iRhythm says unauthorized individuals accessed and downloaded data from certain third-party-hosted business applications between June 3 and June 8, 2026. Its October 2 update lists the types of information involved and says notifications have begun, but neither that update nor the accessible California notice record states how many people were affected. The “hundreds of thousands” scale in the original headline is not confirmed by those records.
What happened in the iRhythm breach?
iRhythm Technologies, the company behind Zio cardiac monitoring products, said it identified unauthorized activity on June 8, 2026, involving data held in certain third-party-hosted business applications. In its June 15 SEC filing, the company attributed the access to social engineering. It said it received a threat-actor communication on June 9 claiming access to sensitive information, including proprietary data and patient protected health information, and demanding payment to prevent public disclosure. iRhythm confirmed that certain data had been exfiltrated. What information did iRhythm say was involved?
The company’s October 2 update lists these categories:
- Patient name
- Contact details: address, email address, and phone number
- iRhythm patient account number
- iRhythm device serial number
- Patient insurance number
- Date of service
- Date of birth

The company said it activated its incident response plan and engaged outside cybersecurity advisors. In its June 15 filing and June 30 quarterly filing, it said it had not identified evidence of ongoing unauthorized access as of those filings. Its 10-Q also reported investigation and remediation losses in the second quarter, expected further costs including patient notifications and identity protection, and said insurance reimbursement was uncertain. On October 2, iRhythm said it began notifying affected people for whom it had contact information and established a call center at 1-844-770-7175. The company lists hours as weekdays, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Eastern, excluding major U.S. holidays. It also said it had no evidence that personal information had been or would be used to commit identity theft. - Review financial and credit activity. Check account statements and credit reports for unfamiliar transactions, accounts, or other irregular activity. iRhythm recommends obtaining free credit reports.
- Consider a fraud alert or credit freeze. iRhythm recommends considering either option for your credit files.
