To choose which settings appear in the iPhone 18 Pro Camera Control overlay, go to Settings > Camera > Camera Control > Customize. You can also change their order there. Apple confirms that reordering is supported, but its instructions do not specify a particular gesture; follow the controls shown on the Customize screen.
Choose and reorder Camera Control settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Camera, then Camera Control.
- Tap Customize.
- Choose which settings are available in the overlay and change their order using the on-screen controls.
Apple’s guide confirms that you can select available settings and change their order, but does not describe a specific gesture for reordering. Don’t assume that dragging or another gesture is required unless the Customize screen indicates it.
Open and use the overlay
- Click Camera Control to open the Camera app.
- Lightly press Camera Control twice to open the overlay for the current camera mode.
- Slide a finger on Camera Control to move through the settings.
- Lightly press to select a setting, then slide to adjust it.
The selected setting is saved and appears the next time you lightly press Camera Control. The available controls vary by camera mode, so you may not see every setting in every mode.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat each overlay setting does
- Exposure: Brightens or darkens the scene.
- Depth: Increases or decreases the background depth-of-field effect. Selecting Depth turns on Portrait mode if it is not already selected.
- Zoom: Zooms in or out.
- Cameras: Switches between cameras, including the front-facing camera.
- Styles: Changes the Photographic Style.
- Tone: Lightens or deepens the mood by increasing or decreasing tone.
Camera Control overlay versus other camera tools
The Camera Control overlay is a hardware control workflow. Apple also documents in-app camera tools, including manual aperture, shutter speed, white balance and histogram for iPhone 18 Pro models. Those tools are accessed through the Camera Controls button or can be added above the camera frame; they are separate from customizing the Camera Control overlay. Don’t expect them to appear as overlay settings unless your device’s interface shows them there.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Likewise, tools and settings displayed above the camera frame in the Camera app are not the same thing as the hardware overlay. The overlay settings Apple lists are Exposure, Depth, Zoom, Cameras, Styles and Tone, with availability dependent on camera mode.
