Is ARC Raiders free to play? No. ARC Raiders is a paid game outside limited promotions. A free-play event ran from October 8 at 09:00 UTC through October 12 at 08:00 UTC, 2026, but that event has ended. The promotion offered the full game for a trial period; it did not change ARC Raiders into a permanently free-to-play title.
You can play on PC (Steam or Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or through GeForce NOW. The game is online multiplayer-only, supports solo runs and teams of two or three, and allows social play between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
What the October 2026 free-play event actually offered
Embark Studios announced a time-limited opportunity to play ARC Raiders without buying it first. The window began on October 8, 2026, at 09:00 UTC and ended on October 12, 2026, at 08:00 UTC. As of October 17, 2026, that window is closed, so a new player must purchase the game unless another promotion is announced.
The event was broader than a demo. Embark described it as access to the full game so players could try the extraction adventure before buying. The announcement said: “Free play will grant access to the full ARC Raiders game, so you can try out the award-winning extraction adventure before you buy!”

Embark’s free-play terms also said that progress and purchases made during the event would carry over if the player later bought the full game. That makes the event a temporary try-before-you-buy period, not evidence of a permanent free-to-play model.
A regional PlayStation charge
In Germany, the official notice stated that PlayStation 5 players paid a €0.25 fee during the event. That was a condition of that specific promotion and region; it is not a current universal price for ARC Raiders.
Is ARC Raiders free to play now?
No. The normal model is a paid purchase, with the amount determined by the storefront, edition and region. The official material reviewed does not establish one universal current price, so avoid relying on a global price list or an old promotion page.
For the amount that applies to you, open the store for your own platform and check the live ARC Raiders listing. A store page is the authoritative place to confirm currency, taxes, editions, discounts, refund rules and any local requirements. Prices can differ between PC stores, console stores and countries.

What platforms is ARC Raiders on?
The official ARC Raiders website lists these ways to play:

There is no supported PS4 version in the cited PlayStation listing. Do not assume that an older console can run the PS5 release through backward compatibility unless Sony’s local store page explicitly says so.
Does ARC Raiders have crossplay?
Yes for social play between the supported PC, PlayStation and Xbox families. Embark says ARC Raiders “supports seamless social play across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.” In practical terms, friends using those platform families can form a social group and play together even when they bought the game on different hardware.
That statement confirms cross-platform social play, but it does not by itself confirm every account or matchmaking detail. The reviewed official pages do not establish whether you can disable crossplay, select a platform-specific matchmaking pool, transfer progress between platforms, or carry purchases from one store account to another. Check the in-game settings and the current support documentation for those functions rather than assuming they exist.

What crossplay does not guarantee
- It does not make the game available on PS4 or other unlisted hardware.
- It does not mean one purchase automatically unlocks every storefront version.
- It does not confirm cross-progression, shared inventories or linked-currency rules.
- It does not remove the need for the platform account and Embark ID required by the terms.
Can you play ARC Raiders solo?
Yes, but “solo” means entering the online game alone. ARC Raiders is an online multiplayer-only extraction adventure set on a future Earth threatened by hostile machines and rival Raiders. The official PlayStation FAQ says a run can be played solo or in teams of two or three.
A solo run therefore does not provide an offline campaign with disconnected play. You still need an internet connection, the game’s online services and the accounts required by your platform and Embark. You are choosing not to enter with a pre-made teammate, not switching the game into an offline mode.
Choosing a group size
- Solo: You queue or deploy by yourself and make your own decisions about movement, objectives and extraction.
- Two players: A duo can coordinate while sharing the risks and rewards of an extraction run.
- Three players: A full three-person team gives you the largest supported party size stated by the PlayStation FAQ.
The official descriptions establish these party sizes, but they do not promise a particular automatic-fill behavior for every queue. Read the current in-game matchmaking labels before launching a run if you want to know whether unfilled team slots will remain empty or receive another player.

Do you need PS Plus to play ARC Raiders?
On PlayStation, Sony’s US ARC Raiders page says PS Plus Essential is required for online multiplayer. Because ARC Raiders is online multiplayer-only, a PS5 player should plan on that subscription requirement in addition to buying the game, unless Sony changes the rule or a local store page states a regional exception.

Do not automatically apply the PS Plus rule to Xbox or PC. Xbox online-service requirements, PC account requirements and GeForce NOW membership conditions can differ by platform and country. Verify the requirement shown in your local store before paying.
Accounts and connection requirements
Embark’s terms require an internet connection, an Embark ID and a third-party platform account. The third-party account is the account for the storefront or console network through which you access the game. Set up or sign in to those accounts before troubleshooting a launch failure; buying the game alone does not replace the account and connectivity requirements.
- Reliable internet access is required; there is no documented offline mode in the cited official descriptions.
- An Embark ID is required under the game’s terms.
- Your Steam, Epic, PlayStation or Xbox account must be able to access the relevant store and online service.
- On PS5, confirm that your account has the PS Plus Essential entitlement required for online multiplayer in the US listing.
How to buy ARC Raiders after the free event
- Choose the platform. Decide whether you will use Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S or GeForce NOW. If your friends play elsewhere, choose a platform included in the official cross-platform social-play statement.
- Open the platform’s official store. Search for ARC Raiders and verify that the listing is the current release for your hardware. On PlayStation, make sure it is the PS5 product rather than a PS4 listing.
- Check the live price and edition. Confirm the currency, taxes, edition contents and any time-limited discount shown in your country. There is no single official price that applies worldwide.
- Review online-service requirements. On PS5, look for the PS Plus Essential requirement identified on Sony’s US page. On other platforms, follow the requirement displayed by the local store.
- Install and sign in. Use your platform account and complete the Embark ID requirement from the terms. Keep the same accounts connected if you want your social contacts and in-game access to remain consistent.
- Invite friends from the supported families. Cross-platform social play covers PlayStation, Xbox and PC, but use the current in-game invite and account-linking screens for the exact process.

ARC Raiders combines two sources of danger: machine threats in the environment and other human-controlled Raiders. The extraction format gives each run a risk-and-reward shape: you enter an online session, deal with threats and objectives, and try to get out with what you earned. The official descriptions establish the setting and multiplayer format, but they do not promise a particular solo difficulty, map rotation, progression rate or matchmaking formula.

Players looking for a traditional offline story campaign should adjust expectations. The cited PlayStation FAQ explicitly calls the game online multiplayer-only. Solo support means you can make a run without bringing a teammate; it is not a separate single-player product.
Troubleshooting common purchase and access problems
The store still shows a price after you saw “free play” coverage
Check the date of the promotion. The documented event ended October 12, 2026, at 08:00 UTC. A store charging for the game after that time is consistent with the normal paid model, not evidence that your account is broken.
You cannot find a PS4 download
The official PlayStation listing identifies ARC Raiders as a PS5 game and says it is not available for PS4. Use a supported PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S or GeForce NOW route instead.
You bought the game but cannot enter a session
Confirm that your internet connection is working, your platform account is signed in and your Embark ID is available. On PS5, check the PS Plus Essential entitlement shown for online multiplayer in the US listing. If you are on Xbox, PC or GeForce NOW, follow the requirement shown by that platform’s current local listing rather than applying the PlayStation rule.
Your friend is on another platform
PlayStation, Xbox and PC are included in Embark’s cross-platform social-play statement. Use the game’s current friend or invite flow, and do not assume that a shared platform automatically means shared purchases or cross-progression; those details were not confirmed by the cited pages.
Bottom line for a new player
ARC Raiders is not permanently free to play. The October 8–12, 2026 full-game trial has ended, and the regular route is a paid purchase from your platform’s store. You can choose Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S or GeForce NOW; play alone or in a team of two or three; and socialize across PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
