No. AST SpaceMobile was not profitable in its latest reported results. In the quarter ended June 30, 2026, the company reported $31.5 million in revenue and a $297.8 million consolidated net loss. For the first six months of 2026, revenue was $46.3 million and the consolidated net loss was $580.0 million.
The same filing shows $329.4 million of net cash used in operating activities during the first half of 2026. AST SpaceMobile reported substantial cash and liquidity, but it did not disclose a quarter, year, or satellite count at which it expects to break even. Its satellite deployment targets describe coverage, not profitability.
Is AST SpaceMobile profitable?
As of the latest results listed for 2026, AST SpaceMobile was loss-making. The figures come from its unaudited Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, filed August 10, 2026. They are reported results, not a forecast of the next quarter.

| Period ended June 30, 2026 | Revenue | Consolidated net income (loss) |
|---|---|---|
| Three months (second quarter) | $31.5 million | $(297.8) million |
| Six months (first half) | $46.3 million | $(580.0) million |
A negative net-income figure means expenses and other losses exceeded revenue. It does not mean every dollar of the reported loss left the bank account during that same period, because the income statement includes non-cash charges, financing items and accounting adjustments.

What made up second-quarter revenue?
Second-quarter product revenue was $24.4 million and service revenue was $7.1 million. Product and service costs together were $23.6 million. Those figures leave only a modest contribution before the much larger corporate, engineering, research and development, depreciation and satellite-related expenses recorded below gross profit.
Total operating expenses were $329.1 million in the quarter. That amount included a significant charge related to the BB7 satellite, so operating expenses cannot be treated as a normal, recurring quarterly run rate without examining the components.
How much revenue does AST SpaceMobile make?
AST SpaceMobile made $31.5 million in the second quarter of 2026 and $46.3 million in the first half. The six-month total is not simply a projection of the quarter; it includes the company’s actual first-quarter results as well.
| Revenue measure | Amount | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Q2 2026 product revenue | $24.4 million | Revenue classified as product sales for the three months ended June 30 |
| Q2 2026 service revenue | $7.1 million | Revenue classified as services for the same quarter |
| Q2 2026 total revenue | $31.5 million | Product plus service revenue |
| First-half 2026 total revenue | $46.3 million | Six-month total through June 30 |
Revenue is the amount recognized from products and services. Profit also requires covering operating expenses, financing costs, taxes and other items. Therefore, the fact that product and service revenue exceeded their direct costs in the quarter does not establish profitability for the company as a whole.
How much cash is AST SpaceMobile burning?
The clearest reported operating-burn measure is net cash used in operating activities. AST SpaceMobile used $329.4 million of operating cash in the first six months of 2026. This category covers cash effects of running the business, rather than spending on long-lived assets and satellite deployment.
The company separately used approximately $1.2 billion in investing activities during the same six-month period. Investing cash use includes capital spending and advances related to the satellite program. It should not be added to operating burn and then described as “operating cash burn.” A reader evaluating total cash consumption should look at both categories and identify which one is being discussed.
| Cash-flow measure, first half 2026 | Reported amount | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Net cash used in operating activities | $329.4 million | Cash consumed by operating activities |
| Net cash used in investing activities | Approximately $1.2 billion | Additional cash used for investment, including satellite-related capital spending and advances |
There is no single “burn” number that answers every question. Operating cash use helps assess the cash cost of the current business. Operating plus investing cash use describes a broader period of cash deployment, but it also combines recurring operations with a heavy build-out program.

Why net loss and cash burn differ
Net loss is calculated under accrual accounting; operating cash flow tracks cash receipts and payments after adjustments. A non-cash asset write-off can increase net loss without being a current-period cash payment. Conversely, cash paid for equipment or satellite construction generally appears in investing cash flow rather than operating cash flow.
In the second quarter, the loss included a $125.9 million loss on involuntary conversion for the BB7 satellite write-off, net of insurance recoveries. Removing that charge for an analytical view would not make AST SpaceMobile profitable or cash-flow positive; it would only remove one identified accounting item from the reported loss.
For the first half, other expense was $103.4 million, including $89.8 million of induced conversion expense associated with repurchases of convertible notes. Interest expense was $50.4 million, while interest income was $54.7 million. These financing and non-operating items help explain why the consolidated net loss is not a direct proxy for recurring operating cash consumption.

How much cash does AST SpaceMobile have?
At June 30, 2026, the balance sheet listed $2.288 billion in cash and cash equivalents and $6.2 million in restricted cash. In its liquidity discussion, AST SpaceMobile described approximately $2.7 billion of cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash, including $434.6 million of restricted cash.

| Liquidity figure | Amount at June 30, 2026 | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Cash and cash equivalents on the balance sheet | $2.288 billion | Balance-sheet cash category |
| Restricted cash on the balance sheet | $6.2 million | Restricted amount shown with the balance-sheet cash categories |
| Cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash in the liquidity discussion | Approximately $2.7 billion | Includes $434.6 million of restricted cash; broader liquidity presentation in the filing |
The totals differ because the balance sheet and liquidity discussion present cash categories differently. Restricted cash is not equivalent to unrestricted spending capacity: it may be subject to contractual, regulatory or other limits. Always identify which total is being quoted instead of treating $2.7 billion as freely deployable cash.
“We believe our cash and cash equivalents on hand will be sufficient to meet our current working capital needs, planned operating expenses and capital expenditures for a period of the next 12 months from the date of this Quarterly Report.”
This is management’s statement in the quarterly filing. It is a 12-month liquidity assessment, not a promise of profitability, a guarantee that costs will not rise, or evidence that the company has reached break-even.
When will AST SpaceMobile break even?
AST SpaceMobile’s June 30, 2026 filing does not provide a break-even date, a target profitability quarter, or a satellite count tied to positive earnings or positive cash flow. A defensible date cannot be calculated from the disclosed figures alone.
Why satellite counts are not break-even thresholds
The company discusses satellite numbers in terms of service coverage:
- 25 satellites to cover its most commercially attractive mobile-network-operator markets.
- 45 to 60 satellites for continuous service in key markets such as the United States, Europe and Japan.
- Approximately 90 satellites for additional worldwide strategic markets.
These are company beliefs about network deployment and coverage. They do not state how much revenue each satellite will produce, what margin that revenue will carry, or whether the resulting revenue will cover engineering, operations, administration, financing and replacement costs.
AST SpaceMobile also says it believes it is fully funded for manufacturing and launching approximately 90 satellites. Funding a deployment is different from earning a profit from it. The statement does not establish when the deployed network will generate positive net income or operating cash flow.
Satellite cost assumptions add uncertainty
For a constellation exceeding 90 satellites, AST SpaceMobile estimates average direct materials and launch cost of $21 million to $23 million per Block 2 satellite. That estimate is conditional on favorable future launch contracts, supplier diversification, scale savings and process improvements. The company warns that the actual average cost could be materially higher if those assumptions do not hold.

What would a real break-even analysis require?
Break-even is not one number unless the definition is specified. An analyst should separate at least four layers:
- Gross margin: the difference between product and service revenue and the direct costs required to deliver them.
- Recurring operating costs: engineering, research and development, network operations, general and administrative expense and depreciation.
- Deployment investment: satellite manufacturing, launches, ground infrastructure and related advances, generally reflected in investing cash flow.
- Financing and other non-operating items: interest, induced conversion expense, insurance effects, asset write-offs and other items that affect consolidated earnings or cash.
To calculate a projected break-even point, a model would need disclosed or supportable assumptions for subscriber or partner volumes, pricing, revenue timing, gross margin, satellite operating costs, launch and manufacturing spending, overhead, financing and working-capital changes. The reviewed filing does not provide a complete forward set of those inputs, so any precise break-even year would be speculative.
How to read AST SpaceMobile’s results without mixing measures
Use the income statement for profitability
Start with revenue, operating expenses and consolidated net income or loss. For Q2 2026, the relevant headline is $31.5 million of revenue versus a $297.8 million consolidated net loss. Then inspect unusual charges, such as the $125.9 million BB7 write-off net of insurance recoveries.
Use the cash-flow statement for cash consumption
For operating cash demand, use the $329.4 million of net cash used in operating activities for the first half. Add investing cash use only when discussing the broader cash required for the company’s expansion program, and label the result accordingly.
Use the balance sheet for liquidity
Quote $2.288 billion of cash and cash equivalents when referring to the balance-sheet line. Quote approximately $2.7 billion only when describing the filing’s broader liquidity discussion, which includes $434.6 million of restricted cash. Do not assume all restricted cash is available for ordinary expenses.
Use deployment milestones for network capability
The 25-, 45-to-60- and approximately 90-satellite figures answer coverage questions. They do not answer the financial question of when revenue will exceed all cash and non-cash costs.
What the latest numbers mean for readers
AST SpaceMobile had meaningful liquidity relative to its reported revenue, but it was still investing heavily and recording substantial losses. The first-half operating cash use of $329.4 million and investing cash use of approximately $1.2 billion show why cash on hand and profitability must be evaluated separately.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe company’s own 12-month liquidity statement indicates that management expected available cash and cash equivalents to cover current working capital, planned operating expenses and capital expenditures for that period from the filing date. That outlook does not remove execution risk, launch-cost risk, financing risk or the possibility that operating needs change.
The accurate conclusion from the June 30, 2026 results is therefore limited but clear: AST SpaceMobile was not profitable, was consuming operating cash, held billions of dollars of reported cash and broader liquidity, and had not disclosed when it would reach break-even.
