If you already rely on Apple devices and services, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the more natural fit; if you want Android flexibility, an included S Pen, or Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display, lean toward the Galaxy S26 Ultra. These are large-screen flagships released months apart, not identical phones—and the better buy depends on your platform, priorities, country, and storage needs.

Start with the platform you want to use

For most buyers, the choice between iPhone and Samsung is first a choice between iOS and Android, not a contest between specification sheets. An iPhone may suit you better if your other devices and services are already in Apple’s ecosystem and you want to stay with iOS. The Galaxy may suit you better if you prefer Android customization, split-screen multitasking, or a stylus built into the phone.

Neither preference makes one phone universally better. Switching platforms can also mean adjusting to different apps, settings, and ways of working, so consider the everyday experience you want rather than assuming a hardware advantage will outweigh it.

How the two flagships compare

The figures below reflect current comparison and product-guide reporting available on October 7, 2026. The iPhone 18 Pro Max specifications listed here are secondary-source figures; confirm them against Apple’s product specifications for your region before buying. Samsung’s specifications are from its product guide. Prices are US figures reported by comparison sources, not a promise of current checkout prices.

Display: similar size and refresh rate, different strengths

Both phones are reported to have 6.9-inch OLED screens with refresh rates reaching 120Hz. Samsung’s listed resolution is higher, while TechRadar’s comparison reports a higher peak-brightness figure for the iPhone. Those numbers do not by themselves establish which display will look better to you in daily use; brightness, content, settings, and viewing conditions matter.

The Galaxy’s most distinctive display feature is Privacy Display, built into the S26 Ultra. Samsung describes it as reducing visibility from off angles. That may be useful when you read messages or work with sensitive information in public, but it is a feature preference, not a general measure of screen quality.

Cameras: choose by focal length and workflow, not megapixels

The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s listed rear setup gives you two telephoto options, at 3× and 5×, alongside its main and ultrawide cameras. That range is a practical reason to consider it if you often photograph distant subjects and want more than one dedicated telephoto perspective.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is reported to have three rear cameras and a variable-aperture feature. That may matter to you if the specific camera controls or video workflow suit how you shoot. The available comparison information does not establish a universal image-quality winner, so do not treat the Galaxy’s higher megapixel counts as proof that it takes better pictures. Consider the subjects you photograph, the zoom range you use, portraits, video needs, and the rendering style you prefer.

Battery figures are estimates, not promises

TechRadar’s comparison estimates roughly 17 hours of continuous use for the iPhone 18 Pro Max and 16 hours for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. These are comparison-source estimates, not guaranteed runtimes: brightness, network conditions, apps, settings, and the exact model configuration can change real-world battery life. Samsung’s product guide separately reports a battery-test result under a 16:10 format; it should not be compared directly with a result from a different test method.

What the S Pen and software mean for daily use

The Galaxy S26 Ultra has a built-in S Pen, which gives you a ready-to-hand stylus for writing, marking up documents, or other pen-based tasks. If you know you will use those capabilities, that is a concrete reason to favor Samsung; if you do not need a stylus, its presence may not affect your decision.

Samsung’s current guide lists Android 16 with One UI 8.5 and seven years of upgrades. Treat the duration and wording as reported software-support information, not a warranty term: check Samsung’s current regional policy for the exact model. The available material does not establish a complete, primary-source side-by-side support policy for both phones.

Price and storage: compare the configuration you will actually buy

In the United States, the reported starting prices are both $1,299 for 256GB. TechRadar lists additional iPhone 18 Pro Max prices through 2TB, while Samsung’s product guide lists Galaxy S26 Ultra storage through 1TB. The larger iPhone tiers cost more in the reported list, but that does not settle which phone is better value for you: compare the storage tier you need and the price actually offered in your market.

Prices, availability, carrier offers, trade-ins, taxes, and local warranty terms can vary by country and change over time. Check current local pricing and the precise regional model before ordering; a US list-price comparison is not a reliable guide to another market’s total cost.

Which one should you buy?

  • Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you want to remain on iOS, already use Apple devices or services, or prefer its reported camera features and storage choices. Confirm the specifications and charging details for the regional model you plan to buy.
  • Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra if you want Android customization, split-screen multitasking, an integrated S Pen, Samsung’s Privacy Display, or the listed two-telephoto camera system.
  • Pause before deciding on value if your choice depends on a particular storage tier, carrier deal, trade-in, or warranty. Compare current offers in your country for the same capacity and regional version.

There is no evidence here for a direct performance verdict between the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Galaxy S26 Ultra. TechRadar’s Future Labs Geekbench 6.5 results compare the Galaxy S26 Ultra with the previous-generation iPhone 17 Pro Max: 3,766 versus 3,871 in single-core scores, and 11,537 versus 9,829 in multi-core scores. Those results are not a benchmark comparison with the iPhone 18 Pro Max and should not be used to declare a winner between these two current models.
