If an iPhone app is stuck on “Installing…,” first touch and hold its Home Screen icon and tap Prioritize Download, if that option appears. If it still does not move, restart the iPhone. Then use the checks below to identify whether the problem is a queued download, Apple service or network access, account verification, an installation restriction, storage, or the app itself.
Start with the two quickest fixes
- Prioritize the app. From the Home Screen, touch and hold the affected app icon, then tap Prioritize Download in the menu if it appears. Apple recommends this when an app download or update is not progressing; it can move that app ahead of other queued downloads. Apple’s download troubleshooting steps.
- Restart your iPhone. After it turns back on, check whether the app has finished downloading or updating. Apple includes restarting among its recommended steps for this problem. Apple Support.
If neither step helps, look at the scope of the problem before repeating them. A single stalled app is a different clue from several apps that will not download, and a connection problem affecting multiple devices may not be an iPhone issue.
Check whether the issue is a queue, a service outage, or the network
Is only one app stalled?
If other apps download normally, the selected app may be waiting behind another download or may have an app-specific download or compatibility issue. Try prioritizing it. If it finishes installing but then will not open or work, use the app troubleshooting steps below.

Are several Apple downloads or services affected?
Check Apple System Status and connectivity guidance for an issue with the relevant Apple service. A status problem can explain why downloads are not progressing; changing settings on the iPhone will not resolve an Apple-side outage.

Test the connection and compare devices
- Open a web page on the iPhone. If it does not load, try the same network on another device.
- If the other device also has no internet, the problem may be with the network. Apple suggests restarting the Wi-Fi router when other devices on that network cannot connect.
- If other devices work but the iPhone does not, check the iPhone’s Wi-Fi connection and consider whether a VPN or third-party security app is interfering.
- If possible, connect the iPhone to a different network. Apple specifically recommends trying another network when it is available. If you are using cellular, make sure cellular data is enabled for the App Store.

Resolve Apple Account, payment, or verification prompts
Open the App Store and check for an alert or sign-in prompt. Apple says a valid payment method may be required even for a free app. If you see “billing problem with previous purchase” or “verification required,” follow the prompt to resolve the account issue, then try the download again. Some apps in some countries or regions also require age confirmation. The exact requirement depends on the app and region. Apple’s download guidance.

Check whether Screen Time blocks app installation
On the iPhone, look under Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, then review the iTunes & App Store Purchases controls for a restriction on installing apps. If the iPhone belongs to a child in a Family Sharing group, a parent or organizer may manage these controls. Menu names and paths can vary between iOS versions. Apple’s iPhone User Guide also describes App Store settings, including a cellular-data control.
Consider available storage and app-specific problems
Check storage as a diagnostic step
If the iPhone is nearly full, check available space in Settings before trying again. Limited storage is a reasonable issue to investigate, but Apple’s cited storage guidance concerns iOS updates; it does not establish that low storage is the cause of every stuck app download. If the app installed but will not open
That is a different problem from a download stuck at “Installing…”. Follow Apple’s troubleshooting for an app that stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or will not open. If the issue continues, Apple advises contacting the app developer. Apple’s app troubleshooting steps.
Do not delete the app as an early fix
Deleting and downloading an app again can remove data stored only inside that app. Before deleting it, check whether its data is synced or backed up and whether you can restore it. Apple warns that deleting an app may result in losing data associated with it. Apple Support.

When to contact Apple Support
If the download remains blocked after you have tried prioritizing it, restarting, checking Apple service and network access, resolving any account prompt, and reviewing installation restrictions, contact Apple Support. If the app has installed but continues to malfunction, contact its developer after trying Apple’s app troubleshooting steps.
