A headline attributed to The Wall Street Journal says Amazon is in talks to buy AI startup Decart, but the original WSJ report could not be independently verified from the available reporting. Earlier coverage named Amazon as a possible interested buyer; later reports said Anthropic was in acquisition talks. No deal or purchase price is confirmed.
What is known about the reported Amazon talks?
A Reddit repost surfaced on October 11, 2026, with a headline attributing to The Wall Street Journal a report that Amazon was in talks to buy Decart for about $7 billion. The original WSJ article was not available in the search results, so its reporting, sourcing, and valuation could not be independently checked. The claim should therefore be treated as unverified, not as confirmation of active negotiations.
Amazon has a documented business connection to Decart: Amazon’s official second-quarter 2026 results list Decart among startups that committed to use Trainium. That disclosure establishes an infrastructure relationship, not acquisition talks.

These reports do not establish that Amazon and Anthropic made simultaneous bids. They describe different points in time and use different levels of certainty: Calcalist initially named Amazon as a possible interested company, while Reuters later reported Anthropic talks based on a source familiar with the matter.

What does Decart do?
Decart describes itself as a real-time generative AI company. Reuters characterized its Lucy model as able to edit live video in real time. These are company and media descriptions; the available reporting does not provide independent performance testing.
Decart’s media room lists a March 18, 2026 announcement about a collaboration with Comcast and NVIDIA on real-time AI experiences, as well as a December 19, 2024 release announcing $32 million in funding. The funding figure refers to that announced raise, not a valuation or acquisition price.

What would confirm a deal?
Neither a reported discussion nor an infrastructure commitment establishes that an acquisition has been agreed. Confirmation would require a company announcement or other reliable reporting that clearly distinguishes active talks from interest, and states whether the parties signed an agreement or completed a transaction. Until then, the reported Amazon talks, the relationship between the Amazon and Anthropic accounts, and any definitive valuation remain unresolved.
