First check whether your iPhone cannot join the Wi-Fi network or has joined but cannot reach the internet. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure Wi-Fi is on, and tap the network name. A blue checkmark means the iPhone joined; it does not prove the internet connection is working. Then compare with another device on the same network and try another Wi-Fi network if available.
Start by identifying what is failing
Use these comparisons before changing settings. They help distinguish an iPhone problem from a router, internet-service, or managed-network problem.
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| The iPhone cannot join one Wi-Fi network | Check whether other devices can join it. If the network is managed or unfamiliar, ask its administrator about access controls or configuration. |
| The iPhone joins, but shows “No Internet Connection” or apps cannot get online | Test the same Wi-Fi on another device. If that device also has no internet, investigate the router, modem, or service outage rather than treating this as an iPhone-only issue. |
| The iPhone fails on every Wi-Fi network you try | After the basic checks below, contact Apple Support. |
| Other devices fail on the same network too | Check the router and modem, and contact your internet service provider if the connection remains unavailable. |
Apple’s guide, “If you can’t connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone or iPad”, recommends comparing other devices and trying another network to narrow down the cause.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck the iPhone’s Wi-Fi and Airplane Mode settings
- Open Settings > Wi-Fi.
- Turn Wi-Fi on if it is off, then tap the intended network. Enter its password if prompted. Apple’s Wi-Fi connection instructions explain the join process and the blue checkmark beside a joined network.
- Make sure Airplane Mode is off. You can check it in Settings or Control Center.
- If the Wi-Fi setting is dimmed and cannot be turned on, restart the iPhone and check again.
If the iPhone joined but cannot get online
Compare another device on the same Wi-Fi
Try opening a website on a different phone, tablet, or computer connected to that network. If it also cannot get online, the issue is likely with the network or its internet service. Check the router and modem, and ask your ISP whether there is an outage if the connection does not return.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Try another Wi-Fi network
If the iPhone can connect elsewhere, the problem is probably specific to the original network’s router, settings, access policy, or internet service. If it cannot connect to any network, contact Apple after trying the reversible checks in this guide.
Check the router, modem, and network configuration
- Confirm the router and modem have power, and that the iPhone is within Wi-Fi range.
- Check whether other devices can connect and get online.
- Make sure the router firmware is current and that the router is compatible with the iPhone.
- If the router offers more than one Wi-Fi band, try another supported band, such as 5 GHz instead of 2.4 GHz.
- Restart the router and cable modem by unplugging them, then reconnecting them. Wait for them to come back online before testing the iPhone again.
On a school, workplace, hotel, or other managed network, access controls, a hidden network name, or network configuration can affect whether the iPhone sees or joins the network. Ask the administrator for the correct network details and whether the device needs approval. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking router compatibility, firmware, power, and range; it does not make router replacement a first step.

Test VPN or security software only if you use it
A VPN or security app can be relevant when Wi-Fi problems began after installing or changing it. Apple recommends uninstalling the VPN or security software, restarting the iPhone, and testing the connection. If that test points to software you need, contact its administrator or provider for help restoring a working configuration.

Private Wi-Fi Address helps limit tracking across networks, so it should generally remain enabled on networks that support it. If you cannot join, reach network resources, or use certain software with a private address, first update the iPhone’s software. Some organizations may need to update their Wi-Fi security or use managed profiles. Apple explains the feature and compatibility considerations in “Use private Wi-Fi addresses on Apple devices”.

To inspect the setting for a particular network, open Settings > Wi-Fi and tap that network’s information button. Available labels and options can vary by software version and network. Change the setting only if the network’s administrator or compatibility issue gives you a reason to do so; the iPhone User Guide’s Wi-Fi settings instructions describe per-network controls.

Apple Support states: “Reset network settings only if other solutions fail.” A reset removes saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords and resets cellular, VPN, and APN settings. If the iPhone is used for school or work, check with IT before resetting so you do not lose settings needed to connect.
