Sometimes—but the model name alone is not enough to justify a purchase. A refurbished Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 can be an excellent compact office, home-server, study, or everyday desktop when the listing has the right Ryzen processor, adequate dual-channel memory, a suitable SSD, the ports and accessories you need, and credible return and warranty protection. The same model can be poor value when it contains a low-end processor, one small memory module, limited storage, missing mounting hardware, an uncertain Windows license, or little protection from the seller.

Lenovo’s platform reference covers a wide range of configurations. Evaluate the exact machine type, CPU, RAM layout, storage, operating system, condition, included accessories, total delivered price, and coverage before deciding.

What the ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 is

The M75q Gen 2 is a Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny desktop built around a roughly one-litre chassis. Lenovo lists dimensions of approximately 179 × 183 × 34.5/37 mm and an approximate weight of 1.25 kg, with dimensions and weight varying by configuration. Its small footprint makes it suitable for a desk shelf, a monitor stand, a reception counter, or a VESA-mounted workstation when the required mounting parts are included.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is a business-oriented compact PC rather than a gaming system. The platform uses integrated AMD Radeon graphics and supports office and display workloads, but no benchmark, noise measurement, power test, or gaming result establishes how a particular refurbished unit performs. Treat the graphics hardware as an advantage for productivity and multiple monitors, not as proof that the machine is suitable for modern graphics-heavy games or professional 3D work.

Why the exact configuration matters more than “M75q Gen 2”

Lenovo’s June 9, 2026 Product Specifications Reference lists processors from Athlon models and Ryzen 3 through Ryzen 7. That range is large enough to change the buying decision. A listing with an Athlon or entry-level Ryzen 3 is not equivalent to one with a six-core Ryzen 5 PRO or an eight-core Ryzen 7 PRO, even though both may be advertised simply as an M75q Gen 2.

Processor choices

Processor example Cores / threads What the specification tells you
AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650GE 6 / 12 A six-core, 12-thread platform option
AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 5650GE 6 / 12 A later six-core, 12-thread platform option
AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5750GE 8 / 16 The listed eight-core, 16-thread option

These are examples of processors Lenovo supports in the platform, not a promise that every refurbished listing contains one. Ask the seller for a photograph of the BIOS screen, a system-information report, or the complete machine type/model showing the installed CPU. Do not infer the processor from a vague title such as “Ryzen 5 desktop”; request the exact model.

Memory capacity and channel layout

The M75q Gen 2 has two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots and supports dual-channel operation. Lenovo lists support for up to 64 GB of DDR4-3200 memory, although effective memory speed can depend on the processor. A 16 GB configuration made from two 8 GB modules generally gives the platform dual-channel operation, while a 16 GB configuration made from one 16 GB module leaves one slot unused and may reduce memory bandwidth.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Confirm both the total capacity and the module layout. If the computer will run browsers, office applications, video calls, and light development tools, 16 GB is a practical starting point. Heavy multitasking, virtual machines, large datasets, and content-creation software make 32 GB or more attractive. The two-slot design also means an upgrade may require replacing existing modules rather than simply adding a third stick.

Storage and drive hardware

Lenovo describes support for an M.2 SSD and a 2.5-inch drive, with platform support for up to two drives. A refurbisher may install only one of them. Confirm the SSD’s type and capacity, whether a 2.5-inch bay is present, and whether the bracket and cable needed for a second drive are included. A bare bay without its mounting hardware does not provide a ready expansion path.

Ask for the installed drive model or a system report rather than accepting “fast storage” in the listing. Also ask whether the drive is new, reused, or replaced during refurbishment. The platform specification establishes compatibility, not the health or remaining life of the drive in a particular unit.

Display, network, and USB connectivity

Standard connectivity includes HDMI 1.4b, DisplayPort 1.4, Gigabit Ethernet, front USB-C data, and USB-A ports. Lenovo also lists optional rear-port configurations, so the exact rear panel can differ between machines. If you need a specific monitor connector, serial port, extra DisplayPort output, or a particular USB arrangement, request a clear photograph of the actual rear panel before buying.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Lenovo lists support for up to three independent displays using the onboard and optional ports. That is useful for spreadsheets, monitoring dashboards, and office workflows. It is a display-connection capability, not a performance benchmark; resolution and refresh-rate combinations still depend on the installed configuration and the monitors.

Operating-system options

The platform reference includes Windows 11 Home and Pro, Windows 10 variants, Ubuntu Linux, IGEL Linux, and no preloaded operating system. A refurbished unit can therefore arrive with a different OS from another listing—or with no OS at all. Verify exactly what is installed, whether Windows activation is legitimate, and whether the seller supplies a license or recovery process. Lenovo’s platform list does not establish the OS or license status of an individual used machine.

When a refurbished M75q Gen 2 is worth buying

Because no current marketplace price or universal refurbishment standard is established, the decision must be based on the individual listing. A unit is a strong candidate when all of the following are true:

  • The exact CPU matches the workload, with the core and thread count clearly documented.
  • Memory capacity is sufficient, and two modules provide dual-channel operation or the price leaves room for a sensible upgrade.
  • The SSD has enough capacity and a second-drive bay includes its bracket and cable if you plan to use it.
  • The HDMI, DisplayPort, USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth configuration fits your equipment.
  • The power adapter, stand or VESA parts, and any required display adapters are included.
  • The operating system and activation status are explicit.
  • Photos and the seller’s description accurately represent cosmetic condition.
  • A meaningful return window and seller warranty protect you if the unit arrives faulty or unlike the listing.
  • The total cost, including shipping, tax, and any required upgrades, compares favorably with other current compact desktops in your market.

It is less attractive when the seller will not identify the CPU, hides the rear ports, omits the adapter, offers no practical return route, or prices a low-spec configuration close to a newer system.

  1. Start with the listing price.
  2. Add shipping, tax, and any required power adapter or display adapter.
  3. Add the cost of memory if the supplied capacity or channel layout is inadequate.
  4. Add an SSD or 2.5-inch mounting hardware if storage is too small or the expansion parts are missing.
  5. Account for the value of a return window and seller warranty. A cheaper machine with no protection can cost more if a drive or power supply fails.
  6. Compare that total with similarly configured compact desktops, using CPU generation and core/thread count—not just the product name—as the first comparison.

This method prevents a low advertised price from concealing a missing adapter, a small boot drive, or an upgrade bill.

Questions to ask before ordering

Send the seller a concise configuration request and keep the response with your order records. Ask for:

  • A photo or report showing the exact processor and machine type/model.
  • Total RAM, the number and size of installed SO-DIMMs, and the rated memory speed.
  • SSD type and capacity, drive-health information if available, and whether a 2.5-inch bay is populated.
  • Confirmation that the 2.5-inch bracket and data/power cable are included if the bay is empty.
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth status, plus photographs of the front and rear ports.
  • The original power adapter’s wattage and connector.
  • Whether a stand, VESA bracket, mounting screws, or display adapters are supplied.
  • The installed operating system, activation status, and whether a recovery partition or media is provided.
  • Cosmetic grade, missing panels, damaged ports, BIOS-password status, and any known faults.
  • Return period, who pays return shipping for a fault, seller warranty length, and the procedure for opening a claim.
  • The serial number or machine type/model needed to check Lenovo’s remaining warranty.

A seller who cannot answer basic configuration questions is asking you to accept unnecessary risk, regardless of how attractive the headline price looks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to check when the computer arrives

Use the return period to verify the machine, not merely to confirm that it powers on. Photograph the packaging and chassis before changing anything. Then work through this sequence:

  1. Check that the serial number and machine type/model match the order and the seller’s description.
  2. Open the system-information or BIOS screen and confirm the processor model, installed memory, and storage devices.
  3. Check whether both memory slots are occupied and whether the reported capacity matches the listing.
  4. Verify Windows activation if Windows was promised, or confirm that the supplied Linux installation boots as described.
  5. Test every USB-A and front USB-C data port with a known-good device, then test HDMI and DisplayPort with the monitors you intend to use.
  6. Connect Gigabit Ethernet and verify that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth appear when they were included in the listing.
  7. Listen for abnormal fan noise, inspect vents and ports, and check for loose panels or damage that was not disclosed.
  8. Confirm that the adapter, stand, VESA parts, and any cables listed as included are actually in the box.
  9. Run your normal workload during the return window. Do not treat a successful boot as proof that the storage, memory, networking, and display outputs are reliable.

If the CPU, storage, OS, accessories, or condition differs materially from the listing, document it immediately and use the seller’s return process rather than spending money on upgrades first.

Upgrade decisions: memory and storage

When a memory upgrade makes sense

The two SO-DIMM slots make memory expansion straightforward in principle, but compatibility and module layout matter. Upgrade when the current capacity causes paging or limits your applications, or when a single-module setup leaves performance and an upgrade slot unused. Confirm the installed module specification before ordering and use a matched pair where practical for dual-channel operation. Lenovo’s listed ceiling is 64 GB DDR4-3200, with effective speed dependent on the processor.

When to add or replace storage

An M.2 SSD is usually the simplest way to increase boot and application capacity when the installed drive is small. Use the 2.5-inch option for additional bulk storage only after confirming that the bay, bracket, cable, and suitable drive are present. If the refurbisher supplied an unknown or heavily used drive, replacing it may be preferable to adding a second drive, but make a verified backup before any migration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not buy upgrade parts until the seller confirms what is already installed. A listing may already include both drives, or it may omit the hardware needed to use the second bay.

Warranty, support, and the difference between platform specifications and a used unit

Lenovo lists several possible original base-warranty configurations for this platform, including one-year service, three-year onsite service, and no base warranty. Those choices describe how a machine could have been configured when sold new; they do not prove that a used unit retains coverage.

Check Lenovo’s warranty status using the actual serial number and machine type/model, then read the refurbisher’s terms separately. A seller warranty can be useful even when Lenovo coverage has expired, but the two protections are not interchangeable. One SKU-specific Lenovo result, 11JQ000EAU, shows an end-of-support date of 2029-11-29. That date applies to that SKU example, not to every M75q Gen 2, so verify the actual machine.

Lenovo also cautions that it reserves the right to change specifications or other product information without notice. Use the current model-specific reference and the physical machine’s serial information when resolving a discrepancy.

Comparison area What to verify
Processor Exact model, generation, cores, and threads
Memory Total capacity, one or two modules, and upgrade headroom
Storage SSD type and capacity, second-drive support, bracket, and cable
Graphics and displays Integrated graphics, available outputs, and monitor compatibility
Ports and networking USB-C data, USB-A, HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and optional rear ports
Physical installation Size, mounting method, stand, VESA parts, and adapter included
Condition Cosmetic grade, damaged ports, BIOS status, and drive history
Protection Return window, seller warranty, and remaining manufacturer warranty
Total cost Delivered price plus upgrades, tax, shipping, and required accessories

A newer desktop may be preferable if its total cost is close and it provides a faster processor, longer support horizon, or better included connectivity. Conversely, the M75q Gen 2 can remain compelling when its compact size, mounting options, and business-class configuration meet your needs at a clearly lower total cost.

Best-fit workloads and poor fits

Good fits

  • Office applications, web research, email, and video conferencing.
  • Digital signage, point-of-sale or reception duties, and other space-constrained deployments.
  • Home-server or lab projects that benefit from a tiny chassis, wired Gigabit Ethernet, and expandable memory or storage.
  • Multi-monitor productivity, provided the actual port configuration matches your displays.
  • General home computing when the CPU, RAM, SSD, and OS are clearly specified.

Use caution

  • Modern gaming, GPU-accelerated creative work, and 3D applications, because no benchmark establishes performance and the platform uses integrated graphics.
  • Workloads requiring a dedicated graphics card or high-power expansion; the Tiny form factor is not designed around that upgrade path.
  • Deployments that require a specific rear connector unless the seller photographs and confirms it.
  • Businesses that need guaranteed manufacturer coverage but cannot verify the serial number and remaining warranty.

Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them

Assuming every Ryzen 5 listing is equivalent

Ryzen 5 is a family label, not a complete specification. Require the full model, then compare core and thread count and processor generation.

Ignoring single-channel memory

Two machines with the same RAM capacity can differ in module layout. Ask whether the capacity is installed as one module or two, and budget for replacement modules if dual-channel operation matters.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Counting an empty drive bay as included storage

Platform support for two drives does not mean the refurbisher installed two drives or supplied the mounting hardware. Confirm the bay, bracket, cable, and drive separately.

Taking the operating system for granted

The platform supports multiple Windows and Linux choices, including no preloaded OS. Confirm the exact installation and activation before assuming the computer is ready to use.

Overlooking accessories

A Tiny desktop without its correct power adapter, stand, VESA hardware, or display adapter may not fit your installation. Include replacement costs in the comparison.

Trusting an original warranty description

“Three-year onsite” in a platform reference does not establish coverage on a used unit. Check the serial number and the refurbisher’s written terms.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verdict

A refurbished ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 is worth buying when the specific unit offers an appropriate processor, sufficient dual-channel memory, healthy and adequate storage, the ports and accessories your setup requires, and credible return and warranty protection at a competitive total cost. It is not worth buying solely because the listing says “M75q Gen 2.” Obtain the exact configuration first; if the seller cannot provide it, choose a listing with clearer evidence rather than gambling on the model name.
