Using one iPhone camera view for a shoot can bring the same creative constraint as taking a pro camera out with a single lens: you commit to a perspective and make the scene work within it. On supported models, Apple lets you choose among Main camera views; an external lens attachment is a different approach that adds its own optical effect and mounting requirements.
What does “one lens” mean on an iPhone?
It can mean either choosing one of the iPhone’s built-in camera views and sticking with it, or attaching an additional optical lens to the phone. The first is a framing exercise using the phone’s own camera system. The second is accessory photography: the attachment sits in front of a phone camera and requires compatible mounting hardware.
Keeping those approaches separate matters. A selectable Main camera view is not a removable lens, and an external lens does not replace the need to choose the correct camera on the phone.

Use a single built-in Main camera view
Apple’s support guide says supported iPhones can set the Main camera’s default view to 24 mm and add 28 mm and 35 mm as secondary Main camera views. The iPhone Air has a 26 mm default and also offers 28 mm and 35 mm options. These are software-selectable views of the Main camera, not separate interchangeable optics. For a one-view exercise, select the Main camera view you want to use and resist switching to other camera options while you shoot. The constraint can prompt you to change your position, wait for a subject to move, or simplify the edges of the frame instead of reaching for a different perspective. It is a creative practice, not an automatic image-quality upgrade.
When an external iPhone lens makes sense
An add-on lens is worth considering when you want a more specialized optical effect than the built-in view provides. For example, Moment describes its Macro 75mm II as a close-up tool for details such as flowers, food, textures, and insects, with subject separation among its intended uses. Moment specifies a T-Series mount for this lens, so it is not a universal clip-on that can be attached directly to every iPhone. Its product page’s compatibility wording is not fully uniform: a chart identifies iPhone 14–17 models with a case and drop-in mount, while another feature statement says iPhone 13 and newer. Check the latest compatibility chart for your exact phone and mounting hardware before purchasing.
Moment also advises using its Pro Camera app to lock the phone to the Main camera with a mobile lens, because the native camera app may switch cameras. Treat that as the maker’s setup guidance and confirm the current app behavior for your phone and software. If the phone changes cameras, the intended lens may no longer line up with the active camera.

Choose the approach that fits the photograph

Before settling on one, ask what you want the constraint to change. If the goal is simply to compose more deliberately, choose one built-in Main view and work with it. If the subject calls for close-up detail or another distinct optical effect, research an external lens and confirm the full phone-and-mount combination. Moment’s mobile lens collection lists other categories, including wide, telephoto, fisheye, anamorphic, and macro options; their presence is not a recommendation for every photographer.

A simple way to try the constraint
- Choose the approach. Start with a built-in Main camera view unless you have a clear reason to use an external optical attachment.
- Pick one perspective for the outing. On supported iPhones, Apple documents 24 mm as the default Main view, with 28 mm and 35 mm options; iPhone Air uses a 26 mm default with 28 mm and 35 mm options. Confirm what your model supports in Apple’s camera settings guide.
- Move before changing views. Try stepping closer or farther away, shifting your angle, or waiting for the scene to change. Keep the framing constraint intentional rather than treating it as a technical rule.
- If adding a lens, check the entire setup. Verify the lens, exact iPhone model, case or mount, and app behavior. For Moment’s Macro 75mm II, consult the current compatibility details, and follow Moment’s current instructions about keeping the Main camera selected.
