNS or IP leak, kill-switch, reconnect, or streaming tests are documented here, so there is no basis to call Brave VPN fast, leak-free, or reliable for a particular streaming service.

A 2026 Gizmodo review result reports that its reviewer found speeds lagged behind competitors, streaming support was limited, and device compatibility was limited. That is an attributed secondary assessment; the available result does not provide enough methodology or raw data to reproduce the comparison. Gizmodo
For a useful comparison, a reader would need test details such as the platform and operating system, Brave version, connection and server locations, repeated throughput and latency measurements, leak checks, and the streaming services and regions tried. Without those details, performance claims should not be generalized from a single reviewer’s outcome—or inferred from Brave’s advertised specifications.
Who should consider Brave Firewall + VPN?
It may suit someone already using Brave who wants a single subscription intended to cover the whole device and several other devices, and who is comfortable evaluating a privacy policy and audit announcements as company-published evidence. The product’s advertised support for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows, plus its stated 10-device limit, make those features straightforward to assess against your setup.
