Apple says iPhone Duo preorders begin Friday, October 16, 2026, at 5 a.m. Pacific Time in more than 70 countries and regions. Availability starts October 23, with 28 additional countries and regions scheduled for October 30. Apple has announced the U.S. starting price and several core specifications, but buyers still lack key details on dimensions, durability, repair terms, full pricing, and real-world performance.
When do iPhone Duo preorders open?
Apple announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, describing it as its first foldable iPhone. Preorders open Friday, October 16, at 5 a.m. Pacific Time in more than 70 countries and regions. Availability begins October 23; 28 additional countries and regions are scheduled to get the phone beginning October 30. - Displays: 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer display.
- Chip and design: A20 Pro chip, precision hinge, dual-battery architecture, and a custom-designed vapor chamber.
- Cameras: 48MP Fusion Main and Ultra Wide rear cameras, plus additional camera features described by Apple.
- Colors and storage: Star white or night sky, with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities.
- U.S. price: Starting at $1,999, or $83.29 per month for 24 months. Apple has not provided the price of every storage configuration in the announcement.
- Accessories: The iPhone Duo Case is $79 in the U.S.; the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand is $129. Both are scheduled to be orderable October 16.
Apple also reports 35 percent recycled content overall, including 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery and 100 percent recycled titanium in the 3D-printed hinge cover. It says manufacturing uses 60 percent renewable energy across its supply chain. These are company-published figures, not independent verification.

7 things buyers still don’t know
These are unanswered details in Apple’s announcement, not evidence that the phone has a particular defect or that Apple will not publish more information. The announcement gives broad product claims, but leaves the following buyer questions open.
1. What are the folded and unfolded dimensions and weight?
Apple lists the inner and outer display sizes but does not state numerical body dimensions in folded or unfolded form, or the phone’s weight. Those measurements matter when judging pocketability, one-handed use, and how the device compares with a conventional phone.

2. How visible is the crease in normal use?
Apple says its precision hinge design minimizes crease visibility. The announcement gives no crease measurement or independent assessment, so buyers do not yet have a quantified basis for judging how noticeable the fold is across different viewing angles or lighting.

The announcement uses qualitative durability language but does not give a numerical hinge-cycle test result. Without a published rating, it is not possible to infer a tested lifespan from the announcement or treat Apple’s design description as a durability test.

4. What do repairs and warranty coverage for the display and hinge cost?
The announcement does not establish repair prices, warranty exclusions, or service turnaround for the foldable display and hinge. These details can affect the cost of ownership, and warranty or consumer-law protections can vary by country. Consult current Apple service terms and the rules in your market before buying.
5. What is the full price by storage tier and country?
The U.S. announcement provides a starting price and lists four storage capacities, but it does not give a separate price for each capacity. It also does not establish prices in other countries. Do not assume that the $1,999 starting price applies to larger storage options or that U.S. pricing converts directly into another market’s price.

6. Which carriers and sellers have financing or trade-in offers?
Apple’s launch announcement does not list individual carrier or retailer financing, trade-in conditions, stock, or delivery terms. When comparing a local offer, look at the total price for the storage tier you want, the financing term and any charges, trade-in eligibility and conditions, delivery date, and warranty and service coverage. Confirm each term with the seller; no specific offer is established by Apple’s announcement.
7. What will independent tests find about battery life and cameras?
Apple describes all-day battery life and outlines camera capabilities, but those are Apple’s claims rather than independent test results. The announcement does not establish real-world battery endurance or camera performance. Buyers who rely on those outcomes will need independent testing before treating the claims as measured results.

What the preorder announcement does—and does not—tell you
Apple CEO John Ternus called iPhone Duo “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original” and said its design shows what is possible when hardware and software are engineered together. That is the executive’s characterization, not an independent evaluation. The practical buying picture is clearer on launch dates, display sizes, configurations, and the U.S. starting price than it is on repair costs, full pricing, or everyday performance.
