The announcement establishes crossplay for these current PC and console versions; it does not, by itself, establish support for every legacy console edition or every type of server. Check the edition and patch installed by each player rather than assuming that an older console build has the same multiplayer features.
How V1.2 crossplay works

All participants should install the same game version before troubleshooting invitations. A console that has not received the same patch as the PC or the other console may be unable to see, join, or remain connected to the session even when the platforms themselves are supported.
What is still uncertain about dedicated servers?
Dedicated-server crossplay is the part that cannot be answered with a single version-independent yes or no. Community documentation conflicts in three ways:

Those claims cannot all describe the same release state. No official dated release note in the available material resolves the disagreement, and several configuration guides associate their instructions with V2.0 or later. Therefore, do not promise cross-platform access merely because a host panel contains a crossplay switch. Identify the version actually running on the server, read that version’s release notes, and test with one PC, one PlayStation 5, and one Xbox Series X|S account before scheduling a larger session.

Hosts expose these controls differently. One guide describes a “Crossplay Enabled” switch in a hosting-panel menu, while others place the setting in serverconfig.xml. Neither location should be treated as universal. If the panel and file show different values, stop the server, change the configuration source used by that host, and restart before testing. Do not copy an entire configuration file from a different game version; property names and supported values can change.
How to enable and test crossplay on a dedicated server
- Record the server version. Note the exact game build shown by the host panel or startup log. Compare it with the version installed on the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S clients.
- Back up the current configuration. Save the existing
serverconfig.xmlor export the panel settings so you can restore a working non-crossplay setup. - Find the host’s crossplay control. Look for a panel option labelled “Crossplay Enabled.” If the panel does not provide one, open the server’s documented configuration file and locate
ServerAllowCrossplay. Use the spelling supplied by that server build. - Set the reported prerequisites. Apply
ServerAllowCrossplay=true,EACEnabled=true, andIgnoreEOSSanctions=falseif those properties exist in your version. Keep the player cap at eight or fewer while testing, because one guide reports that a higher cap disables crossplay. - Remove modifications. Disable server-side and client-side mods, overhaul packs, and other non-vanilla content. Community guides report that mods disable crossplay.
- Save and restart. A dedicated server normally reads these values at startup. A panel value that has not been applied after a restart is not a valid test.
- Test one client from each platform. Have a PC player, PlayStation 5 player, and Xbox Series X|S player join with matching game versions. Test discovery, joining, loading into the world, and several minutes of play rather than relying only on the server appearing in a list.
- Expand the group only after the three-platform test works. If adding more players causes the session to disappear, return to the reported eight-or-fewer cap and check the server log for a version or capacity message.
If your host does not expose any crossplay option and the configuration file lacks ServerAllowCrossplay, do not invent a replacement property. That may indicate that the server build does not support the feature or uses a different configuration system. Ask the host for documentation for the exact build instead of applying settings from a different release.

For a small group that simply wants to play together, a player-hosted session is the least ambiguous route because the official V1.2 announcement directly covers it. A dedicated server is useful when persistent availability matters, but only after the provider confirms support for the build you intend to run.
Common crossplay failures and fixes
The server or session does not appear
- Verify that every client is on the same game version and edition.
- Confirm that the host actually enabled crossplay rather than changing an unused panel field.
- On a dedicated server, inspect the startup log after restarting; a rejected or unknown property indicates that the build may not recognize the setting.
- Test a new vanilla world. A modded or damaged existing save can make a working crossplay configuration look broken.
A PC player is refused during connection
- Check that Easy Anti-Cheat is installed and enabled for the PC client.
- Remove launch options, client modifications, and server modifications that alter the session.
- Close and relaunch the game after changing EAC or server settings; changing a file while the client is already running may not reload the requirement.
Crossplay works with two platforms but not three
- Confirm that the third player is on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, the platforms named in the V1.2 announcement.
- Compare patch numbers rather than assuming that automatic updates completed on every device.
- For a dedicated server, lower the configured player cap to eight or fewer while testing and keep all content vanilla.
The server starts but cross-platform players cannot join
- Check
ServerAllowCrossplay,EACEnabled, andIgnoreEOSSanctionsagainst the values reported by crossplay guides. - Make sure the server was restarted after saving the configuration.
- Verify that the server version is one for which the host explicitly supports dedicated-server crossplay. A correct-looking setting cannot add a feature absent from that build.
A modded server worked for same-platform players but fails for crossplay
Remove the mods from both the server and clients and retest with an unmodified world. Community guides state that mods disable crossplay, so same-platform success does not demonstrate cross-platform compatibility.
Version and compatibility checklist
- PC player is using the Steam edition and has the same patch as the console players.
- Console players are on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions covered by the V1.2 announcement.

- Which exact 7 Days to Die version and build does the server run?
- Does that build support crossplay on a dedicated server, not only peer-to-peer play?
- Is there a documented “Crossplay Enabled” control, or must
serverconfig.xmlbe edited? - Can the server run EAC and a player cap of eight or fewer?
- Are mods disabled for the crossplay instance?
- Can you provide the relevant release note or configuration documentation for this build?
A provider that cannot answer the version question cannot reliably confirm crossplay compatibility. Treat a panel toggle as an interface convenience, not proof that the underlying server build accepts cross-platform clients.
