The iPhone 17 is the more compact choice for people who prefer iOS and Apple’s ecosystem; the Motorola Edge 60 Pro offers a larger curved screen, a 6,000mAh battery and faster stated charging. There is no verified, like-for-like current consumer price gap: Apple announced the iPhone 17 in the UK from £799 in 2025, while the available UK Motorola figure is a historical business-list price for a 512GB model.

What is the price difference?
Apple’s UK announcement set the iPhone 17’s 2025 launch starting price at £799, with 256GB and 512GB configurations. That is a launch price, not a confirmed current offer.

A Vodafone UK Business price list gives £407 as the standard list price and £437 as the hardware-only price for an Edge 60 Pro 512GB. The same listing marks the phone end-of-life in October 2025. Those are historical business-list figures, not a current consumer offer, so subtracting either from Apple’s launch price would not produce a fair current price comparison. For a useful comparison, check retailers in your country for the same storage capacity and sales terms, and compare handset-only prices with handset-only prices. Availability and prices vary by market; a regional Motorola listing or business price cannot establish what a consumer should pay elsewhere.
Which display is better for your use?
Choose the iPhone for a smaller, flat-front screen
The iPhone 17 has a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with adaptive ProMotion refresh up to 120Hz. Apple claims peak outdoor brightness of up to 3,000 nits. Its smaller size may suit people who prefer a more compact phone, while the flat-front design avoids the curved screen edges of the Motorola.
Choose the Motorola for more screen area
Motorola’s APAC specification lists a 6.7-inch, 2712 × 1220 quad-curved pOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a claimed peak brightness of 4,500 nits. The larger screen is the more obvious fit for video and other content where display area matters. The two peak-brightness figures come from manufacturer specifications and may use different measurement conditions, so they should not be treated as a direct brightness test.

iPhone 17: two 48MP rear cameras and an 18MP front camera
Apple lists a 48MP Fusion Main camera with optical-quality 2x telephoto and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide that supports macro photography. The front camera is 18MP and includes Center Stage. This setup gives the iPhone a clearly specified ultra-wide and macro option alongside its main camera.
Edge 60 Pro: three rear camera roles
Motorola’s regional specifications list a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide/macro camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with optical image stabilization. That provides a dedicated telephoto camera in the listed hardware, but exact specifications can vary by market.
Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos. No hands-on camera comparison or independent image-quality testing is available here, so choose based on the camera features you value rather than assuming that a higher number means a better result.
Battery life and charging: capacity versus stated endurance
Motorola lists a 6,000mAh battery and support for 90W TurboPower wired charging and 15W wireless charging on its APAC specification page. Apple does not provide a directly comparable battery capacity in the cited announcement; instead, it claims up to 30 hours of video playback and says the iPhone 17 can reach 50% charge in 20 minutes when paired with an optional high-wattage USB-C adapter.
These figures describe different things: a stated battery capacity and charging rates on one side, and a manufacturer’s playback and charging claims on the other. They are not results from a shared endurance test, so they do not establish which phone lasts longer in everyday use. The Apple charging claim also depends on an optional adapter.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Software, updates and ecosystem
Apple says the iPhone 17 runs iOS 26. Motorola’s support pages identify Android, but the version listed depends on the regional page: its EMEA page lists Android 15, while its APAC page lists Android 16. That difference does not establish the installed software or update status of every handset. Confirm the exact local model, installed version and available updates with the seller or Motorola support before buying.
The practical choice is also about ecosystem. iOS may be a better fit if you already rely on Apple devices and services; Android may suit you better if you prefer its interface and flexibility. Consider which apps, accessories and account data you depend on, and check how you will move them before switching platforms.
Storage, durability and network details to check
Match storage before comparing offers
Apple’s UK launch configurations are 256GB and 512GB. The cited Vodafone business listing is for a 512GB Edge 60 Pro. Compare the same storage tier wherever possible; a price for a different capacity is not a like-for-like comparison.
Understand the protection claims
Apple cites Ceramic Shield 2 and claims 3× better scratch resistance than the previous generation. Motorola’s EMEA specification lists IP68/IP69 protection and MIL-STD-810H certification. These are manufacturer specifications and claims, not a promise that a phone cannot be scratched, damaged by a drop or affected by water. A certification or ingress rating does not make damage impossible.
Verify the regional handset
Motorola warns that some specifications vary by market. Before purchase, confirm the local model’s network bands and SIM configuration against your carrier’s requirements. Do not assume that a specification or feature on an APAC or EMEA page applies to every regional version.
Quick Recap
Which phone should you choose?
- Choose iPhone 17 if you want iOS, a 6.3-inch display, Apple’s stated camera features and an established Apple-device ecosystem.
- Choose Motorola Edge 60 Pro if you prefer Android, want a larger 6.7-inch curved screen, value its listed 6,000mAh battery and fast charging, or want the listed dedicated telephoto camera.
- Decide on price only after checking current local offers for the same storage capacity and purchase terms. The available UK figures do not support a current consumer price-gap claim.
