Yes, conditionally. ARC Raiders is a worthwhile purchase for a solo-oriented player who likes extraction runs, scavenging, crafting, exploration and occasional encounters with human opponents. It is not a substitute for an offline campaign: the game is online-only, and other Raiders can cooperate with you, ignore you or attack you. A temporary PvE Toggle Beta Test running October 13–20, 2026 makes the solo proposition stronger right now, but there is no established permanent PvE-only mode after the test.
What ARC Raiders actually offers a solo player
ARC Raiders is an online multiplayer extraction adventure. You can enter a raid alone, without teammates, and the official PlayStation FAQ describes that format directly: “ARC Raiders is an online, multiplayer-only game but it can be played solo, as one Raider going Topside, as well as in teams of two or three.” Solo therefore means one human-controlled Raider in a shared online raid, not a private offline campaign.
Before going Topside, you craft, repair and upgrade equipment in Speranza. On the surface, you search for resources, complete quests, fight ARC machines and decide how to handle other survivors. You can leave with what you found by extracting, or accept the risk of staying longer for better opportunities. Steam characterizes the experience as a combination of machine threats and “the unpredictable choices of fellow survivors.” That uncertainty is the defining solo experience.

A PC Gamer review published November 6, 2025 gave it 86 and called it a genuinely enjoyable extraction shooter built around interesting weapons, beautiful maps and unpredictable PvPvE encounters. Those are useful indicators of quality, but they do not remove the central question for a solo buyer: whether you enjoy sharing a dangerous map with strangers.

How a solo raid works
Prepare in Speranza
Each run starts with decisions about equipment and supplies. The hub is where you craft, repair and upgrade gear, then choose what to risk on the next trip. A solo player has no teammate to revive, cover a retreat or carry spare equipment, so every item brought into a raid represents a personal risk. The trade-off is complete control over your loadout and route.
Scavenge and complete objectives
Topside combines exploration with resource collection and quests. ARC machines provide the predictable part of the challenge: you can observe their presence, choose when to engage and use the environment to manage risk. Valuable loot and objectives create reasons to move through contested areas rather than simply heading for extraction.
Read the human players
Other Raiders are neither automatically enemies nor reliable allies. You may encounter nobody, exchange a “don’t shoot” understanding, cooperate briefly or fight. PC Gamer’s review reported that solo play was often more peaceful, including matches in which the reviewer saw no other player. That does not make the game PvE-only; it means the social pressure can vary considerably from raid to raid.
Choose when to extract
Extraction is the point at which a successful run becomes valuable. Staying longer can produce more loot, quest progress or resources, but it also gives machines and other players more chances to end the run. The solo decision is not simply whether you can win a fight; it is whether the additional reward justifies exposing everything already collected.

What feels good about playing alone
- A controllable pace: You can search, fight machines or reposition without coordinating with a squad. When a raid is quiet, the rhythm can be methodical rather than frantic.
- Meaningful exploration: Atmospheric maps and substantial ARC machine encounters give solo players reasons to learn routes, recognize danger and plan an extraction.
- Flexible social encounters: You retain the option to avoid a fight, cooperate with a stranger or take a confrontation when the reward is worth it.
- Progress after failure: PC Gamer reported that experience points and resources can still progress when a player fails to extract. Losing a run therefore does not necessarily erase all advancement, which makes experimentation less punishing than in some harsher extraction games.
- A forgiving entry point: The same review described ARC Raiders as more forgiving than the most severe extraction games. That does not remove risk, but it can make learning the systems less discouraging for a newcomer playing without a regular squad.
These strengths favor players who enjoy a repeatable loop instead of a fixed sequence of story missions. You are building familiarity with maps, equipment and threats over multiple attempts, not completing a self-contained single-player campaign once.
Where solo players will feel the drawbacks
Solo is still online
The game requires an online connection and shared multiplayer infrastructure. There is no evidence of an offline mode in the supplied platform descriptions. If you want to play during an outage, avoid all other players or progress without a service connection, ARC Raiders does not meet that need.
Other Raiders can change a run instantly
A quiet scavenging trip can become a PvP encounter near valuable loot or an extraction point. You may be outnumbered by a duo or trio, or simply lose because another player chose a more aggressive approach. Conversely, a stranger may ignore you or cooperate. This variability is the source of the game’s tension and its largest solo-specific frustration.

There is no permanent guarantee of PvE-only progression
The current PvE option is explicitly a beta test, not a confirmed permanent playlist. Anyone buying solely to avoid PvP should treat the test as a temporary benefit and make the purchase decision on the assumption that ordinary raids will continue to include human Raiders.

Solo responsibility is concentrated
In a team, players can divide attention, share supplies and recover from a mistake. Alone, you make every navigation, combat and extraction decision yourself. The game’s forgiving progression helps after a failure, but it does not replace the tactical advantages of having partners.
The October 2026 PvE Toggle Beta Test
The official ARC Raiders site lists a “PvE Toggle Beta Test: October 13-20.” PC Gamer’s October 14, 2026 report says the toggle allows players to explore, fight ARC machines and help other Raiders without worrying that a nearby player will shoot them. For a primarily solo player, this changes the immediate experience: you can learn maps, practice against machines and complete objectives without monitoring every human contact.
The qualification matters. The test is temporary, and no authoritative source establishes that a permanent PvE-only mode will remain after October 20, 2026. It should be treated as a current bonus rather than a promised long-term feature. If you are reading this during the test window, it is a particularly good time to evaluate whether the movement, combat, crafting and extraction loop appeal to you. If you are reading after the window, confirm the game’s current playlist options before buying; do not assume the toggle is still available.

Is the PvP pressure too high for a solo player?
| Solo-player preference | How ARC Raiders fits | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| You enjoy occasional danger and emergent encounters | Human players may be absent, cooperative or hostile, especially around valuable loot and extraction. | Good fit |
| You want mostly calm exploration with machine combat | Solo matches can be peaceful, and the October 13–20 PvE test removes player attacks temporarily. | Good fit during the test; verify options afterward |
| You cannot tolerate another player ending a run | Standard raids remain shared online spaces with unpredictable survivors. | Poor fit |
| You want guaranteed PvE-only progression | No permanent PvE-only mode has been established. | Wait or skip unless the current toggle is sufficient |
| You want a private, offline campaign | The game is online-only and multiplayer-only, even though solo entry is supported. | Not a fit |
The most useful distinction is between “I prefer playing alone” and “I require a protected single-player environment.” ARC Raiders supports the first preference, not the second.
Value, price and platform requirements
Price context
PC Gamer listed an expected launch price of $40 in the United States and £30 in the United Kingdom in its November 6, 2025 review. Steam currently lists standard and Deluxe editions, but the displayed price is region-specific and can change. Check the store page for your currency and edition before purchase rather than treating the launch figures as a current universal price.
PlayStation requirements
On PlayStation, PlayStation Plus Essential is required for online multiplayer. The platform page states that up to 21 online players are supported simultaneously. That figure describes the supported online session capacity, not a promise that every raid will contain 21 visible opponents.

Steam features and requirements
Steam lists online PvP, online co-op, cross-platform multiplayer, in-game purchases and kernel-level anti-cheat. These labels tell you what kind of service you are buying into: multiplayer connectivity is fundamental, cross-platform play is supported, optional in-game purchases exist, and anti-cheat operates at the kernel level. Players who avoid always-online games, cross-platform services or kernel-level anti-cheat should review those requirements before purchasing.

How the review and player ratings should be read
Steam showed 81% positive English-language reviews from 202,228 reviews and 71% positive recent reviews from 5,926 reviews when accessed on October 16, 2026. The broader lifetime figure and the recent figure measure different time windows, so neither is a guarantee for a particular solo player. Together with PC Gamer’s 86 score, they indicate a generally favorable reception while leaving room for individual disagreement about PvP pressure, live-service design and online requirements.

Buy now if these statements describe you
- You want a repeatable loop of scavenging, crafting, quests, upgrades and extraction rather than a one-time story.
- You are comfortable entering an online raid alone and accepting that another player may alter the outcome.
- You enjoy learning atmospheric maps and fighting ARC machines as much as fighting human opponents.
- You see cooperation with strangers as an interesting possibility, not an obligation.
- You can accept that a run may end unsuccessfully while some experience or resources still advance.
- You are buying during the October 13–20, 2026 PvE Toggle Beta Test and want a calmer way to learn the game, while understanding that the option may disappear.
Wait or skip if these statements describe you
- You need an offline campaign that works without an internet connection.
- You want permanently predictable, PvE-only progression.
- You find it unacceptable for a human opponent to interrupt exploration or end an extraction attempt.
- You prefer a complete, fixed story to a changing live-service loop.
- You do not want a console online subscription, cross-platform multiplayer, in-game purchases or kernel-level anti-cheat.
A practical solo-player buying checklist
- Define your tolerance for PvP. Decide whether occasional hostile encounters are exciting, acceptable or disqualifying. Do not use the word “solo” to mean “offline” unless that is exactly what you require.
- Check the current mode list. If you are considering the game during October 13–20, 2026, look for the PvE Toggle Beta Test. After that period, verify whether any equivalent option remains; no permanent mode is confirmed.
- Confirm your platform costs. On PlayStation, include PlayStation Plus Essential for online multiplayer. On Steam, review the current regional price, edition, cross-platform status, in-game purchases and kernel-level anti-cheat notice.
- Choose the right expectation for progression. A failed extraction can still leave you with experience or resources, according to PC Gamer, but you should not assume every item or objective survives a failed run.
- Start with learning rather than maximum loot. Use early raids to understand machine behavior, routes and extraction decisions. The solo advantage is control over your pace, not immunity from danger.
- Reassess after several raids. If the tension of reading other players is enjoyable, the core loop is likely a good match. If every encounter feels like an interruption, the game’s online structure will remain frustrating even when the PvE test is available.
How ARC Raiders compares with the solo alternatives you may be seeking
ARC Raiders occupies a specific middle ground. It is more social and less predictable than a conventional single-player action game, but it can be calmer and more forgiving than extraction games built around constant high-pressure PvP. The relevant comparison is not simply “solo or multiplayer.” Ask five narrower questions:
- Solo safety: Are encounters peaceful, mixed or routinely hostile?
- Extraction pressure: How much danger surrounds valuable loot and the exit?
- PvE quality: Do machine enemies provide enough depth to justify a run without human combat?
- Progression depth: Are crafting, quests and upgrades substantial enough to support repeated raids?
- Mode permanence: Is offline or PvE-only play a permanent feature or a temporary event?
On the evidence available, ARC Raiders scores well for mixed solo safety, atmospheric PvE and repeatable progression, while it does not satisfy a requirement for permanent offline or PvE-only play. That distinction should guide your purchase more than a review score alone.
Bottom line for a mostly solo player
ARC Raiders is worth buying if “mostly solo” means you want to enter raids alone, set your own pace and occasionally deal with unpredictable human survivors. Its crafting, quests, exploration, machine combat and forgiving progression give a lone player a complete loop, and the temporary PvE toggle makes learning and relaxed play easier through October 20, 2026.
It is not worth buying if you mean “single-player only.” The game is online-only and multiplayer-only, standard raids can include hostile Raiders, and no permanent PvE-only mode is established. Buy it for the tension of a shared extraction world, not in the hope that it will behave like an offline campaign.
