Apple has reportedly raised supply-chain orders for the iPhone Duo by 30%, but applying that increase to the cited earlier estimate of 6–7 million units gives about 7.8–9.1 million—not 10 million. A report says the total supply target for the rest of 2026 remains below 10 million; “close to 10 million” is a characterization of that figure, not a precise total Apple has announced.
What the 30% report actually says
On October 12, 2026, 9to5Mac reported that China’s Securities Times said Apple had increased iPhone Duo supply-chain orders by 30%. The coverage gives earlier estimates of 6–7 million units and says total supply for the remainder of 2026 is expected to be below 10 million. It then describes the revised target as likely close to 10 million.
That last phrase is an inference in the coverage, not an exact total attributed to Apple or a precise figure stated in the underlying report. GMT EIGHT also reported a 30% order increase and a below-10-million total, attributing the information to Apple supply-chain sources in its October 10 article: GMT EIGHT’s report.

How does a 30% increase get close to 10 million?
Using the cited earlier estimate as the starting point, the arithmetic is straightforward:
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
| Earlier estimate | 30% increase | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 6 million | 1.8 million | 7.8 million |
| 7 million | 2.1 million | 9.1 million |
So the reported percentage and baseline do not, by themselves, produce 10 million. “Close to 10 million” could be a loose description of a below-10-million target, or the calculation could use a different starting point or definition of orders that the articles do not specify. The reports do not resolve which explanation applies. The supported claim is a reported 30% increase and a reported total below 10 million—not a confirmed total of 10 million.
Orders, shipment forecasts, and sales are different measures
A supply-chain order claim is not a count of phones shipped to retailers or consumers. Nor does it reveal how many units will be available for preorder. Third-party forecasts are separate estimates of shipments: The Mac Observer summarized TrendForce’s September 2026 expectation of about 5 million iPhone Duo shipments in 2026 and analyst Jeff Pu’s estimate of 6 million, revised down from 7 million.

Those forecasts cannot be substituted for the reported order figures. They concern expected shipments, while the 30% story concerns supply-chain orders; neither establishes actual consumer sales. Apple has not published an iPhone Duo production or shipment total in the reporting cited here.

MacRumors summarized earlier Jiemian News reporting that a source close to Foxconn’s supply chain put final-assembly yield slightly above 60% as of September 17, 2026, and described reported display and hinge component constraints. These are attributed supply-chain claims, not Apple manufacturing disclosures, and the yield figure is a dated snapshot that may no longer describe current production: MacRumors’ summary.

Such reported constraints may help explain why estimates and production targets are uncertain, but they do not verify a final unit total. The same caution applies to launch information: The Mac Observer’s report lists a US starting price of $1,999, preorder date of October 16, and availability date of October 23, 2026. Those dates and price do not establish how much launch inventory will be available.

What to take from the headline
- The 30% increase is attributed to Securities Times supply-chain reporting, not an Apple announcement.
- The cited baseline of 6–7 million becomes about 7.8–9.1 million after a 30% increase.
- The reported total is below 10 million; a precise 10-million target has not been established.
- Shipment forecasts and eventual consumer sales are different from supply-chain orders, and none of these figures confirms preorder stock.
