Apple’s iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the U.S.; Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra was reported to launch at $2,099, making Samsung’s reported price $100 higher. Apple confirms a 5.4-inch outer display and 7.6-inch inner display, while Samsung lists an 8-inch main display. Those figures provide useful reference points, but they do not establish an overall winner: the available specifications are not equivalent performance tests, and the Samsung price is secondary reporting rather than a price stated in Samsung’s launch announcement.
Price difference: Samsung was reported $100 higher
Apple lists a U.S. starting price of $1,999 for iPhone Duo. Tom’s Guide reported a U.S. launch price of $2,099 for Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, a $100 difference with Samsung higher. Samsung’s launch announcement did not state a U.S. price, so treat the $2,099 figure as reported launch pricing, not an official price confirmed in that announcement or a current live quote. Check the seller and configuration for current pricing.

Displays: compare screen positions, not just diagonals
Apple documents both the outside and inside screens: iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. Samsung’s announcement gives an 8-inch figure for the Fold8 Ultra’s main display. The Samsung figure is only 0.4 inches larger than Apple’s inner-display figure on diagonal measurement, but the sources do not provide a like-for-like test of viewing area, aspect ratio, brightness, or image quality. Samsung’s cited announcement also does not give the cover-display size, so a full outer-screen comparison is not established.
Cameras: more megapixels do not settle image quality
Apple lists 48MP Fusion main and ultrawide cameras, with up to 2x optical-quality zoom in its product Q&A. Samsung lists a 200MP main camera and 50MP ultrawide. These specifications describe different camera systems; megapixel counts alone do not show which phone takes better photos or video. The sources cited here do not establish an independent, directly comparable camera test.

Battery and charging: the published figures measure different things
Apple describes a dual-battery architecture and rates iPhone Duo for up to 31 hours of video playback. It also lists MagSafe and Qi2 charging. Samsung specifies a 5,000mAh battery and 45W fast charging. A playback rating, battery capacity, and charging wattage are different measurements; they do not by themselves establish which phone lasts longer in everyday use or charges faster under comparable conditions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSize, build, and durability
Samsung gives the Fold8 Ultra’s weight as 215g and its thickness as 4.1mm when unfolded. Apple’s product Q&A specifies a Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover and IP68 water and dust resistance. The reviewed sources do not provide a directly comparable full set of measurements or a durability test, so these facts should not be taken as proof that one device is thinner, tougher, or more durable overall.

Availability and what the dates mean
Apple says iPhone Duo availability begins October 23, 2026. Samsung says Fold8 Ultra sales began August 7, 2026, in select markets and will expand globally. These are announcement timelines, not confirmation of stock at a particular U.S. retailer or in another country. Verify local availability and the exact storage configuration before buying.
Which specifications should guide your choice?
- Price: The reported U.S. launch-price comparison puts the Fold8 Ultra $100 above iPhone Duo, but the Samsung figure is secondary reporting and neither figure is a live quote.
- Screen use: Consider whether you care more about the documented inner and outer display sizes on iPhone Duo or the Fold8 Ultra’s announced 8-inch main display. The cited specifications do not provide a complete, directly matched display comparison.
- Camera needs: Compare the camera features you will actually use, including ultrawide and zoom; do not choose on megapixels alone.
- Battery expectations: Look for independent tests using the same conditions if runtime is decisive. The manufacturer figures here are not directly comparable.
- Availability: Confirm local stock, storage options, and current seller pricing, since regional launches and retail offers vary.
Samsung also reported that preorders for its new Galaxy Z lineup increased by more than 30% versus the prior generation in 2026; that statement applies to the lineup overall, not specifically to Fold8 Ultra. Apple reported 35% recycled content overall for iPhone Duo and said 60% renewable energy was used across its supply chain for manufacturing the device. These are company statements, not independent comparative measurements. Source: Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement and Apple’s announcement.
