To change what appears in an iPhone photo, open it in Photos and tap Edit, then Crop for a conventional crop. If you mean Apple’s separate, Apple Intelligence-powered Reframe tool, open Edit > Tools > Reframe. Crop changes the visible boundaries; Reframe adjusts perspective and is not documented as a way to recover any arbitrary scene content that was outside the original image.
Choose Crop or Reframe

Apple documents Reframe as “Use the Reframe tool to change the point of capture after you take a photo.” (Apple Support: Clean up, extend, and reframe photos on iPhone.) For extending an image beyond its original frame, Apple documents a separate Extend tool; Reframe should not be treated as a promise to generate or restore unseen scene content.
Crop or reposition the photo in Photos
- Open Photos and select the picture.
- Tap Edit, then Crop.
- Drag the crop frame’s corners or pinch to change the area retained. Dragging a corner keeps the original aspect ratio; unlock the ratio if you want to change it.
- For a fixed format, choose a preset such as Square, Wallpaper, 9:16, or 5:7.
- Tap Done to save.
There is also a quick crop while viewing a photo: pinch to zoom, tap Crop in the top-right corner, make any further adjustments, and save. Apple’s iPhone guide to cropping, rotating, flipping, and straightening covers these controls and aspect-ratio options.

- In Photos, open the image and tap Edit.
- Tap Tools, then Reframe.
- Touch and drag the photo to adjust its perspective. You can also use two fingers to pan, zoom, and rotate.
- Tap Reframe to apply the adjustment. Tap the photo to compare the reframed version with the original.
- Tap Done to save and close.
Check whether Reframe is available
Apple’s iOS 27 documentation says Apple Intelligence editing tools require an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 model or later. Apple Intelligence is not available in every language or region, and usage limits may apply. Check Apple’s iPhone photo and video editing guide and the Reframe instructions for current availability. If Reframe does not appear in the editing tools, use Crop for a standard composition change; Reframe depends on device and feature availability.

Undo an edit and sync it across devices
To undo a saved Reframe adjustment, reopen the image, go to Edit > Tools > Reframe, and tap Reset. To restore a standard crop edit, reopen Edit and tap Revert. When iCloud Photos is enabled, edits are saved across your devices, as described in Apple’s Photos editing guide.
